Quick bite - Edit
Great place for a quick bite. We had the bbq jackfruit Sammie with a side of ranch and a pepper mushroom pie. The Sammie was served toasted. Adding a salad would have rounded out the meal. We were told all the desserts are GF and I prefer gluten, so we opted not to try dessert.

Not the same anymore :( - Edit
I used to LOVE this place but since they relocated the food options were much more limited and unfortunately the lady working behind the counter was very rude. It felt like a big hassle to her to get my order and even when I asked for a napkin she’d response was quite rude I was quite taken aback. Such a shame and I hope the owners realize this so they can work a solution and not lose business.

Great cakes! - Edit
I was in Christchurch for a beer festival and needed vegan cake. Barefoot’s selection is great, and with decent coffee nearby, makes this part of town a perfect place to spend a Sunday morning.

Lots of options, order at counter in "food mall" set up. Good value. Nachos were a fave! Also enjoyed butter chicken pie, carrot cake and Earl Gray muffin (everything we tried).

Good choices, freshly made, nice staff. I had the jackfruit tacos, orizo and asparagus salad and my husband had a chicken curry pie. All were delicious.

Very disappointed - Edit
We went to Riverside especially to go here as it used to be amazing at Welles st. I had the Buddha bowl and was very disappointed as it was mainly rice, nothing like a usual Buddha bowl, and it was only luke warm. My partner had a cold pie and cold sausage roll. We won’t be eating here again unfortunately it was such a shame as we used to love it.

3 1/2 - Edit
They have moved to the Riverside market now. Great location. They have a cabinet with some options and also a menu. I got the smashroom melt and my partner had the jackfruit melt. I also had the iced rose matcha.
Read moreI expected to taste rose or strawberry in the matcha but I couldn’t. It was refreshing but I did want to have some rose.
The bread on the toasties was interesting. It wasn’t quite my thing but anything is better than white bread. The smashroom filling was nice without being incredible. I preferred my partners bbq jackfruit toastie and the bbq sauce that came with it.
The person working there was lovely.

Absolutely Sh!thouse - Edit
I was super hungry when we came here for lunch - having eaten nothing yet that day - a surefire context for the plainest most yucky meal tasting like a gift from the gods. And yet, the food at this place was utterly disgusting.
Read moreThe ‘Crunchy Thai Salad’, the ‘large’ container of which was only half-full (a blessing in this case), was nothing more than shredded cabbage without even a tang of dressing - the ‘dressing’ was maybe sweet soy sauce.
The ‘Pulled Jackfruit Tacos’ were so doused in sickly-sweet bbq sauce as to be virtually inedible, topped with a whack of tasteless yet fatty mashed avocado. The ‘pumpkin muffin’ was like an orange-died glob of plain dough.
My dining companion put it succinctly: ‘Well I’ve had worse’.

Good - Edit
Good food. Limited range. Vegan sausages in big breakfast were average. I would like avocado or some facon over beans in big breakfasts. Soy chai was nice. Service was good. One person working. No delay.

Painfully slow service, wish i didn’t have to give a vegan place such a low rating but i have to be honest. Coffees very average and muffin was just ok.

Unfortunately nothing special - Edit
I hate not giving 5*, but during our quest to try all four 100% vegan spots in Christchurch, this one was unfortunately by far the most mediocre experience, while at the same time being the priciest one. We had a flat white, which was not up to NZ standards, the ceremonial chocolate was watery and tasteless, same as the big brekky and the waffles were dry.
Read moreThis place has great potential and the location is super cool, but it has to step up its quality if it wants to stand a chance against the other three great all vegan spots in the city.
Nevertheless, I will give this place 5* on google maps, as I believe in supporting vegan places on platforms were non vegan people look for places to eat. On happy cow however I wanna give my fellow vegans a 100% honest review.
Pros: Cool location
Cons: Pricey, Mediocre food and drinks

I wasn’t super impressed, the woman was ho servers me seemed like I was irritating her by being there. Menu is small. The seating area was quite dirty and it took a surprising amount of time for my food to be delivered.

Not the best experience - Edit
Went down for brunch. They’d run out of scrambled tofu and porridge which ruled out about 50% of the menu. The chai was weak. Buckwheat waffles were tasty as was the protein smoothie. Prob wouldn’t go back.

Used to be my favourite - Edit
Used to be my favourite place. I didn't mind paying overs for a Buddha Bowl here because I knew it was high quality and would fill me up. That's no longer the case, though it's still expensive.

He is levitating with she - Edit
Set in The Welder, Christchurch’s well-being urban oasis, this cute vegan eatery provided a substantial breakfast before hitting Hagley Oval for the cricket. We had scrambled tofu on sourdough and a ‘Big Breakfast’ which consisted of a scrambled tofu and homemade beans both on sourdough with homemade sausages and salad. The house coffee is superb and the setting inside the Welder complex is perfect where you are surrounded by like minded enterprises and people. Everything is made In house and freshly prepared from organic ingredients so expect to pay a little more than the norm. Definitely worth it though.
