Schon mehrmals nicht die vegane Option bekommen - Edit
Ich war schon sehr oft bei der Waffel essen. Leider hat der Service mit den Jahren stark nachgelassen. Die letzten beiden Male, wo ich dort war, habe ich ausdrücklich den veganen Kumpir bestellt. Beide Male habe ich die nicht-vegane Version bekommen mit echter Sour cream und richtigem Käse. Als ich darauf hingewiesen habe, wurde mir dann eine richtige vegane Version gebracht, mit der Aussage, dass das davor schon vegan gewesen wäre, aber hier noch mal ein neuer Kumpir wäre (der dann tatsächlich vegan war). Die normale Sour Cream schmeckt total anders und auch der vegane Käse ist deutlich vom normalen zu unterscheiden (der normale zieht Fäden, der vegane ist so typischer bröckeliger veganer Käse). Auch früher hatte ich schon das ein oder andere Mal einen „veganen“ Kumpir, wo echter Käse drin gelandet ist. Machen die sich einen Spaß daraus? Da es jetzt schon häufiger vorgekommen ist, werde ich leider nicht mehr her kommen.

Hier gibt es sehr leckeres afghanisches Essen mit einer großen Auswahl an veganen Gerichten. Meine Lieblingsgerichte sind Sambosa (als Vorspeise), Ashak mit veganem Jogurt und Bolani. Die hausgemachte Safran-Limonade ist auch zu empfehlen. Wer authentisches afghanisches Essen erleben möchte, sollte definitiv hierhin gehen.

Einen Besuch wert - Edit
Direkt auf den Weg zwischen Neubrunnenplatz und Römerpassage. Lokation ist schön, im Sommer kann man auf der Straße sitzen und dem Treiben zuschauen. Es gibt mehrere Speisen mit veganer Auswahl. Die Portionen sind gut und das Essen generell gut gewürzt.

Wilkou had commented, 3 years ago, that one could make dishes here vegan by skipping the cream and cheese. They now offer vegan versions of both. I misunderstood the pricing of additions to a potato bowl I created, thinking each topping was additional cost. My very delicious bowl - potato with carrots, lentils, chickpeas, jalapeños- came in under US$10. I was stunned and tipped what was probably an obscene amount, still thinking the total cost a raging bargain.

I'm back a fourth time. This is still great food and a fantastic bargain. Good service. Menu remains German-only, which is a small challenge, particularly with items labeled "Special of the Week", buy it is worth the effort. I had some luck communicating in my horrible Arabic, but that was just one server.

Es gibt Reis, Kumpir, Eintopf mit verschiedenen Beilagen, Salate und viele verschiedene Getränke, fast alles ist hausgemacht, vieles vegan, die Preise sind moderat, das Essen war lecker, frisch und gut gewürzt. Die Bedienung sehr freundlich und das Lokal ist rollstuhlgerecht (inkl. Toilette). Es gibt nichts auszusetzen.

Wenige, aber leckere Gerichte! - Edit
Es gibt ein paar wenige (auf Wunsch) vegane Gerichte, die aber alle samt nicht nur lecker, sondern auch gut sättigend sind. Produktpalette umfasst viel omnivores, die veganen Möglichkeiten sind aber recht empfehlenswert. Hab bisher nur gute Erfahrungen mit freundlichem Service gemacht.

The food is delicious and filling and can easily be made vegan by skipping sour cream and cheese. Staff know what vegan means and will help you. They now even have vegan waffles which are a treat and vegan lassi which is nice as well!

Good Selection for Vegans - Edit
I went to "Die Waffel" at Lotharstraße. The service is quick. On the menu there's shown which dishes contain milk or gluten. The staff know about veganism. Even so, some yoghurt sauce may be added onto your food for decoration reasons. So when you order, tell them that you want your dish completely vegan. The Delhi Nan that I had tasted good.

Great, cheap option in Altstadt! - Edit
There is a great selection of good and affordable vegan food in Mainz-Neustadt, but much less so in Altstadt. Die Waffel is one of those few options: You get a filling rice dish or Kumpir (like a jacket potato) for 6-7 EUR. Most of the dishes are vegan and the owners know about veganism and will help you with your selection. They also have a weekly changing dish which is nice for variety.
