Knus en lekker eten! - Edit
Fijn plekje in Valkenburg. Op het terras leuk uitzicht op de wielrenners die voorbij rijden. Eten was helemaal top! Grote porties. Het 12-uurtje was zelfs bijna teveel voor mijn vriend. Jammer genoeg geen ruimte meer over voor de vegan vlaai. We komen zeker terug! 🫶🏻

A Home Away from Home - Edit
Wonderful atmosphere at base of the Cauberg. Great viewing from balcony for Amstel Gold. Staff are up for a chat and take pride in their work. Food is delicious and homely. No English menu, but Google Translate works well and the staff are happy to assist. Will come again next time we are in town.

Heerlijke avond bij een warm en gastvrij veganistisch restaurant - Edit
Wat een fijne verrassing was dit restaurant! Vanaf het moment dat we binnenstapten voelden we ons welkom. De sfeer is speels, luchtig en ontspannen – je merkt meteen dat hier met liefde wordt gewerkt.
Read moreDe eigenaren zijn ontzettend vriendelijk en betrokken, en het viel direct op hoe persoonlijk alles wordt aangepakt. De cheffin kwam zelf even langs aan tafel om te vragen hoe het smaakte en serveerde zelfs een paar van de gerechten eigenhandig. Dat gaf echt een extra speciaal gevoel.
Het eten zelf? Fantastisch. Alles is huisgemaakt, zelfs het brood dat bij de voorgerechten werd geserveerd. Vers, vol smaak en mooi gepresenteerd. De porties waren precies goed en de prijs-kwaliteitverhouding is dik in orde: voor 32,50 krijg je een volwaardig driegangenmenu dat met zorg en creativiteit is samengesteld.
Bij het desert waren 2 van de groep jaloers op een de cheesecake van een ander en de eigenaar heeft ons bij de koffie ieders nog een stukje op de zaak gegeven. Wij blij en verzadigd na drie en een half uur daar vertoeft te hebben. Dat zegt denk ik ook wel iets over de sfeer die bij het restaurant hing!
Conclusie;
Een absolute aanrader, ook als je niet per se veganistisch eet. Je merkt gewoon aan alles dat hier passie en vakmanschap samenkomen. Wij komen zeker terug
Pros: Inrichting van het terras en restaurant , Het contact met beide eigenaren , De flexibiliteit in de combinaties van gerechten
Cons: De menukaart vond ik persoonlijk niet, zo overzichtelijk.

Drove all the way to Valkenburg, and had checked Chalaza's hours on Happy Cow and their website. There was no mention of them closing early. When we arrived, a scribbled note in ballpoint pen saying they have decided to close early, was attached to a menu outside, see photo.

We saw the owners sitting at a table, so we asked politely if it was possible for her to use the toilet, as she is on water tablets for her heart failure, and Sander angrily came to the door and bellowed, "We are closed!" When we politely explained that their website and Happy Cow said they were open, Sander snarled that we
"should have made a reservation and then we would known this!" He then slammed the door shut at full force. How terribly rude and unsympathetic. Out of interest, I went to make a reservation online and there was no notice saying they were closed. See screenshot. Go elsewhere!

We are very sorry you caught us at a very bad moment that night. One of our guests accidentally tore down one of our toilets during that day and our little establishment suffered heavily water damage because of this. Therefor A quick stop for your disabled family member using our toilet was practically impossible at that moment. you are right, We didn't think about updating happy cow nor our website to adjust our opening hours because we simply were not prepared for such an event... As you saw us sitting inside, we were actually debating how to fix things rapidly so we could open up again soon with the tools we had bending over backwards. While your group was jelling outside, sadly our own Emotions took over. We herewith apologize for being rude, without having the patience to give you the extra explanation what was actually happening at the moment.

I came here with 3 friends hoping to get some good vegan food for dinner. We all ordered separate dishes to try different options. We ordered the mushroom stroganoff with rice, another ordered it with mei, and one ordered the jackfruit Rendang, and the other a mango curry.
Read moreFirst off this restaurant was not busy, only 4 other people were inside besides us. Food took over ONE HOUR to arrive! No explanation. Then once the food arrived, some of my friend's food was not hot enough, mine lacked flavor and had a strange taste that I couldn't eat it. I ended up leaving the plate full of food. Portions are small. Literally three spoons of rice was on the plate with the mushroom stroganoff. The chef came over to greet us and ask how are food was and we told her that we didn't like it and that it lacked flavor and was cold. She apologized and asked if we wanted dessert. We politely declined. We won't be coming back which is a pity because vegan options are limited in this area.
Lastly, this place lacks character. Decoration is also a bit tacky. It's not completely vegan, though they don't claim to be fully vegan, but if 99% of your menu is vegan, why put on the menu: "for the non-vegan guests, you can ask for mozzarella cheese". Why? That makes no sense. Who's running this place?

The description on HappyCow doesn’t really match the place: I’m 100 % vegan for the animals, and I felt right at home here. All the meals are plant based and vegan, including vegan vlaai, which was amazing, and the food was spectacular. They do find themselves in an area where vegans are almost non-existent, so they offer two side dishes that do have meat, in an attempt to lure in some of the local and touristic crowd. All in all, definitely worth a visit if you’re vegan and in the area, don’t let the description here fool you!

Very cozy and delicious food! - Edit
We visisted a month ago and were warmly welcomed by the owners. We went for some appetizers; freshly baked bread with different kinds of spreads. They were all really delicous! We also couldn't resist to try their homemade cherry pie and that one also did not disappoint. Very kind people and very cosy place. Had a nice chat with the lady and she even gave us some chocolates to take with us :)
