Cheap and tasty

The food was cold, but I came just before they closed, keep that in mind if you like warm food, other than that really good food, good price, friendly and english speaking staff.

Hidden Gem for Affordable & Delicious Vegan Thai Cuisine!

While searching for another vegetarian café, I stumbled upon Ming Kwan while strolling through the streets of Chiang Mai, conveniently located near my stay in the week of 17th February.

This restaurant offers a huge variety of buffet-style vegan and vegetarian Thai dishes at incredibly reasonable prices. I enjoyed a tummy-filling meal of Veg Noodle Soup with crispy Veg Spring Rolls for just 60 Thai Baht! The flavors were fresh and authentic, making it a must-visit for budget-friendly plant-based food lovers.

Pros: Affordable & Generous Portions, Great Variety of Vegan Thai Cuisine, Convenient Location

Best little spot in town

I came here many times during my stay in Chiang Mai. Can be a little confusing at first with a language barrier, but if you just walk up to the counter and greet them nicely they are happy to help. I usually just asked for “rice plate”. They get you some rice and then you can pick what else from the buffet that you would like! Everything was delicious - be adventurous!

Awesome

Had a plate of Khao Soi for 50 baht. Hard to compete with that. Will come back!

Visited Ming Kwan vegetarian restaurant today, 10Jan2025 for breakfast. Many varieties of vegetarian dishes are available for selection to go with plain rice. Individual rice/noodle sets are available too. See pictures.

We ordered the veg noodle soup (THB50/SG$2.0 each bowl), fried wan tan/dumplings (20THB for 10 pcs/SGD$0.80) & fried spring roll (10THB/S$0.40) which are delicious. Refillable clean drinking water and ice are available free-of-charge here.

The veg food here is allium free - very good. The staff is friendly. We’ll come back for other dishes. Highly recommended #Veganuary

Came back today; 11Jan2025 for their Veg Kao Soi. It’s delicious and cheap (THB50/SG$2) 😋👍🏻

Nice Cheap Food

Just called in here for my last meal before leaving Chiang Mai, and the food was fantastic. Not sure what it was called what I had, as it’s ordered from a buffet style, but it was so tasty (so spicy too). Staff didn’t speak English, but we’re still so warm and friendly.

My meal (see picture) cost 40 BAHT (£1). I had one portion of rice, and the other dish was two portions for reference.

Update: still amazing December 24

Best Khao Soi Ever

The buffet was okay but the winner was definitely the Khao Soi. I’ve had a lot of Khao Soi but this one was the best I’ve ever had while simultaneously being the cheapest! Can’t go wrong, get your vegan/vego butts down there and grab a bowl of Khao Soi for 50 Baht!!

Look what they have

Small, nice shop. In the evening there wasn't much choice (you point to the food you want. Rice is served with it). Everything together cost 50 baht. The food tasted OK. Not everything was tasty, but we had a small selection. You definitely get full for little money.

Well, the food I had was edible. But not really tasty. The selection was also very small. The service was not good either, as they didn't explain how the concept worked and what exactly the food was... I should have perhaps made that clearer.

Traditions Jay restaurants

Very well located at the heart of Chiangmai’s old city. A variety of delicious premade options served over rice, Thai noodle soup and Khaosoi on request and a few other made to order options posted with pictures on the wall. The food is very tasty and clean, and probably the most inexpensive vegan food you can find anywhere in the area. Highly recommend. This is a Jay restaurant, no animal sourced ingredient used.

Excellent Thai food cheap!

The place is very simple and you just walk up to the buffet counter where a woman will fill your plate with your choices. I didn’t know the names of anything but the items included mushrooms, faux meats, noodles and lots of veggies. I got a large plate full of delicious Thai food (3 items) with rice and free water for 50 baht! The woman serving my dish said all of the food on the buffet is vegan. The food was very tasty but the temperature was just warm, not hot.

I came back again a few days later and had 2 items with rice for 40 baht. The price includes a side of spring rolls and you can add cilantro, hot pepper paste, fermented veggies as you wish. I think this is the best value for vegan food I have found so far in Thailand. It’s all simply delicious!

July 2024 - Back in Chiang Mai and I keep going back to Ming Kwan. The food is exceptionally good and such a great value!

Okay

They've got a good selection on the buffet. Our plates were okay, but for me way too salty.

Pretty good!

I enjoyed the veg spring rolls. The veg fish was not quite to my liking. Everything was very affordable and the space is clean. I didn’t love that an elephant sanctuary where you can touch, feed and bathe elephants was advertised all over the store.

Yummy veg buffet

Lovely food, some spicey, some not, nice spring rolls & tofu 'fish'. You can get a plate of brown rice with different veg dishes, spring rolls, wonton & more for 50-90 baht depending on what you take (I do always order a lot!). They usually have a choice of 8-10 different dishes, often including a potato-based curry, a green bean dish, a green aubergine dish, some kind of noodle dish & stir-fried greens. The portions are generous & everything seems to be vegan except the noodle dishes which I didn't order as they appeared to be egg noodles but you'd have to check. They also serve Khao Soi hot, in a separate pot away from the buffet, which is usually made with egg noodles. Water is available free of charge.

In the centre!

They do have good location - convenient.

There are many choices - for rice with 3 items I have paid 65 baht.

Nevertheless I did not like what I chose😅 rice and mushrooms were tasty, but pumpkin and ala tofu - not.

Cheap Vegan Lunch

Small mom and pop shop that sells Thai and Chinese vegan entrees from rice to noodle dishes.

We tried their Khao Soi Yen Tofu Noodles (both were about 40 baht) which they assembled in front of us. They rely on tofu and mock meats which is a treat every now and then. I enjoyed both of these noodle dishes although they weren't the best I've had in town.

For the price you pay and convenience, it's a haven for vegans and somewhere worthwhile to check out.

Best Curry and super cheap vegan

All dishes are vegan, super Curry is not spicy, but others meal you should ask. We visited Ming Kwas three times. Good choose was also tofu stir fried Banana leaves. All restaurant is Vegan, but some packed cakes are with eggs. Restaurant is located in wide center of Chiang Mai. A Lot of local also go here for a meal. We also buy dry bananas as snack.

Very cheap food

A standard Thai eatery with very low prices. Taste is good and all cooked food should be vegan, but beware of the products on shelves, many of them contain animal products. Food gets completely cold in the afternoon. Tofu with mung beans was delicious.

Pros: Extremely cheap

Cons: Food gets cold, Not vegan, beware of shelf products

Local

Came here for lunch. It’s buffet style with rice and you can add sides. We got a glass noodle side and some greens. Decent but Ming Zhen is better. Cost was 40thb for rice with 2 sides. The price for the plate lunch isn’t really posted. You go up after you eat and pay. Has water. Cash only

You can order off the menu or get rice and mains. I usually get 3 mains with no rice and it’s 45 baht and so much food. Plus free water.

Pros: Various dishes , Fast, Good price
