Vegan Sushi - Edit
I loved this delicious cozy vegan restaurant. We had deep fried mushroom appetizers which didn't look too appealing but was tasty. We had sushi with eggplant that served came by and torched. This was surprisingly tasty. I forgot what my friend ordered. We also had ramen which was ok. Portion small on ramen and also very little broth. But it was very beautiful and tasty. Wait staff very attentive and nice. Good for a nice romantic dinner. Lights are dim in restaurant

Super tasty vegan sushi! - Edit
Really great vegan sushi options with wonderful flavor combinations! The crabcake hand roll was by far my favorite… I think I could've eaten four of them!

This food is great. the menu has a bunch of creative dishes, and I think the Sushi is the most memorable. Both Ramen options were delicious. Good vibe, the restaurant seems like an awesome place for a date night.
Read moreCon, we took our kids and couldn't convince them to try the tasting menu. Since the whole table wasn't going to order it, my wife and I couldn't try it. Once tasting menus weren't an option, it got pretty expensive.

Honestly it wouldn’t be a go-to for me. I like simpler sushi but this is perfect for a fancy date night. Omakase was super fun.

Creative, flavorful menu! - Edit
Wow this place was amazing - at a time when a lot of vegan sushi restaurants are closing we were delighted to find Shojin. The menu is full of incredible options from sushi rolls to bowls and plates. We tried the Shoj-In-n-Out hand roll, spicy crispy broccoli and shishuto peppers, and two rolls: Dynamite 2008 and Pirates of the Crunch. All amazing, we will definitely be going back!

The most delicious and intimate dinner. The food was exceptional. We ordered from the Valentine’s Day fixed menu. The service was amazing and we were treated like the only guests in the restaurant.

The Best - Edit
Hands down my favorite sushi ever. I’d rather go out of my way and have an amazing meal here than get okay sushi elsewhere. The service is always top-notch, too. Shojin is just the best if you want a fancy, delicious meal.

Christmas Omakase - Edit
Japanese owned and great concept! We tried the Christmas omakase meal which was great but not mind blowing. For $88 per person not sure if it was worth it but good experience for sure. Their desserts and drinks are good though. Would go back to try their other specials again though. Also the restaurant is too dark #Veganuary

Loved everything we tried, with the standout being a special lions mane roll they had that night! Can’t pass up a vegan miso soup and the gyoza was a favorite also. I’d love to come back and try more!

Best vegan sushi - Edit
I went to this restaurant when they had one in downtown LA and it is still one of my favorite spots to take vegans and non vegans a like. I need to go visit their Culver’s city location because the food is and service is always top tier.

Best dinner experience ever. Ever. - Edit
We came here for the omakase, and opted for the 14 item dinner. And we were blown away. This is hands down one of our top three dinner experiences anywhere, and one of those 3 was in Kyoto. We felt like we were in Japan. The food is divine. Absolutely stunning. Incredible. The truffle miso soup is literally what dreams are made of. Everything was beautiful. But also the service was outstanding, the best service I have ever had anywhere, and I myself have worked in fine dining in the past for years. The service was intentional, warm, welcoming, delightful and honestly perfect. Can we also talk about the care and thought that went into everything? The dishware was gorgeous, every single plate was different. They gave us warmed towels to wipe our hands down before eating the hand rolls. The sake selection was stellar. And my goodness the bathroom was amazing!! If I lived close by I would go here all of the time but sadly I don’t.☹️ So don’t miss out on the chance to come here. It’s a must. An absolute must! I wish I could go back but I definitely will the next time I’m in LA. What a special gem of a place. Thank you Shojin for the most memorable experience ever, you do beautiful magical things! And thank you for being all vegan, I couldn’t believe all vegan omakase exists and it was stunning. Just wow. Wow wow wow. Arigato gozaimasu🩷

I absolutely love Shojin. The food is delicious, creative, and full of flavor. The presentation is beautiful, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and so nice. Great spot to celebrate a special occasion; they go above and beyond to make you feel extra special. The place is always packed so I recommend making reservations in advance. Unbelievably Delicious - Edit
Celebrated my birthday with the amazing omakase menu. Everything was outstanding. As a vegan, I'm thrilled to be able to still enjoy sushi, especially sushi that tastes this good! The ambiance is lovely with the dim lights, music, and artwork. The staff are also incredible and extremely attentive, and go above and beyond to make your experience top notch. This was our first visit, but certainly not the last! Thank you, Shojin, for helping me celebrate my birthday!

Meticulous and Delicious - Edit
Came here on a Saturday night for dinner with reservations. We sat outside in the beautiful patio area. They have heaters. The inside seating was beautiful as well. They are very attentive and will even hold open the plastic tarp that separates the indoor dining form outside patio. I think they ask all diners if they’re vegan, so don’t be surprised. They ask very nicely not in a judgmental way.
Read moreWe opted for a la carte rather than tasting menu. The eggplant Wagyu nigiri was amazing! Seared at table side. The baked scallop roll was my favorite. Also seared table side. The cutlet roll (I don’t remember the name of this one) was alright. Not my favorite. We also shared the non spicy ramen with a vegan egg. We had to take a to go box at this point. The noodles weren’t the typical chewy ramen noodles which was the only downside. Then we had the matcha cheesecake for dessert. More like mousse I think.
Overall I would definitely come back here. Might even do the tasting menu next time!
Came here a second time in winter. They didn’t have the eggplant Wagyu anymore nor do they flambé your rolls tableside anymore. Apparently some people complained about the gas. The flavor wasn’t as good this time for the baked scallop roll. The dragon roll seemed more like salmon skin than eel roll. The rock shrimp mushrooms were our favorite. Mushroom tempura was light and mild. Taste of gion was mild, miso cookie was the highlight.
Not sure I’ll be coming back anymore, seems like first time was the best.

Nice sushi, mediocre ramen, but great dessert - Edit
Visited back in 2017. If I really liked it, I’d have given it 5 stars then. Something must be missing, can’t recall whaat.
Read moreVisited again in 2022 Dec.
Tried their “best” spicy ramen, matcha tea and the Gion dessert.
Their ramen does not seem to be the traditional Japanese style. It’s more like Japan-western fusion, I appreciate the attempt to make look-alike egg vegan, but it tastes nothing like an egg. I also like kale by itself, but in the ramen? Not so much. Broth is okish. They can do better. I won’t recommend this ramen.
The dessert however hits the right spot. Subtle compared with western counterparts, but has its unique mixture with matcha(chocolate) and sesame(ice cream) that makes me craving for more.

Very good tasting menu - Edit
I have heard about this place for many years at there arts district location but I since I’m closer to the Culver City location I had to finally try! We were not disappointed, we each got the 20 course tasting menu and it really hit the spot and let us try a multitude of different items we normally may not have ordered. I recommend making a reservation as they book up quickly and any of the sushi rolls are a must try for sure.

Maybe I should've tried the tasting menu - Edit
The service here is great, the atmosphere is nice, and you can dress up (the servers were in suits and dresses) or down. We sat on the outdoor patio and enjoyed the evening breeze. It's always nice knowing everything on the menu is vegan, and the food was good, just maybe not my personal favorite sushi or ramen flavor combinations.
Read moreThe biggest downside here is the parking situation. All on-street, and you're likely to end up parked in a residential area.
Pros: Fantastic service, Nice atmosphere and patio
Cons: Hard to find parking
