Unbelievable Dining in Heraklion - Edit
During our trip to Europe, Peskesi was one of the standout restaurants in all of the Mediterranean.
Read morePeskesi is located just steps away from Heraklion's city center park. There are two entrances, one through a nondescript alley, the other through a garden entrance. The restaurant features both outdoor seating and an indoor seating in a nice wine-cellar castle-like room.
The food and the service at Peskesi were both incredible. The menu was very clearly labled for vegan and vegetarian options and our waitstaff was extremely knowledgable on each ingredient in every dish.
I ordered two dishes to make sure I had enough to eat - and it was more than enough, one would have even sufficed. I ordered the "Palikaria" Salad, a salad used an offering to the gods with a history from Minoan times. It entailed chickpea, beans, and wheat cooked in a pot with spring onion, parsley, petimezi, and lemon. It was delicious.
My second dish was a local greens cooked in a savory lemon sauce. Outside of what I ordered, the restaurant brought us fresh bread, an olive oil tea, a semolina-based vegan dessert, and a traditional rose alcohol similar to ouzo.
The entire experience was incredible.

The management is very friendly and helpful. They are ready to prepare the vegan way many of their dishes. Really nice ambiance. Some dishes already marked as vegan. Other can be adapted. They can also prepare a vegan dessert on the spot.

Read moreThere are several vegan dishes - we ordered the dolmades, the mushroom fricassee (delicious) and a legume dish plus bread. They provided an appetiser - a chicory broth to start and a semolina dessert with raki at the end.
The food, service and setting were very good. It’s moderately expensive compared to some other eateries but they have a worthy ethos sourcing organic products from their farm and indicating the distance the produce is from on the island.
Pros: Loved the ethos, They have olive oil tasting, Great setting
Cons: More vegan options would be great!

This farm to table restaurant has many marked vegan options on the menu. The locally sourced food was prepared with perfection. We had an olive oil, lemon, leek dish, a sautéed bitter greens salad, dolmadas stuffed with soft groats & sweet semolina dessert.

The menu says vegan on some dishes, but we believe that you CAN have it vegan, so do state you're vegan. Food is great. The olive oil arrangement is very special.

Ich habe einen Peskesisalat gegessen. Ist einem Greek Salad sehr ähnlich. Nicht vegan, da mit Schafskäse. Sehr gute Qualität. Preise sind etwas höher. Das Ambiente ist fantastisch. Ich saß draußen zu einer Seitenstraße, somit absolut ruhig und kein Massentourismus. Weinpreise SEHR hoch. Achtung: das Glas wird mit 0,1 berechnet!! Der Service ist extrem gut;. einen höherpreisigem Restaurant entsprechend. Zum Schluss habe ich ein ‚Dessert on the House“ bekommen. Ich esse süße Speisen nicht gern, dies war eine und ich habe sie tatsächlich zur Hälfte aufgegessen. Wenn am Anfang Wasser als ,starter‘ angeboten wird, kommt eine Literflasche! Ich saß sehr lange am Tisch und wurde nie zum Gehen ‚gedrängt‘! Das hat mir auch gefallen.

Some of the most amazing Cretan dishes - Edit
Highly recommend to book ahead as this place is really popular. The food was amazing quality & service too. Portions were big and very authentic Cretan food. They also have a farm (40min away only by car) that you can visit to see the olive oil production. It is more of a fancy dining experience (for Cretan standards) compared to the regular tavernas. We paid around 45€ for 2 entres, 1 main & 2 wines. They gave us complimentary olive oil, raqui & semolina was nice.
Read moreThe only thing I would mentioned is that the dolmades comes with yoghurt although it's in the vegan section so make sure to tell them dairy free. Same if the give you complimentary beetroot dip!

I think the menu changes and when I went here, there were only two vegan options on it (I have to say I didn’t ask if any were possible to make vegan by omitting stuff - I should’ve read the reviews here beforehand :D). However, I had the „trilogy of rare Cretian legumes“. They were served with bread and tasted really good. I love when I can try completely new foods and especially when they are authentic cuisine. The restaurant itself is great as well.

Le chef vous donnera du pain fait maison dans un coffre en bois et du zaziki fait maison. Pour le dessert, vous aurez un dessert typiquement crétois et délicieux ❤️ Le triomphe de la dégustation est le Raki à l'extrait de rose. Notre serveur Vasilis a toujours été très courtoise et a rendu notre dégustation très agréable. Une merveilleuse expérience culinaire dans un endroit plein de charme. Non loin de la côte.

-on the menu, there is the vegan label even if there is honey
-we had to please them to have more bread with the oil tasting
-the "forgotten vegetables" is just a bowl with one sort of peas.
-when the food arrived, the light turned off we couldn't even see what we were eating
-they took off the plates before we finished
-they gave us a free dessert that was basically honey in a gelly.
The place is nice but for sure we won't return.
We really hope that you'll have a better experience than us !

Amazing dining experience in Crete, surpassed our expectations. A more upscale vibe, everything is local from their organic farm and reasonably priced. They only have a few vegan options but each one is delicious. They do a fantasic olive oil tasting from all over the region and the best fried olive appetizer we've ever had!

Overall, this restaurant stands out as the best dining experience I had in Greece. The service, atmosphere and quality of food were outstanding. As a vegan, I was thrilled to see options listed on the menu and the waitstaff was very helpful with guiding me towards the right dishes for my diet. They served incredible bread and outstanding olive oil before the meal. The wine was lovely. As the main course, I ordered a selection of roasted vegetables from their farm, which tasted fantastic even though they were very simple. The care and details that went into this meal made it very memorable. And the bill was shockingly low for the quality of the experience.
