I am Vegan, Hear Me Raw!

Meandering my way through the food court, on a mission to another destination, I spied this curious little kiosk. Having perused their wares and given them careful consideration, I convinced myself that I should forego indulgence, for once, and stick to my prescribed route. Well, that was never going to happen, and not ten minutes later I was back and purchasing a box containing just about one of everything. On face value alone, I can’t say that I was completely convinced these confections were going to be worthwhile, as they all looked a little uninspiring, but when it came to tasting, it was a whole different story.
Nothing underlined this juxtaposition between visuals and reality quite like the salty caramel candy. This tiny morsel appeared to be nothing more than your average piece of chocolate when in truth it was a fudgy, chewy flavor bomb and a hell of a way to kick things off. After this initial, entirely pleasant shock, I tackled the rest of the items with much more hope, expectation, and fervour.
Though they didn’t quite match up to their predecessor, the chocolate raspberry cookie, which had a bit more resistance to it than expected, and the incredibly light-textured yet malty wafer were both very pleasant bites.
Next, it was the turn of the bars, a trio, in fact. Starting off with the caramel, it was advertised as being like a Mars, but that is doing a disservice. Far superior to its non-vegan counterpart, this was definitely another winner.
The same too can be said for the peanut praline. Yet another deceptive dessert, it was much smoother and richer than anticipated and left a lovely lingering flavour.
The last of the threesome was by far and away the best - the buckwheat, hazelnut, and caramel bar. This was another said to be akin to an all-time classic: the Picnic. However, unlike the other copycat creation, this one - and not to its detriment - did taste almost exactly like its supposed original. As I gleefully chomped through it, I was hit with waves of nostalgia: what a joy it was.
Finally, I couldn’t possibly pass on the anthill cake - with a name like that, how could I? Firstly, it very much was not a cake and very much was a biscuit (perhaps a macaroon at a push). Secondly, there wasn’t a truly discernible flavour. However, neither of these two foibles stopped it from being delicious.
Well and truly impressed, and with more products to sample, I find it hard to imagine why I wouldn’t return here for more delights.
