Great and now all vegetarian - Edit
Something different about this spot caught our eye as we were walking by. It’s now ALL VEGETARIAN and has an extensive amount of clearly marked vegan options. We had apps, breads, and mains that were all flavorful and delicious. Can’t wait to try more options in the future. Glad to have it as a local spot for us.

Fun small dish options and good labeling - Edit
Fun branding on good takeout dishes! I’ve had slightly more complex flavors on an okra curry dish, but we still plan to order again

Awesome restaurant, glad to see it go plant-based - Edit
Honestly this place was good before, but not an absolute tip-top fav for me before it went full veg. It just. covered so much of the same group as a dozen other Indian restaurant in the area, without a huge difference in quality (most places within Boston/Cambridge/Somerville are OK-ish, you need to go to Burlington, Woburn or Waltham to get the REAL top notch Indian food). However, they really took it to the next level when they moved to fully plant based meat. Tons and tons of dishes you simply can't get vegetarian elsewhere in Boston, like Veggie chicken Biryani, Various curries with Soya chaap and Soya Chunk, and the expansive Indo-chinese menu. Not sure how many vegan options, but as a vegetarian I'm always happy and will start supporting more. I hope it works well for them, and would love to see even better veggie meat alternatives on the menu, beyond the soya chaap/chunk/current veggie chicken (like tindle etc).

Now 100% vegetarian - Edit
I went and talked to the owner today. They'd been converting to all-veg gradually, and finished the process about two months. Everything is now 100% vegetarian, and every item on the menu is clearly labeled for whether it is also vegan or gluten-free (many, many options for both). The menu on the web still has one tiny section that mentions a grill with actual meat, but that no longer exists, they just haven't finished cleaning up the website.
Read moreIt's a little place, not fine dining at all, basically a neighborhood joint with a couple of tables and a booming take-out business. I had the Nargisi Kofta Maharaja Biryani, it was everything one would hope for from this kind of place: flavorful, interesting, generous quantity (not particularly cheap, though -- I guess with Cambridge rents, that's too much to ask).
The menu is overwhelmingly varied, have fun!
Pros: Many interesting options, Robust flavors, Small, family business

Lots of options and good food! - Edit
I had the aloo gobhi and khasta kachori jodhpuri. Both were good but on the spicier side. The whole menu is labeled whether it’s vegan for every item. There are so many more things I want to try from this place! I’m not positive that the whole menu is completely vegetarian however, I would check on that.

Disappointing - Edit
Only ate here once but I’m unlikely to come back again. Worst chana masala I’ve ever had. it literally just tasted like they took chickpeas out of the can and threw sauce on it. the naan was really just bread. also it was so expensive and they gave the same quantity as other good indian food places. I guess the only redeeming quality was that you get enough for two days, but do I really want a lot of something that tastes so bad? It’s a no for me.

Easy to eat at, very vegan-friendly - Edit
Yes, the signage says "halal, vegan, gluten-free," but I don't think it ever indicates that it's entirely those things! It has many clearly marked vegan options on the online menu (nuts and gluten are marked as well), and staff is helpful. Love the bainghan bharta and chana masala here!

Ate there once but take this as a warning - Edit
Surya, at least on their storefront says vegan, gluten free, and Halal. It is not fully vegan or gluten free and it doesn’t say options that are vegan or gluten free. Food was fine.
