Quality matches the cost - Edit
I had the first ramen from the menu and my wife had the first with a soy base. Both had great flavour, especially the soy. Didn't go in with too high expectations, especially due to the previous review - but far out the flavour was there. Easily the best noodle soup I've ever had either in Aus or Japan.

An Exorbitant Lunch Pre-Event That Missed the Mark on Value
Read moreI was chasing the hype and visited Towzen Vegan Ramen in Sydney for a walk-in lunch today to fuel up before heading over to the Animal Justice Party event with Emma Hurst at Glebe Town Hall.
While the venue itself boasts an excellent ambience, the overall culinary experience unfortunately didn't justify the premium price tag.
For a casual dining setup with no reservation, QR code ordering, and no traditional table service, the final bill came out to a staggering $74.77 for a single person (which included a 10% Sunday surcharge and a service fee, "for QR code service").
Here is how the dishes fared:
S1 Teriyaki Tofu ($20.00): A total letdown. Despite the menu description promising a "delicate balance of savoury sweetness," it tasted burnt and completely missed the mark.
My friend started with the lions mane popcorn bites, and these were great.
R4 Premium Hemp Charcoal Soymylk Ramen ($35.00): Visually striking and the ramen itself was delicious, but it lacked the powerful depth of flavor you would expect from a premium bowl. To get a flavor boost, id suggest you order soy sauce or chilli oil at a $2.50 surcharge.
While a condiment charge is somewhat understandable if they are strictly maintaining "authentic Japanese origins," it feels like a bit of a sting when you are already paying $35 for a bowl of noodles.
B5 Sparkling Uji Matcha Strawberry (Iced) ($12.00): A refreshing, unique beverage accompaniment, I don't love matcha, but this was the real deal and pretty okay.
Ultimately, hiding behind the "authentic Japanese origin" excuse doesn't quite cut it when the execution slips on basic elements like burnt tofu and under-seasoned broth—especially at these price points.
Great vibes, but the value proposition just isn't there for a self-service lunch.
Pros: Lions mane popcorn bites, Sparkling iced matcha
Cons: Price, QR code and a service fee, Lacking in flavor

Great ramen. The owner recommended the charcoal ramen as his favorite - it was comforting and delicious. Great people and nice vibe.

Excellent ramen, bites, and I was also a big fan of the dessert, which was soy milk pudding. Service was courteous and helpful. Will come back!😄

Phenomenal - Edit
I went to the original location in Kyoto last year and was unbelievably excited when I saw they were opening up in Sydney. Two completely different experiences but the quality is the same. This is the best vegan ramen I’ve had in Sydney. I ate quite a bit and left feeling pretty light. Highly recommend the karaage and the tan tan ramen.

Best Japanese cuisine in Sydney! - Edit
To sum- a great treat. On entering each customer and I were greeted immediately and brightly in Japanese and ushered in. There are counters with stools to sit alongside strangers for solo diners as well as tables and chairs for groups. You’ll be prompted to scan the QR code at the table for the menu but there are physical paper menus available you can request. The service was very prompt with a glass of water placed on your table immediately. Calm piano music playing alongside hectic kitchen sounds and soft, warm lighting made for a lovely atmosphere. Payment is up-front when you order your meal. A god-tier move is to order plain rice with your ramen, then after you’ve finished the noodles, dump the rice in the leftover broth to soak up that rich goodness. Had a great talk and handshake with Daryl the vegetarian Japanese owner afterwards who is a top bloke and passionate about what he does. The restaurant toilets were also immaculately clean, stylish, and genuinely pleasant to be in. Overall, I will be back multiple times to try as much as I can from this glorious menu!
Read moreHere’s what I had:
Si Chuan Tan Tan Men
$33
The seasonal vegetables of the day were baby bok choi, a single slice of zucchini, a coriander sprig, and two halved cherry tomatoes. I ordered the spicy option, but it was Japanese-level spicy, so it was not really spicy at all lol. I was a bit disappointed at the tiny tablespoon’s worth of soy mince, single sheet of nori, and single oyster mushroom- I wish they were more generous with these because each were perfectly delicious. The noodles were the perfect colour, thickness, and bounciness too. The broth was divine- deeply umami, not too salty, and creamy without being too rich and oily. With the peanut paste and chilli oil, the flavours actually tasted very much like Malaysian laksa with lighter oat milk instead of the rich coconut milk, so I felt a lot less heavy and sluggish afterwards. I all but licked the bowl clean.
Cold tofu with sesame dressing
$12
Gorgeously smooth, nutty, and creamy. The shredded nori and plum tomatoes on top were meticulously placed, and the acidity of the tomatoes helped cut through the richness of the sesame sauce. The black and white sesame seeds also added a little crunch to the otherwise soft texture. Delicious and delicate.
Plain Japanese rice
$4
Served in a perfectly round dome with a little sprinkle of black sesame seeds. Perfectly cooked, glutinous, and fresh.

Excellent - Edit
Really wonderful ramen. I had the first item on the menu and the broth was a great balance of savoury, creamy and spicy. I would love to afford to come here each week but happy it’s in Sydney (less than five minute walk from my office).

Overpriced and lacked flavor - Edit
I was expecting a lot more from a ramen chain directly from Japan especially since my friend recommended it. I got N3 and it was okay. It seriously lacked flavor. It just tasted like soy milk with ramen inside. My husband got N7 and he also said his was nothing special. Wouldn't go out of my way coming here tbh as there are better restaurants in Sydney. I've been to Japan before and I kept daydreaming about the delicious ramen I tried there while I was eating my dish at Towzen.

Delicious - Edit
Went twice in one day and tried both the lions mane karage rice meal and their tan tan ramen. I wouldn’t say the ramen was anything special but it was still delicious! Also was a bit pricey especially on a Sunday due to the weekend surcharge.

Best ramen I've had - Edit
I had the second ramen on the menu, I think it was the truffle ramen with oyster mushrooms? It was the best ramen I've ever had. The okra was also nice, gyoza too, and the tofu dessert was definitely worth it. The black sesame iced drink was also delicious and really unusual! Not overly sweet. Super quick service too

Delicious and creative (allium free) - Edit
We were only in Sydney for a night so we ordered a few things. For entree we recommend the lions mane mushroom bites, for those used to oyster mushroom karage imagine the same delicious flavour but a more dense and meaty texture. The silken tofu was a nice change with a lovely sauce and the edamame was well seasoned. The Sichuan tan tan ramen (mild) had a nice flavour and presentation with the charred oyster mushrooms adding a lovely flavour. For those who aren't into ramen the rice dishes were solid and came with a portion of Miso soup. Note: the booking system of the website doesn't exist so text the number on Google to book. Venue is clean and nicely decorated with very helpful and accommodating. AND THE BEST THING ITS ALLIUM FREE!
