Lovely place, slow service - Edit
We had an açai bowl, energético smoothie and the vegan promo breakfast - everything was delicious but the wait, as mentioned in other reviews, was unusually long considering we were the only people there in the morning. We weren’t in a rush so it wasn’t much of a problem for us, but just be prepared to wait a while.

Die vegane Auswahl ist wirklich gut, aber die Frau mit Hund, wahrscheinlich Eigentümerin, war unglaublich unfreundlich. Ich kam kurz vor 10h, Öffnungszeiten ist unten ab 9 h, und das hat ihr gar nicht gepasst, was sie mich auch spüren ließ, so dass ich wieder gegangen bin. Ich kann einen 6 Euro Smoothie auch woanders bekommen.

Many vegan options and lots of choice for drinks and smoothies. I ordered the vegan combo, not really sure exactly what it would be. It was two plain Beyond burgers, some potatoes, a tiny bit of guacamole and some browning lettuce. Very slow to arrive. The waitress (owner I think) is brusque and cold. I tried my best to be smiling and friendly but it wasn’t reciprocated. I speak Spanish so it wasn’t communication problems. The juice and the chocolate cake were good.

Best vegan option in town, but… - Edit
Pros: Staff was very friendly and smiling. They make everything fresh and really tasty. It’s a great option in this town, where you smell fish on every corner and they don’t have many vegan options in local restaurants. Prices were ok for this type of restaurants.

They don’t speak English or German and understand it very badly, although they have menu in both languages. You need to write down the number of your meal to place an order correctly.
The toilets had a broken locker, so every minute there was someone disturbing you.

The place itself is cute, nice, with light colours at the walls and plants.
Read moreThe strange thing is that the restaurants close to this place were full as it was lunch time, but we were the only clients of Roots at the moment.
The menu comprises sandwiches, salads, bowls, dishes of the day and desserts; I would say that 70-80% of the menu is vegan.
As we had an appointment we just ask for a wrap to take away; it was filled with hummus, salad, tomatoes, sprouts, onions and grilled tofu, but I found it very plain and bland.
Perhaps we were there in the wrong day

Mostly vegetarian, some fish dishes, lots of vegan options. Healthy salads and buddha bowls with vegan feta. Lovely lady cooking and serving. Vegan burgers available too.

We had a nice beyond meat burger with wedges and coleslaw (rather like a normal salad).

We wanted to have Sangrias or cocktails but unfortunately they didn’t have it this day - as the lady who does the Sangrias and cocktails was on vacation :(
It was a nice experience, maybe we will return.

We stopped at Roots for Elevenses because our hotel did not have many vegan options for breakfast. We both ordered a sandwich (Protein Sandwich made with spinach, avocado and chick peas, and a vegan cheese sandwich). Both sandwiches were very good, as were the fresh juices we had. Everything was very affordable, too.
Read moreThe restaurant is located in the centre of Puerto de la Cruz close to the church and it was a great place to sit outside and people-watch. The atmosphere was wonderful.
Staff were very friendly. The only thing we did not like was that we had to wait rather long for our food, so don‘t come here if you are in a rush.
There are many different options at Roots and we will certainly come back.

Edit: went a second time and the glasses were dirty, so needed to ask to replace them. Then they forgot one sandwich and when asked, they charged me again. Luckily I had a look at the bill and found the mistake, so they refunded me the amount.
