Fully vegan place right at the riverfront with outdoor and indoor seating. The restaurant is part of Hotel Nicolay, which is Germany's oldest and biggest vegan hotel/restaurant-complex. There are three clearly distinguishable vegan places in this concept including the hotel itself, the restaurant called Die Weinstube and this restaurant. This one offers rustic, hearty dishes, crossing over traditional and fast food. Open Wed-Sat 12:30-14:30, Wed-Sun 18:30-21:00. Closed Mon-Tue.

It's nice that all of the options are vegan. The staff was also very friendly. The food is nice enough, not amazing but then you probably should go to the Weinstube restaurant. I had the no chicken burger which could also be gluten free. There are also alot of icecream options. The tempura shiitake were very tasty, and grown by themselves.

Na alle positieve reviews erg verheugd op vanavond. Helaas een beetje teleurgesteld. We aten bij die Sonnenuhr, werden binnen geplaatst bij hotelgasten die voor half board kwamen. We bestelden een kleine simpele salade vooraf, met 1 portie brood & olie, en beiden een burgen als hoofdgerecht, met 1x aardappel wedges om te delen. We hebben een uur (!) moeten wachten op de kleine salade met brood, de andere hotelgasten waren al weg of zaten ondertussen aan hun dessert. Vervolgens kwam de salade tegelijkertijd met de burger, waardoor we ons gehaast voelden de salade snel op te eten omdat anders de burger koud zou worden. Het brood werd vergeten en nadien gebracht: 4 euro voor 3 plakjes wit stokbrood!! Zie foto. Daarnaast op beide borden de aardappel wedges, die we ook beiden hebben moeten betalen. In het uur wachten is er niet 1 keer iemand komen vragen of we nog wat te drinken wilden, terwijl natuurlijk onze glazen al lang weer leeg waren. We hebben dan ook besloten geen toetje meer te nemen en zijn wat teleurgesteld weggegaan. Het eten is 100% vegan, dat is top, maar vrij simpel. Verwacht geen culinaire hoogstandjes. Ook vrij vettig.

Die Auswahl klingt super, aber die Qualität ist überschaubar. Ich fand den Posttopf für 19€ überteuert (einfache Bratkartoffeln, Ferigsauce, Tiefkühlgemüse etwas lieblos angerichtet). Auch das Schnitzel mit Pommes und Pilzen war nicht billig und dafür nicht überragend.

Loved this cafe, lots of choices- we went twice while staying at the hotel, and our favourite dishes were the three steaks (like a roast dinner with seitan, tofu and "chicken" with potatoes, gravy and veg), and the flammenkuche (our third and best of the holiday, after trying two in Bernkastel!) Lots of things like burgers and schnitzels and ice cream. Lovely staff, amazing terrace if it's sunny with great views (indoor room nice too). You can ask for the mind-blowing seperate ice cream menu from Nicolay's Mosel Terrasse (see seperate review) - we were confused at first by the fact there are 3 or 4 restaurants here at the hotel (!) but they're very flexible and friendly and you can combine things.

Das Restaurant ist beim veganen Hotel Nicolay bzw gehört dazu und das merkt man auch, denn das Essen und der Service sind Mega. 😍 Das vegane Schnitzel ist das BESTE, was ich je hatte. Freu mich schon die anderen Gerichte zu probieren. Kuchen und Eis kann ich hier auch empfehlen.

Read moreThe menu is pretty basic, with dishes like schnitzel (with a variety of sauces), burger, flammkuchen or a salad.
We had a flammkuchen (9,9€) schnitzel with pepper sauce and the other time with mushroom sauce (each 19€) and a posttopf (oven dish?) with 3 kinds of seitan (17,50€).
Bit heavy food, storebought fries (I think).
Service was slow. It is clear that they are understaffed (and there's also a note on the table apologising for it). But still, having to wait for nearly an hour for a simple schnitzel and flammkuchen is long (certainly after a long day of travel) .... And it certainly didnt come with a smile...
We also wanted to try dinner at Die Weinstube on another night (just the room next to this one, but more restaurant feel with table cloths etc), but that was fully booked every night with hotel guests who have half board. You can also have the 3course menu of the Weinstube in the Sonnenuhr room, but we declined.
Everything is of course vegan, and that is a unicum in the whole wide area. So **** for that.
Accessibility: entrance to hotel/restaurant with stairs. I think one could enter at side entrance and then take elevator. Dont know if there's an accessible toilet.

Die Sonnenuhr vs. Die Weinstube... - Edit
Wenn es zügig gehen muss oder Herzhaftes bevorzugt wird, nehmt die Karte der Sonnenuhr mit leckeren, teils rustikalen, aber immer pfiffigen Sattmachern, Feines und Edles gibt es dann in den Überraschungsmenüs oder der legendären Pilzplatte (eigener Anbau!) in der Weinstube.

Zur Klärung:
Es gibt an dieser Adresse zwei Restaurants in Europas wohl größten, komplett veganen Hotel. Daher gibt es auch drei Einträge, also nicht wundern, sondern bitte die jeweilige Location bewerten.
Auf der Sonnenterrasse kann man von beiden Karten wählen, in den jeweiligen Restaurants nur von der spezifischen Karte. Im Sommer könnt ihr also aus beiden Karten wählen, in der Drinnen-Saison müsstet ihr euch für ein Restaurant entscheiden.
