A Delivery Wide of the Mark

What is better than an organic supermarket loaded with plant-based options aplenty? One that will deliver said items straight to your face, that’s what.
I, for one, adore aimlessly meandering through the aisles surveying all that I might (probably won’t) buy, but on this occasion I thought I’d mix it up a bit.The joyous sense of satisfaction knowing that, after a very long week of work and battling through Friday traffic, there would be a swathe of glorious, handpicked deliciousness winging its way to me was too hard to resist.
So it was that I waited. Then I waited some more. Over an hour after the requested delivery window, my haul arrived—well, almost all of it. An absent lentil soup and a somewhat lax attitude to timings were an inauspicious start to proceedings and proved unfortunately prescient for the majority of what followed.
Having been privy to many of their wares in the past, I was convinced that I would be completely satisfied with all that I ordered; this conviction soon began to falter, though, as item after item fell short of the mark. It wasn’t so much that things were awful; they just lacked any real spark. The vegetable soup? Fine. The range of salads? Fine. The hummus? You guessed it, fine. Even the banana cookies and the simit, one of the most particular favourites, were found wanting.
Yet, even amongst this avalanche of adequacy, there were still some that dared to be different, buck the trend, and be actually classed as excellent. These edible heroes came in the form of an outrageously gooey brownie and, rather unexpectedly, the delightful coconut snack bar.
I know that this place is better than this showing, but I can only judge based on what I was presented with. Whether the delayed transit had an effect, I don’t know, but it’s a case of lesson well and truly learned: if I am to get the best of what this chain has to offer, I need to go and get it myself.
UPDATE: The customer service team contacted me about my missing soup and delivered it that day. Worth the extended wait? Possibly not, but it was rather good.
