Chef Zineb Hattab (Zizi) offers a modern take on the Al-andalus culinary tradition with dishes that are ideal for sharing. The most popular dining choice at DAR is the “DAR Sharing Journey,” which allows guests to relax and let the kitchen surprise them with a curated selection of sweet and savoury. Read moreKFM - Kentucky fried mushrooms. This dish was listed as a small bite, but there were loads. Lots of coating to batter, I thought the mushrooms were a bit too sparse amongst the batter but my partner likes them as they were. There was a bit of sweetness and spiciness from the sauce, they were very tasty and juicy without being too greasy.
Tomato salad: very fresh and light, packed with flavour. The crisp bits you had to eat quickly to avoid getting soggy. It was very enjoyable.
Charred cabbage: I got a little taken in with this being billed as their legendary charred cabbage. It was fine but not mind blowing. The flavours were good with the creamy dressing and spiciness from the harissa. The smokiness and bitterness from the charring was good too. I don't want to spend my time complaining about Swiss prices being high but this felt like a lot of money for a bit of cabbage.
Moroccan sundae: this was delicious. It was rose water ice cream with lemon cookie dough and a few toppings. The rose water flavour was perfect. The ice cream on top was not too sweet and had a good texture. The cherries, nuts and cookie dough were all good complements and it all worked very well together.
Bazbousa pastry, pistachio cremeaux and strawberries: the base was more cake than pastry, and a bit too dry. The cremeaux was the main draw and the texture was great, but it could have been sweeter. The strawberries were really flavoursome and refreshing.
Moroccan mint tea flan, chocolate mousse, ginger syrup and berries: There was good flavour in the base, it was like a delicious custard - I was expecting it to be a bit more set though. The chocolate mousse was rich and had a good texture. The crunchy bits on top were great for texture too. I didn't really pick much mint flavour and there was a bit of warmth from the ginger syrup.
We had some tasty chai sodas to drink too, they were nicely spiced.
We wanted to sit indoors to avoid smokers but were not allowed and seated away from the smoking area. Somebody did start smoking right behind us though and they were moved away but not immediately by the first staff member who was dealing with them. Service was very slow, maybe that's down to the nature of them doing lots of tasting menus. We had a two hour seating and we definitely didn't need that long but the staff did. Wir hatten einmal die Journey, bei dem 10-15 kleine Gänge serviert werden. Hammer Auswahl, alles war superschön hergerichtet und wurde gekonnt erklärt und serviert. Absolutely amazing brunch, we tried a nice variety of dishes and each one was delicious! It's very busy around lunch time so make sure to have a reservation. Lovely atmosphere, kind and helpful staff. The pancakes were so wonderfully fluffy!

A swiss summer dinner sitting in the breeze by the garage door entry to Dar. Fully vegan including wines and a tasting for all at the table. Most flavorful food we have had as vegans. Every mouth was an adventure into the Moroccan Spanish imagination of the chief. Bliss.

I had long meant to eat at the restaurant, but whenever I tried to get a reservation, it was already booked out. Finally, I got there with a friend and was very content with both food and service. We had the surprise menu. Maybe the Mac and cheese had a bit too much smoke taste, but everything else was very tasteful.

While a bit pricy, this place is absolutely excellent. We could choose between a "surprise menu" of the day or a'la carte, and chose the former for nor less than 11 different dishes with very inventive an delicious vegan food. The fusion of fresh Swiss produce, Moroccan/Spanish fusion and pure creativity makes for a great meal. Would absolutely recommend, if you can afford it.

Best brunch ever - near perfection - Edit
DAR is by far our favorite place for a weekend brunch, not just in Zurich. The dishes are top notch, the ambiance very welcoming & relaxed, the staff friendly and the price/quality is unbeaten. We have been there a dozen times now and have always been highly satisfied. During spring/summer, DAR has a cozy terrace/backyard as well as a few tables in front of the restaurant on the sidewalk. There is also a beautiful separate cocktail bar with vegan cocktails and bar food.
Read moreThe absolute highlight however is still the food. Especially the dishes served for brunch are an absolute delight. Our favorite ones - you really shouldn’t miss them - are the “Mushroom BBQ sandwich, caramelized onions and ranch”, the “Merguez Fez Medina Sandwich” and the “KFM with hot sauce” (sticky and spicy fried oyster mushrooms, delicious!). DAR offers several seasonal salads which change regularly. For brunch there are around ten savory dishes and only three sweet ones. The honeycomb shaped pancakes are ok and it’s worth asking what the pastry of the day is, but the savory dishes clearly steal the show. The dishes are very suitable for sharing. We recommend 2-3 dishes per person.
