So yummy! - Edit
This was my first time having Malaysian food (vegan or not) and it was amazing! Satay was especially good and I’d gladly bathe in that sauce

A must try Asian cuisine - Edit
Food is awesome. Serving is generous. Complimentary cold drinking water. The Katsu Curry Rice with King Oyster Mushroom is not very spicy. King Oyster Mushroom is thick and juicy and coated with a crispy crust. Laksa noodles slightly spicy. It has thick and rich coconut milk gravy accompanied with okra, beans sprout, gyoza, bean curd, char siew. Gan Lau Mee aka dried noodles with unique black sauce accompanied with chilli paste and char siew (mock roasted meat with crispy crust) and gyoza. Love it's char siew as it does not taste gluten. I think it's made of soy. If you do not take alliums, do request to omit the spring onions that came with the Laksa Noodles and Gan Lau Mee (dried noodles) as garnishing.
Read moreGreat customer service. Staff speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Nice ambience. Clean washrooms.
It's a small restaurant. Reservation is recommended as the eatery has very limited tables. We happen to walk-in without realising it requires reservation however we were lucky to secure a table as we reached 30 mins right after they opened. Since the dinner crowd haven't set in, we still have a grace period of 1.5 hour to finished our meal. Bus 14 reaches the restaurant which is 1 min away.

Nice place with great food - Edit
I was curious about Malaysian cuisine and in this case it was amazing experience. I strongly recommend table reservation, because the place is often full - this info is from the owner. I had amazing flower tea,Lau Mee and Gyoza as a starter. All was delicious and very nicely prepared. Prices are little bit high and it is worth it. If you don’t know what kind of food malaysian cuisine is offering check ahead their menu because there are no pictures or food descriptions.

A lovely afternoon - Edit
We came here for a birthday lunch, and had such a great time! We were made to feel welcome straight away, and everyone was so friendly. The food was absolutely amazing. Crackers and sweetcorn fritters for starter, and a beautiful kung po with fried rice. Great value too, what a lovely place :)

Delicious vegan experience! - Edit
We went to Soul Vegan on a Friday night, thinking we had a reservation for that night. Unfortunately, we had messed up the booking and booked for the next night! Luckily, the person who seemed to be in charge was so nice and fixed a table for us! The waiter didn’t make it feel like we had to leave quickly either, even though the place was full.

Delicious Malaysian food, nice surroundings, attentive service, great value! - Edit
I can be critical of vegan food offerings in Edinburgh which are often below par, but I have nothing negative to say about this excellent place; would be entirely suitable for non vegans too (and no "plant meat" to be seen hooray!). Highly recommended 👌

Tofu expectations not met - Edit
I heard that the laksa was very good here, but I went for the deep-fried tofu, and I wish I didn't. The broccolini was so tender and nice, but unfortunately, the tofu was a bit disappointing. I was expecting firm tofu, but this tofu fell apart when I tried to pick it up with my chopsticks. It also contained other stuff inside than just tofu, and it was topped with crispy fried onion, which I thought was a bad combo. However, I like the vibe of the place and will definitely give it another go as they had many delicious-looking dishes on it.

Lazy and oily food - Edit
I really don’t get the hype :((
Read moreThe food is all deep fried and very oily(which I understand is typical of Malaysian food). We ordered the fried mushrooms and it was just fried batter, no mushroom at all! Definitely not worth £7.5 for that kind of appetiser and quality of food. I got the laksa curry noodles and that was ok but again not enough fresh ingredients! It came with deep fried wontons??? Just felt like very lazy food which some may find tasty but definitely not for me.

Heavenly experience - Edit
Absolutely fantastic foods served in a cosy atmosphere accompanied by superfriendly staff! The place is quite small so I highly recommend you book a table beforehand. Managed to get a table without a reservation, but the place filled up very quickly. Lots of Malaysian dishes served with the greatest of customer attentiveness. Their tea selection was small but the ginseng tea we ordered was fantastic! So were both starters, mains and desserts! Can't recommend enough!

The BEST vegan food - Edit
The food here is absolutely beautiful. It was hard to decide what to get because everything sounded so wonderful. We went with the Rendang Lion's mane mushroom and Soul's Special deep fried tofu for our mains and deep fried cabbage ball and crispy spring rolls to start. All of which were beyond delicious! The service is also amazing! So friendly and attentive. I honestly can’t say enough good things and will absolutely be back to try everything on the menu!!

We ate there on a Saturday evening before a gig at La Belle Angele, nearby.

We also had the rendang lion's mane mushroom, which we loved! The fried noodles we had on the side came with beansprouts and were so tasty!
We would definitely return here if we were back in Edinburgh again as it was such lovely food.

Seriously impressed - Edit
We have been looking for exactly this type of vegan restaurant in Edinburgh. A place where you don’t miss anything from your dish because the flavours are spot on, the service is quick, portions are perfect and everything is reasonably priced.
Read moreWe had the laksa, the sweet and sour and the rendang lion’s mane dish as a take out with the cabbage balls as a side. What a treat! It’s definitely our new favourite place.

Seriously tempted to move to Edinburgh just to frequent this restaurant regularly! - Edit
Visited Soul Vegan whilst on a break in Edinburgh and omg so glad that I did! The restaurant, although small, is lovely inside. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and as for the food… Wow. Seriously if you enjoy good food do yourself a favour and pay this little gem of a restaurant a visit. Neither you, or your tastebuds, will regret it.
