The biggest fan of Spicy Moon!

We absolutely love Spicy Moon! It’s one of my all-time favorite vegan restaurants in NYC. We have been more than 50 times across their various locations.

Our go-to orders are:
- Dan Dan Noodles with vegan beef (normal/standard spicy level): excellent flavor; filling and generous portion size; a tad oily; the gluten-free option is also delicious but is a slightly different texture
- Kung Pao (mixed vegetables and tofu): tastes very good fresh but doesn’t reheat well because of the battered coating; definitely feels a bit heavy but it is flavorful; watch out for the bits of pepper that is ultra spicy
- Vegetable Fried Rice: a classic; has a ever so slightly smoky flavor
- String Beans: sautéed and tasty!
- Pea Leaves with Garlic: a bit oily but refreshing overall!
- Red Bean Bun: what’s not to love!
- Thai Iced Tea: overpriced but always appreciate the opportunity to have a vegan Thai iced tea

Very good

I love the fried rice with vegan beef! I’d definitely recommend trying that one at Spicy Moon. The spring rolls are also really good! 🥰

Great food!

Went with a group of people and we got a variety of dishes and they were all great! Desserts were delicious as well.

Pros: Great options, Very easy to split check with their online payment, Cute art on the walls

Cons: Seating was kind of tight

Best restaurant in the city

When I moved to NYC, this is one of my first restaurants I tried and it’s been my favorite ever since. I always get the green beans and an ube mule. For a tofu dish, I either get the mapo tofu or dry pepper style. The food comes out so quick and is best shared — that way you can try more!

Pros: Green beans, Great to share, Near Washington Square Park/NYU

Food was okay but the atmosphere was awful

The music was so loud you had to scream to be heard, not to mention the speakers would violently pop and hurt our ears multiple times. It felt like they were trying to give you a club experience whilst being a solid dining experience at the time - which they failed at that too. The prices were a lot for food that often came in a under-seasoned. It wasn't bad but I just don't get it.

Solid vegan Szechuan food

The Dan Dan noodles with vegan beef is their most famous dish. But good food generally, except for the number of deep fried options (including the crispy eggplant) - less my thing. A bit pricy for an Asian restaurant

Pros: Dan Dan noodles, Atmosphere , Service

Great Group Dinner Spot

Great spot for a group dinner. Love the scallion pancakes and sour cream dumplings. Nice cocktails as well.

Definitely good to get a reservation as it gets quite busy.

Delicious and filling

I got the vegetable fried rice with added “chicken” made spicy and it was so good! I loved the flavors, it tasted perfectly balanced and spiced. One of the better meals i have had in New York.

Pros: Quality, Large portions, Flavors & spice

Cons: Seating was kind of cramped

Excellent

I was quite hyped after reading the review, and I was not disappointed. Each dish was delicious, large portions, lovely staff and ambiance, quick service. I recommend adding the vegan beef to the Dan Dan noodles

So many tasty flavours

The Dan Dan noodles & Brussel sprouts were the winners. Evening vibe is really fun too with a dj inside.

Food was oké

The food was okay but very very expensive. Maybe that’s just Manhattan but 16 dollars (ex tip) for some french Fries is wild.
The service was great and the vegetables were nice.

Pros: Service

Cons: Expensive

one of my go-to vegan places

I like the salt and pepper tofu (not spicy), double cooked king oyster mushroom, and pretty much everything else I've tried (and forgot the name of)

Fast service and great value

Everything we had was fabulous! And the food came incredibly fast with friendly service. We had the crabless rangoons, stir fry chili glass noodles with beyond beef, kung pao style, lychee hard seltzer, and the seasonal pear chai cocktail.

Pros: Fast service, Good value, Amount of food

One of the Worst Meals in NYC

I was excited to try this as I heard so many great things. We ordered the mapo tofu, vegetable fried rice, and wonton chili oil. The chili oil reminded me of pepperoni (🤢) and the textured filled was odd. The mapo tofu had no flavor and the fried rice was extremely greasy and tasted burned. I will not go back, I was very disappointed by the greasy, bland food we got. One of the worst vegan places I've been in NYC.

Pros: Many options, Cool atmosphere

Cons: Greasy, Bland

Tingly and Yummy

One of my favorite vegan restaurants in NYC. I always request for the highest level of spiciness. Their dishes are just so addictive.

Good value vegan Sichuan lunch

Real nice address in village. Lunch was excellent value at under $20. I had veg dumplings and dan dan noodles with beyond beef. Everything was good but noodles were excellent!

Tasty food

Really tasty food in a casual restaurant with eclectic deco and great service. The fried vegetable rice with beyond beef was very good as was the kung pao tofu.

Very tasty, but not super balanced

The food was so tasty and addictive. I loved having such flavourful options. We had some kick-ass mocktails and a super tasty black sesame fried Bao. Some wishes:
- the menu is extensive and would benefit from descriptions. What does "homestyle tofu" look like?
- some dishes don't come with protein/veg (i.e, the Dan Dan noodles are basically just noodles in sauce with a very small amount of greens). You sometimes have the option to pay more for protein (Beyond).

A really fun time, great food

Finally made it to Spicy Moon and it lived up to the hype! The spot is super cute, service was great, and the menu is incredible. So many options, so much looks amazing, and it is really hard to choose. The Dan Dan noodles were probably our favorite, followed by the wontons, but everything was delicious!

Excellent

-hen of the woods mushroom bao- 9.5/10 excellent, wayy overpriced tho
-rice cakes plate- 9.5/10 great, comes with veggies, kinda similar style to Tteok-bokki, but in a brown sauce
-fried eggplant - 9.5/10 excellent
-Kung Pao - 10/10 excellent, comes with fried tofu and veggies
-map tofu 9.5/10 excellent, numbing spice, order rice with it, not unbearably hot for a lower tolerance person, but definitely hot
-veg wontons in chili oil 9/10 great

Amazing food, do not miss

Our whole meal was delicious - scallion pancakes, wontons in chili oil, cabbage with dry pepper, salt and pepper tofu and Dan Dan noodles. I don't think the beef added to the noodles so would skip that next time, but even so everything was delicious and we had to roll me back to the subway.

Not bad lunch special

Stopped by for lunch, got there and it was empty but completely filled by the time I left. They have a pretty good menu (think all the vegan stuff from Din Tai Fung plus some more) along with a couple lunch special options.

I opted for the small plate plus bowl/entree lunch special, I think $17 so not too bad. My small plate was just 2 steamed veggie dumplings, good but nothing to write home about. Then I decided on Kung Pao Tofu for my main, which in hindsight was probably a mistake since it’s generally a pretty mediocre dish. And yeah, it was pretty good but definitely not a stand out.

I think sharing a few more dishes between a group would be a lot more fun, so I’m cautiously giving this place 4 stars. Pretty good value for the lunch special too. Only gripe is the god-awful tiny stool they had me sitting on. I’m a spry young person, and I still was not feeling great hunched over my food like a goblin since the short little stool had no back.
