Prior to this occasion, I can’t say that I have ever previously actively sought out a petrol station on the promise of quality sustenance. A services? Sure. But an actual filling station? More often associated with the most basic foodstuffs, I was led to believe that this was an entirely different prospect. My journey to uncover the truth turned out to be far more arduous than I could have imagined, and, ultimately, somewhat disappointing.
This was actually the second of their outlets I visited that day. The first one I went very much out of my way to get to (I’m looking at you, Gasperich branch) was devoid of literally anything, despite being lunchtime. Having commuted to the process, I eventually rocked up here only to find that the stock situation was only marginally better. With no hummus, no falafel and no sweet treats, I was on the verge of abandoning this shambles of a quest when the rather kind, though completely baffled, server took pity on me and began to rummage about in the store cupboard. What I ended up with was an off-menu, custom made muhammara baguette with a selection of vegetables. Though I’m not going to claim that this was the greatest sandwich that I’ve ever had, but considering the chaos that surrounded its creation, it was pretty good - the fresh, flavoursome bread played a big part in its success.
If happen upon one of these outlets when you are driving through the city, by all means, investigate what they have to offer. However, heed the lesson from my exploits and don’t venture here simply for the sake of visiting.
