800 lb. Gorilla of Chicago vegan food! - Edit
This is THE place for vegan food in Chicago, the flagship place for all plant-based eating. Their tag line “meat free since 83” says it all. All good is created in house and they have an incredible selection of entrees, apps, milkshakes and everything can be made vegan.
Read morePros: Tons of vegan options , Long term community , Incredible food
Cons: Usually very long waits, Menu hasn’t changed a whole lot, Can be expensive

This place is everything! - Edit
My husband and I like to split two meals, so we got the meatloaf and the chicken fried steak. They were both so good! We also got a slice of carrot cake and homemade vanilla ice cream. The atmosphere is very chill and not pretentious at all. The food is amazing! One of our favorite places ever.

Best Vegan Diner Food in America - Edit
Hear me out- I have been to countless vegan diners, or diners with vegan options, or had vegan classical american/diner fair throughout america (I am looking at you too Champs)
Read moreNOTHING compares to the Chicago Diner. It is the best vegan american restaurant I have been to time and time again. Birthdays, Graduations, Celebrations, any random and hungry day- I am there. I will keep coming back for the amazing food, fun staff, and adorable atmosphere (Halsted location)
You will NOT be disappointed

Awesome place and great food - Edit
Had the seitan wings and a salad. The wings are like tenders and are pretty thick. The taco salad was supremely tasty. There are t shirts to sell and an expansive dessert menu. Go here!

Incredible, year after year! - Edit
This is one of my favorite places to eat anywhere! We went for dinner Saturday, brunch Sunday, lunch today (Monday), and got dinner to go to eat on the flight home. The Reuben sandwich is amazing. My newly vegan partner loved it. We also tried the gyro sandwich, Philly “steak” sandwich, and the country-fried “steak” with mashed potatoes, veggies & gravy. The milkshakes and the cheesecake are fantastic. I recommend going at off hours (e.g., between lunch & dinner, or for weekday brunch) to avoid a long wait. If you are looking for healthy food, this is not the place. They serve comfort food, straight up!

It's all good idk 🤷🏼♀️ the Reuben is especially good. And their milkshakes are the best. Smaller place than in Logan.

Great food and drinks - Edit
Friendly staff, awesome drinks and the best vegan nachos I’ve ever had. Was sad to see they did serve eggs and dairy - I had thought they were 100% vegan. All items can be made vegan.

Comfort food - Edit
My family traveled to Chicago from Minnesota with a goal of trying this place. It didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed some of our favorite (vegan) comfort foods and absolutely loved the shakes. Next time we’re in Chicago, this will be on the top of our list again!!

Fantastic experience all-round! - Edit
Considering their slogan is “meat free since ‘83” it’s clear they’re doing something right! I’d say all of it is right. The restaurant itself is charming, the staff delightfully friendly and helpful, and the food is over-the-top delicious. Huge portions! The menu has a variety of veganized classics like burgers, salads, poutines and shakes. There’s something to please everyone from vegans to omnis. Due to its success, there is usually a wait but they do have a covered patio designated to waiting (I was told 20-30 mins and it only took about 10 mins). My only regret is eating too much food that I couldn’t try dessert - a good reason to return. I would recommend splitting food with your party so you can try more and not miss any of the delicious choices.

Just go! - Edit
If you are in Chicago, go here! It's tiny and parking is a little hard (I'm not used to city parking) but it's well worth it! The food was amazing and I was just so unused to having so many options! In fact, I ate and took an order of something to go for dinner. The waitress was nice, but as we weren't young, hot and trendy, she seemed a little disinterested. Not bad overall though. We got there right when it opened and it was packed within a few minutes!

I absolutely loved trying new versions of classic sandwiches! I tried the Reuben sandwich for lunch and came back for dinner and had the gyro and was pleased both times! The side I chose both times were the Mac and cheeze, delicious!

Favorite Vegan Spot - Edit
I have dined at many vegan restaurants so far and this is my favorite. I have never had a non vegan Rueben but the one i had here was Divine. The milkshake was ok, and the sweet potato fries were great. I will come back again but it is pricey. The shake alone wasn't very big and was $7.

The Chicago Dinner in Logan Square - Edit
99 percent of their food is vegan. It is a nice place to go with your family or by yourself. The staff is very friendly. For a meal expect to spend 10-20 dollars. Their food is super delicious. I also really like their vegan milkshakes and they have a good list of vegan desserts.

I was a little underwhelmed but only because it came so highly hyped. The Cuban sandwich seemed a bit of a starch bomb. I need to come back and try something else.
