I didn't love the favorite items - Edit
as much as everyone else...I had the chickpea fries, lasagna and fluffy quinoa salad and didn't have an omg mouth experience. They were good, but not amazing. On a save the day note, my carnivore kids did like the burger and the sandwich cookies were AMAZing (mint chocolate). Conveniently super close to the Natural History Museum and Manhatan's Children's Museum.

Great vegan breakfast - Edit
I recently tried Peacefood for Saturday brunch, mainly because I was heading to Hampton Chutney Co (which has vegan-friendly Indian dosa) but it was only 10 am and Hampton Chutney wasn't open yet. Saw the sign for Peacefood Vegan Bakery right next door, so we tried it. The tofu scramble was excellent. The service was great. I will definitely be back - next time will head right to Peacefood. Another vegan place (Blossom du Jour) is across the street, so this block may have the highest concentration of vegan and vegan-friendly places in NYC. If you're looking for a great place for a vegan breakfast/brunch on the upper West side, check out Peacefood.

I was impressed by the waitress who attended me and two friends yesterday, and she was kind enough to offer us dessert when acknowledging our appetizers has not arrived sooner. Overall, a great place to eat with a team who cares about their customers.

Excellent food for reasonable prices - Edit
My friend and her daughter and I had the vegan chili with cornbread, the dumplings and the most delicious smoothy I have ever had in my life (passionfruit). Everything was reasonably priced and delicious, especially the chili. The bakery items looked tempting, but this was meant to be a light lunch. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, the art on the walls - fun and modern, and we enjoyed every minute of our visit.

Classy Vegan Restaurant - Edit
We visited to have a drink and take advantage of the wifi. Such a clean, awesome restaurant, with very friendly staff. We had the hot chocolate (one with soy, one with Brazil Nut Milk - incredible), and a slice of the vanilla cake. We'll definitely be back for more.

Excellent, so .. much... food... - Edit
The serves are massive, you can struggle getting though a main, but you'll want one each 'cos there is so much tasty food. The cakes are awesome and best taken away for after you recover from the size of your main. Heaps of choices, service is good, can be busy but they keep it ticking over. Not too pricey for NYC, good neighbourhood.

Love this place - Edit
I have been here twice now, both times with non-vegans in tow. I love everything I've tried! The chickpea fries are not to be missed. Make sure to save room for dessert too. The cinnamon roll is one of the best I've ever had!

It is not just Peacefood but also happy food. I had a sandwich and the gingerade and a cookie to go since we were off to a show. The restaurant has a great atmosphere being bright and lively. We had great seats at the window table. Our server was friendly and informative about the menu. Very attractive and tasty food.

Fab food and great location - Edit
Me and my mum went to this cafe after finding it on here and the fact that it was just down the road from our hotel. The food was yummy and the waitresses were plesent. I had a juice and the vegan cheeseburger and my mum had the raw lasagne with a Asian salad and a ginger lemonade. We both had a dessert and have saved part of it for breakfast.

Won't Mind to go Back to try other desserts - Edit
Was there for lunch with 3 young kids while visiting to the natural museum around 2 blocks away. Was surprised that the cafe wasn't as busy as what i would expected. But after we settled in, people started coming in and mostly just for take away. We had nuggets, seitan sandwich and key lime pie. The food were really just ok. The sandwich got a very thick bread and too little pesto. Arugula were a bit too bitter and "spicy" for the tongue of the kids. Was having high expectation on the pie (as per someone's feedback), but i wasn't impressed and thought it was very over-priced (a slice at 7$). They have the largest vegan selection of desserts i ever know. Waitresses weren't very attentive or helpful but not rude.

Upper West Side Vegan Oasis - Edit
Peacefood Cafe is one of my absolute favorite vegan restaurants in NYC. The restaurant is filled with beautiful artwork, an upbeat vibe and friendly staff. Peacefood is the place I go every Mother's Day for brunch and I have been there to celebrate birthdays and Valentine's Day. Everything is absolutely delicious; my goal is to sample every dish on the menu. The PFC Unchicken, Fried Seitan Medallion Panini, Vegetable Tempura and Roasted Potatoes Pizza are standouts. The desserts are absolutely not to be missed; every pie, cookie, cake, scone and bar is outstanding. Head to the UWS to experience this vegan oasis.

bakery is amazing! - Edit
I was really excited to try this place and for the most part it met my expectations! The bakery was just so, so good- I was there three times over our stay (we were only a few blocks away, I couldn't resist!), and all of the baked stuff was amazing: carrot cake was super moist with incredible frosting, yummy banana bread that they heated up for me and served with vegan butter, chocolate chip & almond scone, and cowboy cookie. The ginger latte I got one morning was also incredible- exact right balance of sweet and spicy ginger. The savory things that we got for lunch were fun but not mind blowing- the pumpkin sandwich and roasted vegetable panini were good but felt kind of dry, and the chickpea fries were also good but not something I'd necessarily go back for. The bakery I WOULD go back for, though, and I'm sure I will next time we're there!

a wonderful place - Edit
What a find! I discovered this delightful restaurant after having a medical test which required me not to eat for four hours before. I said to the server "is everything here vegan; I don't have to worry about something being served that is animal based?" She said "that's a wonderful question. Of course everything is vegan". The kale veggie soup was excellent as was the burger with chipotle. I recommend this restaurant.

The selection of desserts is astounding! - Edit
The pan-seared Shanghai style dumplings were amazing and their ginger balsamic dipping sauce was drinkable! The chickpea fries are very tasty and spicy too, but the soy nuggets were bland. The potato salad doesn't look like much, but it is SO GOOD! I particularly like the fresh lettuce and bell pepper that comes with it. Now for the most important part - desserts! They have a HUGE dessert case that made me drool as soon as I walked in. The peanut butter cheesecake was a nice balance between sweet and salt, the grasshopper cookie sandwich has a wonderful mint frosting inside, strawberry shortcake was better when melted because it gave the center frosting more flavor, the regular cheesecake was good because it was smothered in strawberries and strawberry sauce.

During my stay in the city I visited Peacefood for lunch and the food was really good. The staff was really nice and friendly. I had the nuggets, mushroom pizza and a chocolate cake. It wasn't a traditional pizza but I loved it :) the nuggets was amazing and the chocolate cake was exactly like my grandmothers. I will come back for sure :)

Good food but ambiance mediocre - Edit
Peace food has a great philosophy on life through food, and for that, thank you. The menu is standard vegan fare, but the dessert selection rivals some bakeries. The best food choices here are whatever suits your palate. The salads are always a fav, but raw can be a preference, too. I like to go here because I have many choices that are good for dessert! Vegan desserts are not easily delicious, but they do a pretty fair job here.
Read moreI also love that I can go here and get a smoothie and sandwich or just veggies and cake. The categories of food here cover just about any vegan palate at any time, so, thanks Peacefood! Just work on the staff attitude.

Update the menu, please! - Edit
I go to Peacefood quite a lot. It's great for both lunch and dinner, for dining both alone and with a friend, and is reasonably priced. I also like the atmosphere and the staff are friendly and service is quick. However, I'm sort of bored with the menu. It hasn't changed for at least 2 and a half years (since I moved to NYC) and there aren't any specials besides soups. If you go, I recommend the quinoa salad, the roasted pumpkin sandwich, or the kale salad (serves only at dinner), and any of the raw pies for dessert (key lime is my favorite!).

First stop on my tour of vegan NY. Had the Roasted Japanese Pumpkin sandwich, which had caramelized onions and arugula. Very good. Don't skip the delicious and refreshing Gingerade. So great. Although I didn't get to try it, the man next to me said the carrotcake was the best he'd ever had in his life. He had a cheeseburger with the works and it looked appetizing,

Peacefood is one of my favorite vegan restaurants in NYC. The food is unique, but very reasonably priced, and delicious! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed, and fun! The decor is neat and the set up of the restaurant makes things very casual and comfortable. My favorite dishes the Fried Seitan Medallion Panini and the Pan seared Shanghai dumplings!

busy location - Edit
We had dinner at Peacefood and arrived during the dinner rush as the place was packed as was the takeout/bakery line. We got a two person table, but they are close together, so we had to listen to the conversation next to us. Since it was so busy, the service was just okay as I never got a refill on my iced tea. As for food, we started with the chickpea fries which were tasty. We shared the medallion panini and the mushroom panini. Very filling. For dessert, we got the strawberry shortcake, but it was really a scone that was too dry although the filling was very good. We decided to take the tiramisu and cheesecake to go. They were extremely good. Overall, tasty food, but I'd rather visit during off-peak hours.

Not mind-blowing, but no real complaints - Edit
We went in the evening, at which point it's certainly not the 'relaxed cafe' the description mentions, but quite a busy restaurant. Nevertheless, with every table taken (more or less), there's a lot of atmosphere, though I'd suggest they maybe cram too many people in, and you might find yourself elbow-to-elbow with couples on a romantic date (right hand side) or arguing with their mother (left).
Read moreThe food was decent enough to mean I have no complaints however, I went for a pasta dish, which is not something I usually do at restaurants as it seems a bit of a rip-off - but this was plenty cheesy and sauce-y enough for my liking. I also had an excellent mulled orange-apple cider (although I remain disappointed with the fact that 'cider' in North America means a non-alcoholic apple drink, I can't hold that against this particular place).
Overall then, I'd like to see the place during the more relaxed day-time, and try some of this dessert that everyone is raving about in the other reviews; but my experience as it stands was also perfectly fine, if not exactly overwhelming. On that basis, three moo-cows,

Vegan Tiramisu - Edit
I enjoyed this place so much! I had the vegan nachos which were the perfect mix of crunchy tostadas, beans, guacamole, vegan cheese, and fresh tomatoes and black olives. Nice mix of textures and tadtes. For dessert I had the vegan tiramisu and I was absolutely amazed! The tiramisu tasted just like a regular tiramisu. So good! The waitress was kind and cheerful as well which made the whole experience so pleasant.
