The Fountain of Ooph

Bur Dubai. Not a destination for many would be sightseers in a city famed for its glitz and glamour, but sequestered within a distinctly average looking (though still five-star) hotel sits this altogether worthy eatery.
In stark contrast to the outward appearance, the interior is a celebration of grandeur. Sitting as this restaurant does, within the grand atrium, its dominant feature is a sweeping, palatial staircase. With such imperious surroundings, it would have been a considerable disappointment if the food couldn’t match the aesthetic standards, but right from the off, I could tell that this wouldn’t be an issue.
Fresh, well-composed options were to be found in every corner of the spread, with several highlights worthy of singular praise: sticky, satisfying braised red cabbage, almost magically moreish root veg, and delicate, yet flavoursome, vegetable risotto. Moreover, despite this abundance of choice, the staff were almost at pains to provide even more options, chief among these were the burgers. When posed with the question, “Vegan chicken or vegan beef?” my response was, of course, both. This obviously caused some confusion and consternation for the chef who, believing I had misheard, felt obligated to ask again. With further clarification, both duly arrived and were dispatched, joyously, with aplomb. A number of other freshly prepared, bespoke dishes seemly just materialised at my table during the course of the brunch, all of which achieved the same impressive levels of quality.
With no negatives to speak of, and glut of positives, it difficult to think why I wouldn’t return here soon for more of the same.
