Might be overrated - Edit
This restaurant might be overrated. I had the poutine which was good but not great, and it was lukewarm. The chorizo and mushroom flatbread was basically pizza, and fairly underwhelming. I’d go back for the flan though, that was tasty.

Top Notch Vegan Dining Experience - Edit
Unbelievable dining experience…the best of our road-trip. Red Carrot Dumpling, Yuca Gnocchi, Lions Mane, Shroom & Chorrizo Flatbread, Sundried Tomato Sashimi were great for the main meal. The Camote Cheesecake and the CoffeeBreak were excellent for dessert. Will definitely will return when back in Chicago!

Excellent upscale vegan food. - Edit
I love coming to this place to celebrate a special occasion. The food is always delicious, creative, and exciting. Service is great as well. We got 3 small dishes and 2 bigger dishes to split between 2 people and it was more than enough food to leave us very full. It’s definitely a little pricier, with smaller plates ranging from 10-20 dollars each and larger plates 20-30. With tax and tip, we ended up spending around $130. Definitely felt worth the cost given the quality of the dishes, service, and how delicious everything was.

Okay - Edit
The portions were particularly small, contributing to the stereotype that vegan food isn’t filling. The Brussels and kale Caesar was pretty good.

Unbelievable Flavor - Edit
I ate here solo as a walk-in and the food and drink did not disappoint. I had the hot and sloe — big fan of warm cocktails over here! The shaved brussels and kale caesar was outta this world! The sunflower risotto was so incredibly rich and flavorful. I was blown away.

Came by myself for HH which was a great deal and way to try a few things dining solo (it’s more of a shared plate’s experience ideally)

Contestant for #1 in Chicagoland. Maybe. - Edit
With Spring '22 there is a new Bloom in Chicagoland to talk about. A fresh contester for the Top Spot of veg*n restaurants in the area. While it lacks the view of Althea or the outdoors experience of Spirit Elephant, it does offer an interesting options for the plant-food lovers.
Read moreWe gave it a try 2 weekends in a row. Checked all the desserts and many of the Quick Bites and Big Boys offers.
Love the mix of influences - Mexico to Japan and all in between.
A reverence to the Her Majesy the Fermentation - still, it's not NOMA, but better than most. Talking of NOMA - we liked the most the focus and uniquness of the sauces and their innovative use. I need some inside secret info...
I would skip the Tamal Ranchero - simply not as exciting as the other options in the list.
Would have been nice to see some non-alcoholic fresh creations - hopefully they will show up with the summer fruits.
Ambiance is lively, a bit on the loud side. The tempo is kind of quick, matching the beat of the neighborhood maybe? Consider making a reservation - tried two separate ways online, both worked great.

Pros: sauces + innovation, location, grow some of the greens inside the place!
Cons: few overfried items, ambience: noise, table density, view, no al fresco, heavy on alcohol nor fresh juices

Just Do It! - Edit
I had the tasting menu with wine pairings and it was wonderful. My favorites included the sun-dried tomato sashimi, asada taco and yuca gnocchi (the celery root purée in this dish should be it’s own soup dish). You had to broaden your mind for some of the dishes, the almond truffle tart looks amazing but was one of my least desired tastes. I really want to try more dishes and will be going back soon. Oh …. Desserts …. The flan was light and tasty, the cheesecake had a bit of coconut flavor but creamy and delish.

Sometimes Tasty. Always Overpriced. - Edit
My partner and I really really wanted this place to be great. We’ve been twice now. The prices just don’t match the quality of the food or the decor/ambiance.

My best friend took me here while I was visiting Chicago. The staff were so friendly, warm, and welcoming. The food was amazing. Not your typical vegan restaurant - every dish was beautiful, fresh, good food. Lots of spice and flavors.

Great food and service! It was a little chilly sitting by the door, but everything was great… the food, the wine, and the service. We are excited to return and try more food on their menu.

So glad our friends introduced us to this plant-based gem. We shared everything: Cheese Board, Asada Taco, Radish Tart, Whole Shroom Chorizo Flat Bread, Risotto, Gnocchi. Everything was so flavorful.

Incredible, creative, upscale dining - Edit
SO DELICIOUS! Really wonderful to have an upscale and creative vegan place in the city. We had the aguacate (a favorite), Buffalo cauliflower, tamal coloradito (my favorite and sooo delicious), cashew di pepe, shroom&chorizo flatbread, and Chinese eggplant (also really loved this)— and they were all top-notch and things I would order again. We also got the beet dumplings which weren’t my favorite since they were a little sweet, but other folks really liked them. I went with my family who aren’t vegan or vegetarian and everyone was really impressed. LOVE this place. (It’s currently BYOB just FYI!)

Some dishes great, others alright - Edit
Tons of raw dishes and even some of the dishes not marked as raw were still pretty raw and cold. Cheese plate was alright, maybe one or two good cheeses on it. The radish tart was bizarre — not marked as raw but could have been. My friend loved the Baja taco. The chorizo flatbread was too spicy for me. The heirloom tomato flatbread was alright, but missing some flavor — not super impressed. The flan was really impressive.

Upscale and worth it- both food and service! - Edit
This place has a taste that is unique. Though the portions may be small, the flavor is vibrant. They have a variety of dishes and my group and I shared many different items. My favorites were particularly the Cauliflower appetizer (the best vegan style buffalo cauliflower I've had so far), the Eggplant main course, & the Avocado/Key Lime ice cream (phenomenal). All the food was yummy- like the Papaya salad and the Flan (made with coconut). The Flatbread was interesting, almost like a pizza. You can't go wrong with ordering probably any item on the menu- but I want to point out the good quality of the food and how they combine the ingredients. I could taste the difference in the type of food they were using. They cater to so many types of diets- gluten free, raw, almost nut free within the plant based menu.
Read moreWhat topped off our experience was the Incredible SERVICE. The entire team was awesome ESPECIALLY OUR SERVER ALEX T. He explained everything clearly, went out of his way (above & beyond) to make sure all of our group's needs were met, made sure we were taken care of throughout (very sweet & kind too), and even gave a birthday surprise. I hope management/corp at Bloom can recognize Alex T. for his hospitality & acknowledge his efforts in some way.
I also would like to recognize Manager Josh - who also would check in with customers throughout the restaurant and engage with everyone- I do not come across that often!
Receptionist Jordan (I believe) also was kind enough to call us back to let us know a reservation was available. Initially when we called to book they were full but once a cancellation had occurred she actually called us back to let us know a space was available.
I hope management at Bloom can recognize everyone for their great attitude and service. It makes customers want to return even more.
Overall, simply great place to check out. The chef's menu, the ambience, the service (it may have a bougie vibe, but not bougie service in our experience- really nice), and of course the food. Worth checking out.
I love supporting vegan places!
Pros: Unique food with great quality, Excellent Staff / Service, Nice Vibe
Cons: Portions could be bigger

Amazing upscale vegan food! - Edit
So happy to find vegan food that is more fruit and veggie forward. Most chicago vegan restaurants are comfort food with imitation meat and this place brings something more upscale and veggie oriented. We've already been here twice and all the menu items are great. The cheese board is amazing and my favorite dessert is the coffee break chocolate mousse. Highly highly recommend.

So good! Great to pick up if you want to eat something at home that feels like a real restaurant meal rather than takeout. Love the beyond burger and hand pulled noodles. And the cookies! Always excited about outstanding chocolate chip cookies.
