I got the congee, spicy tofu boa, and mushroom bao. Out of the three, I would probably only get the mushroom bao again. The congee was very bland. I had to add a bunch of soy sauce to it to make it taste okay and even then it was just okay.

I tried Bao Bao several years ago and had a bad experience. I looked at the menu again thinking it can't be as bad as I remember only to try it again and it was. Some dishes just bland, others not good even with adding an excessive amounts of condiments.

They offer four vegan bao--two sweet and two savory. The Lotus Bao and Red Bean Bao are both sweet, but the Lotus is sweeter. The Mushroom Bao was flavorful. I didn't try the Spicy Tofu Bao, but my partner said it was pretty bland. The Cold Noodles were simple, but I enjoyed the pan-seared tofu.

The restaurant is very small. There weren’t a TON of vegan options, but the ones I had were good! I got the tofu bao bun and the vegan Suan La Fen. It was delicious!

This place has great vegan options! A real treat since vegan bao buns are hard to find. Plus everything was reasonably priced. It was so good that I went multiple times while visiting Portland!

Bao Bao evolved from a food truck in downtown Portland to the current brick and mortar restaurant space a few years ago. Since then, their menu has expanded to include dumplings, various noodle dishes, congee, and more. I love visiting this place because the food is consistent, fresh, delicious, and fast. Clearly marked vegan options, and sensible portions. Lots of veggies. Delicious dessert bao (Lotus & Red Bean). Highly recommended!
