Vegan spam sushi

Ok, I am not a sushi expert. I can’t tell you exactly what we ordered, but I loved it. I somehow doubt spam is a traditional sushi ingredient but it’s sure tasty. The vegan cheesecake we had for dessert was pretty good too.

Pros: Good vegan sushi

Good place to stop by!

Cozy small place with various options! That said, if you are looking for an exceptional sushi experience you might be disappointed (if you have been to Japan or excellent Japanese restaurants before). Otherwise, it is really nice that they are serving fully plant based sushi!

Best sushi on the planet!

Every time we visit Vancouver we eat here. The service is exceptional and the sushi is to die for. Probably, my favourite spot on earth.

Amazing!

This restaurant is an hour away for me but I travel down because it's the best sushi! Obviously everything is vegan like the agedashi tofu (where dashi sauce typically has fish sauce in it at omni Japanese restaurants), so it's nice to be able to order everything without checking the chef first. The sushi is amazing and I can't wait to go back again.

Pros: Big menu, lots of choices!

Cons: Distance for me.

VEGAN SUSHI in Kerrisdale!!!

Wow, finally a 100% plant based place in Kerrisdale!

Lovely staff and delicious food, reasonably priced and beautifully served in a cosy setting.

Seeing this new gem in my neighbourhood made me SO HAPPY! I've only visited once so far (this afternoon!), and the Tofu Teriyaki Lunch Box I had was very tasty and fresh. I'll definitely be going back and adding more to my review!

Although there are many sushi places in Vancouver, including in Kerrisdale, I hardly ever get to eat any as most restaurants offer only "vegan options" and so, you either have to trust them that they do prepare the vegan dishes in a separate area or you have to ignore the chances of cross contamination... Besides, I genuinely hate the smell of fish and seafood, so I can't really enjoy even a fully vegan option if the whole restaurant smells badly... A fully plant based sushi place is a real treat!

I've been to Vegan Shoku many times since my original review, and I continue to be impressed! I've also taken a few non-vegan (as well as vegan) friends there, and they all like it a lot 😁. Thanks, Vegan Shoku! 🙏🏻

Best vegan sushi!

I visited Shoku from Australia in July 2023 and I can gladly say that I haven’t had better sushi anywhere else. I believe I had the “salmon”, “tuna” and California rolls. Service was fast and the flavours were incredible. The vegan meat/seafood was very realistic.

Pros: Lots of options and variety, Great flavours

Creative & Delicious Rolls

Sushi is my absolute favorite food, and as a vegan, when I can have creative rolls, I am beyond happy. While in Vancouver, I ordered Sushi Shoku through Uber Eats, and I am so happy I did. I tried their tofu bento and their salmon avocado oshi. The tofu itself in the bento was not my favorite, as it was very soft, but this was also likely worsened by the fact it was sitting in a takeout container for a while, so it may be better in person. The miso soup and tempura veggies were average, but it is always nice to know for a fact something is vegan.

However, the sushi was delicious. I have had a decent amount of vegan sushi, and the salmon and tuna (the tuna came with the bento box) are some of my all-time favorites. I am not quite sure how to describe the flavor, but I loved it. My whole (nonveg) family was impressed as well (translation: I was only able to eat about half of my order… lol).

I look forward to trying this place again and, hopefully, next time in person!

Good sushi, better service

The service was very good. The sushi was also good but the rice quality lacked a bit. Still giving them 5 for everything else.

Salmon on fire!!

Had a really good time here, will definitely come back!! Here are the things I've tried:

(1) Eggplant salmon - Super creamy and decadent. Great textures. Comes in plate of 5 pieces, so good for sharing. May be a bit heavy if you have more than 2 pieces.
(2) Vegan takoyaki - Taste is almost same as traditional Takoyaki and texture is a bit firmer but overall good regardless. Would get again!
(3) Unagi roll - Pretty good, could use bit more unagi sauce for my own preference. Prob won't get again cus it wasn't that special and I'd want to try other things.
(2) Salmon on Fire - This was definitely my favourite one! The main salmon topping piece is the same as that in the eggplant salmon, so I would avoid getting both. I prefer this roll much more since the rice balances the heavier flavours from the salmon.

Reservations available.

Pros: Big menu, so many options, Everything was really good, A good number of commute options (Bus 41, 16, etc)

Been in person and ordered take out from here and everything has always been so tasty. They have such a variety of rolls and loads of options you typically don't get with vegan sushi.

Great service and variety! Delicious!

Loved the service! I tried Eggplant Salmon, Spam sushi, vegetable gyoza. I don’t drink alcohol and they told me every drink is non-alcoholic. I had a delicious red wine with 0.0 alcohol content. I highly appreciate their guidance in ordering the food and drinks. Enjoyed everything! They gave me a discount coupon for my next visit. I’ll surely go back. 😄

Pros: Variety, Quality, Service

Definitely a must for anyone in the area or passing through.

It was hard to decide what to order because it all looked so good. The food we did order was so good that we could not order enough in one visit. I have to keep going back.

Pros: The food is simply great, vegan or not.

Great sushi! Lots of choices

Update:
Went for dinner and it was great! Got the spicy tofu appetizer, the tofu teriyaki dinner box, and the Classic combo roll plate. All was delicious 😋 really surprised by the California roll! And the pressed sushi on the teriyaki plate was spicy and a bit smoky, really fantastic.
We were stuffed by the end 👏🏼

The servers were very kind and made sure we knew it was a vegan place and asked if we have any dietary restrictions or issues with garlic, onions, or spice.

They said that all the vegan fish alternatives are made from tofu or Japanese potatoes/yams.

My only criticism is that the sauce for the spicy tofu appetizer lacked spice and was more watery soy sauce base but the fried tofu was soft and light.

Overall great sushi place! Really glad this place is in Van!

Good sushis

The starters weren’t very good (dumplings, miso soup and edamame). The sushis tasted good but it would have taken sauce (other than soy sauce) to be great. Overall a bit bland, but I would still go back.

Pros: Good portions of sushis

Cons: Needs some good sauce

Largest Ⓥ sushi menu in town!

I’ll definitely be going back to Shoku even with the drive to get there. Is this Riley Park? I’m new to Canada so not exactly sure in the neighborhood but it’s a very nice neighborhood for sure! The restaurant is in the business blocks here and I search for parking but it was free with a few block walk. The dining room is nice sized and the staff super friendly and fun. Music playing was classic rock radio at lunch hour which also was fun. In Vancouver, I know of one other Ⓥ sushi (nigiri) spot and two other sushi spots with notable full Ⓥ menus. But Shoku is absolutely the largest, most comprehensive menu of all four. Nigiri, hand rolls, sushi rolls, inari, poke, Don bowls, ramen, apps, desserts and more! We had the poke bowl and I’m not usually a poke fan but this bowls had everything - seaweed salad, edamame, lotsa fresh veggies, greens, rice and mock salmon - it was like a salad bowl that I love! Everything is yummy and I’ll def go back.
