Yeah, this place is awesome

Serve yourself incredible all vegan cafe ran by a very sweet lady. I moved here two weeks ago already have been here 4 times. Only downside is that I often eat too much! The crispy soy is … too delicious !!

Pros: cozy atmosphere, so many different vegan meat options!!

Serve yourself

In October 2025, the restaurant is offering a deal whereby you can fill a plate with your choice of the dishes on display, including rice, noodles and various curries, plus some fried items. The price is $17, and they ask that you go round once only, and don't waste food. I like this arrangement: I had a varied and interesting lunch and will return soon.

Good pastry

A few of the pastries in the window cabinet are marked with “vegan” signs, so I'm confused as to whether this place is fully vegan. There were warm dishes waiting (Asian cuisine), but I bought only a takeaway apple strudel. It was excellent! Nice, flaky pastry and stuffed with apples.

A favourite go-to place! Addicted to the fried soy!

A favourite place for a cheap and tasty lunch or dinner! Have been going for years! I crave the fried soy so much!

Thai-riffic!

Used to frequent this shop when it was further up King St and in a larger spot. Food quality seem to dip ever so slightly when the moved here. Sadly, I think they changed the salt and pepper soy slices (which are the bomb). Great for a cheap, quick meal. Some dishes are oily- but in a good way.

Pros: cheap, the buffet allows you to try up to three dishes, great flavor

Cons: crispy soy not as good as it used to be

Amazing jay food!

This place brought me straight back to Thailand's jay restaurants, especially seeing the '17' logo. Affordable, tasty and quick as it's already made.
I had rice with veggie rib n lemon grass, green curry with tofu and veggie duck pieces. My partner had rice with tempeh n basil, massaman curry and black bean tofu. All amazing for $15 each for rice with 3 toppings :)

Authentic Thai Made Vegan

Absolutely a diamond in the rough. Has a huge selection of authentic Thai food which was made fresh and absolutely delicious. We had the eggplant curry and pad kee mao which were both amazing. They also have a small freezer where you can purchase lamyong products which is excellent. Friendly staff

Pros: Authentic, Tasty, Friendly

Ready made food

Food was really good and reminded me of authentic street food stalls in Thailand where you just pick what you want of the ready made food
Three options for 16$ big plate no rice
14$ for a small plate no rice
Restaurant itself is very simple and doesn’t seem overly clean
But sanitizing provided
Lots of food options available at two pm
Wanted to go some other place but already sold out. Four stars cause of the ambiance.
Good back up for a quick, homemade tasting dish without fuss or fusion

Yummy lunch

We walked here from Newtown station, looking for something quick for lunch.
The restaurant has a Bain Marie style for serving @lunchtime, with quite a few various selections to choose from.
We had Hoiken noodles - I had roasted veggie duck/my partner had the veggie ribs with lemongrass.
We were served our meals by a friendly lady, who filled our plates up with delicious food.
We both really enjoyed them, as we sat at the table next to the front window, watching everyone passing by.
It’s not a five star restaurant however it’s really nice food, with welcoming staff, and felt nice being there.

Pros: Tasty, inexpensive & good sized portions, 100% Vegan & open all day , Friendly & lots of choices

Hits a very specific craving

If you are in Newtown for one meal, this is not what you want. You will get a room temperature serving of several contrasting flavours with mismatching cutlery.

I have visited this place several times at 10am while hungover and found god. It is so unashamedly what it is.

The crispy soy is probably the highlight for me.

Pros: Crispy soy, Cheap for the serving size, A lot of condiments

Massive serve of goodness

We tried a bunch of the options from the bain marie here and they were all delicious. I was really surprised at how big the serving size was, especially for the price! The people here were friendly and the vibe was good, relaxed and welcoming, very casual. Open between lunch and dinner hours as well, which was super convenient for us looking for a late lunch at around 3pm.

Deliciouse vegan Thai food

I really like this place because every dish I've tried so far has been delicious. Some dishes may be spicy.
The prices are also reasonable and the portions are quite large.
Maybe the service is not super professional, but the food makes up for it :P

Cheap Eats, lots of options

Don't come here expecting fine dining, but this is a perfect place if you are after cheap, quick food with lots of options. Great for takeaway or a quick feed. Dessert options as well, must try the Strudel's

Delicious eggplant tomato and mushroom dish

I've come here so many times now, but I always order the same thing, the eggplant tomato and mushroom dish. It's crispy, in a savoury, slightly tangy sauce.
Also tried the curry puff, and that was very good.
I should branch out to their other dishes, the made to order noodles dishes look good.

Pros: eggplant tomato mushroom dish, Quick service

Focus on the food, ignore the ambiance

Everything's vegan, according to the lady that took my order, so the listing probably needs an update. Great food, great price, super generous serving, a bit oily depending on what dish you choose. Definitely try the duck, a super smooth melt-in-your-mouth type of feeling, bursting with flavor. And the cherry strudels!!! Never had cherry strudels before, but probably better than most of the apple strudels I've had. They probably use sour cherry and vanilla bean cream as the filing, so not too sweet, not too sour, just right.

Pros: Great taste, good variety, Cheap, Great sweet options

Cons: Ambiance needs some work, Some dishes can be oily

Some average dishes, some delicious!

I ordered the 3 dishes with rice option for lunch and one for takeaway also. I also bought a box of the bbq steam buns.
I didn’t really enjoy the options I chose for the eat in lunch. I had the creamy tofu, pumpkin and eggplant/mushroom. I had to add chilli to make it less bland.

The take away however, was really good! I have massaman curry, vegan crispy duck and a different eggplant dish. The bbq bins were tasteless but a bit better when I warmed them.

The staff member wasn’t overly friendly or engaging. She didn’t smile or have much to say. The space itself was pretty nice.

I have to give it 3 stars for the overall experience, even thought the takeaway options were worth 4 stars. I’ll try a different place next time I’m in Newtown.

Pros: Some tasty dishes

Cons: Some average dishes, Not very friendly staff member. Just ok.

The choice is yours

It’s simple: you can pair rice/noodle with the option to choose 1/2/3 dishes. I went with 3 choices along with a Hufflepuff. Oh, curry puff. 14 1 AUD.

I went with noodles, gluten duck, eggplant tomato & mushroom, and red curry. The final product looks a bit messy, not exactly what I had imagined.

I like the texture of gluten duck. eggplant tomato & mushroom was a little cold and soggy along with curry. And curry don’t generally go well with noodles. So there you have it, I’m a bad example in answering multiple choices questions.

The curry puff tastes very nice, a little bit like samosa, but lighter, more airy, and more flaky.

It’s 14 bucks for a stuffing meal. Eating here is no brainer. To make a choice on the three dishes? Don’t be like me.
