Disappointing and expensive - Edit
I was surprised by was how expensive this place was - appetisers starting at 90kip and you could expect to pay around 200 kip or much more for a main dish. I ordered a falafel sandwich for 170kip which was okay but nothing great. The pita tasted fresh but the falafel was burnt, oily and sour tasting. There was some salad in the bread which was just chopped up lettuce, cucumber and tomato and A LOT of onion which dominated the overall flavour. I honestly could not recommend it. The owner is very friendly and it was the only thing that stopped me from walking out of the restaurant after seeing the prices.

Great food, also expensive - Edit
This place is really expensive compared to other spots in Vientiane. However imo is also really good and unique. The owner is very aware and knowledgeable about vegan food, also very friendly. The menu has a lot of vegan options that are all very clearly marked.
Read moreThe food was really delicious. Very strong flavors. We especially liked the falafel.
As mentioned the prices are very high, the portions are not that big either. So only go if you're looking for someone unique and are ok with spending.

Decent food, lovely owner, but expensive - Edit
This is a nice restaurant. The owner is very friendly and the menu has dedicated vegan sections so ordering is easy, and the food is good quality.

Overrated, not fresh, but friendly - Edit
I hate to leave bad reviews, but I hope this can help to improve the restaurant and can be useful for management.
Read moreSuper friendly and welcoming owner, however, the food quality was not so good. The portions were large, bur we had this feeling that the food was not freshly made. Like all the dishes were assembled from precooked things that were kept in a fridge for at least a day.
I had a foul tahini which actually was some stewed veggies (including cabbage which tastes really weird in a foul) in a tajin with a few fava beans and tahini sauce and I expected a foul to be just cooked mashed fava beans.
Foul is my favourite dish and I ate it more than 1000 times in different countries and unfortunately this one was the worst. It feels like they just put some precooked veggies together with precooked fava beans, with not so fresh tahini, and with low quality oil. So together it was just a super oily mixed precooked ingredients which did not taste fresh and nice as foul should.
Two mains, a salad and two beverages for KIP 510k.
The place looks a bit run down but clean.
1) Friendly, nice, welcoming owner
2) Clean
3) Vegan options
-
1) Not fresh
2) Huge menu (it is much better to have less choice but make everything fresh)
3) Everywhere smells like cigarettes hence the owner was smoking inside the restaurant on the first floor

Dear Mr. Vladislav,
Read moreAgain many thanks for this review on Happy cow and our google
Many thanks for your time to review and rate the pharaohs restaurant VTE.
We are really appreciate your feedback regarding our food and service.
Here I just want to reply to your negative feedback:
1- The Full Medams platter with Tahini:
Thank you for add this beautiful picture of your dish, We never ever add cabbage to our ful either the dish or the sandwish, what you called cabbage it's Lettice mixed with fresh onions, tomato, cucumber cooked together with the ful in oil and many Tahini and i guess the color of the dish shows the amount of Tahini added.
Egyptian style for the ful medmas platter is served with Ful beans not mashed and this was clearly mentioned in our menu, the mashed ful we serve it as sandwish in pita bread also mentioned in our menu.
As you know specially the ful from your more 1000 times eat ful before in many countries that specially the Ful can't be precooked and keep in the fridge, it should cooked fresh.
Oil used is mixed oil with Olive oil and also the picture you add shows that maybe during your more than 1000 eating ful didn't try the Egyptian style ful platter which it's famous with the amount of oil and lemon.
2- TABBOULEH Salad
This was your 2nd order to share I was wishing to mentioned something about it specially there is nothing left in the dish..
3- Mix Chicken platter (your friend order)
This BBQ dish then how come to be precooked and heated? nothing is left in the dish or it's side dish Garlic sauce and pickles, also we recognize that the Vegetables laid over the BBQ pita is already gone (Not Fresh also?)
4- Huge Menu
Yes we have huge menu to match with all our beloved customers required.
Our policy in the Pharaohs Restaurant is serving fresh food, and I think before you visit the place yesterday you read the reviews and you notice how our customers review and rate our food, I know in the field of hospitably it's very hard to make everyone happy but we do our best to make every guest happy and satisfied.
5- Smoking
Yes we allow smoking because we are serving SHISHA as well.
There was customers yesterday smocking shisha and they moved from the table next you not to bothering you and they move inside to smoke as there was no other customers that's why you smell the smoke when you come inside to pay, otherwise I smoke inside if there was no customers.
Thank you again for your picture and rating the Pharaohs Restaurant.
Respects,
Mohamed Aly

Hi Mohamed,
Read moreThanks for your response.
I didn’t mean to make you so angry, but just wanted to leave my honest feedback as a customer.
1. What should I do if I don’t like the taste of food? It doesn’t mean I have to waste the food and leave it uneaten even if I am not satisfied with its taste. I do not say that the food was very bad, but I say that it didn’t taste fresh to me. Yes, sometimes we eat food without enjoying it. But again I do not say it was bad, but I say I had a feeling it was not made from fresh ingredients.
2. So sorry for confusing cabbage and lettuce. Anyway, it tasted weird to me in a foul no matter what I called it.
3. Suggesting me to make my own food and eat at home - sounds really strange and rude from a restaurant owner. It shows that rather than improving your food quality, you just defend yourself and being angry at a customer who just left a review. 95% of my reviews are positive, while just 5% are negative. I also checked your responses to negative reviews - to every person who says a bad thing about your food, you say that they are wrong. So customers are only allowed to say positive things about your restaurant? Otherwise you will ask them to eat at home?
4. Thanks for reminding me that my review on Happy Cow shouldn’t have had a comment about my non-vegan friend’s meal - I removed this part of the review.

5. Yes, tabouleh tasted good. Sorry for not mentioning it. My problem was the foul.

Dear Value Customer,
Read moreIf you do not know the difference between cabbage and lettuce, as you mentioned in your response, then there is no need to respond to you. Also, thank you for clarifying to our valued customers that the food is not bad, but it is not according to your taste, and so
Thank you for the suggestions you made, which I think will be very important when you open your own restaurant. We are fully prepared to provide advice if you request, especially in the field of vegetarian food.
Thank you very much again, and we wish you all the best. By the way, when talking about the size of the food menu, remember that you are a guest and not the owner of a place. We are fully aware that we can provide everything that our menu contains, and I may surprise you if I knew that there is more and more that we can offer from the Egyptian and Middle east cuisine and it will be added Soon to match all the choices of our valued guests. Finally, regarding the smell of smoke that fills the place, which was previously answered, I think that you were not able to explore the whole place, as you were sitting in the open air outside, and I think that the smell of hookah smoke was inside, bearing in mind that when you arrived , we informed you that we have several places available, so guidance and clarification must be made.
One last time, when directing criticism to any place, you must be careful and express your personal opinion, not in general, so clarification and clarification must be made.
Thank you
MohamedAly
One last note
Read moreI sincerely apologize to our valued customers and visitors for this long debate dialogue, especially to Happy Cow management, where it is clear that based on what was mentioned above is that the subject is considered an opinion of our dear customer, which we highly value, which I cited as conclusive evidence according to his comments shown above. which Unfortunately, does not apply to the policy of our restaurant, given that we welcome all opinions and comments, whether positive or negative, which are in line with the policy and Happy cow, which we welcome in order to satisfy all the tastes of our valued guests.

Delicious Egyptian food - Edit
The owner is very friendly and helpful and can make suggestions of what to eat, as well as menu items being labelled as vegan. We had the koshary & fattah. Both were delicious and massive portions. We could have eaten one dish between us, but we forced it down because it was so good. The fresh mint lemonades are so good and the surroundings are nice with some traditional music to set an atmosphere (lacking in most Lao restaurants)

Nicely spiced foods & good vibes - Edit
From the outside, i hadden't expected this place to be so nice. Upstairs is a beautifull dining area, but unfortunately it was too hot for us. We were seated downstairs and the owner brought some better ambience with changing the music to Arabian music. We ordered the items that the owner recommended and really enjoyed these dishes. The tastes, the music, the ambiance.. it alsmost made us feel we weren't in Laos. The owner was really nice and friendly as well. The food was 5 stars for us 👌

Cool Place with Great Food - Edit
I had never in my life tried Egyptian food before so I was excited when I saw this place pop up on HappyCow. I have heard that this cuisine is naturally vegan-friendly but had never gotten the opportunity to try it. Well this place has actually made the effort to clearly specify the vegan options in green, with the veggie options in purple and others in red. The owner is very friendly and will give you recommendations of dishes. I tried the moussaka which came with either rice or French fries. This is a fantastic tasting dish and I really enjoyed the pickles and the fresh chilli that came on the side.
Read moreIt also has a really cool bar vibe and sells a wide range of alcoholic drinks for reasonable prices.
My only regret was leaving it until my last night to try here as I couldn't go back and try any of the other vegan dishes.

AMAZING FOOD - Edit
This Is the first time my boyfriend and I have tried Egyptian food and we were blown away. I had the fava beans and he had the spinach pie. The portions are huge and full of flavour. Upstairs is a very chilled atmosphere where we felt completely comfortable sitting back chilling with our full bellies. The owners are incredibly hard working and so kind, they are both very passionate about their food and extremely welcoming, they both have a full understanding of veganism and we had every confidence that our food would not contain any animal products. It is a must if you are staying in Vientiane! (Couldn’t give it a 5 star rating as happy cow won’t let you if it’s not a fully vegan restaurant)
