Gelateria, sweets, and beverage bar near Ueno main station. Known for its traditional anmitsu which are small cubes of agar and red algae jelly, red bean paste, or fruits. Has juices, but the ice creams are made from dairy. Open Mon-Sun 10:30am-9:30pm.

Chouette

Une enseigne avec options véganes surtout fréquentée par des japonais ! La communication peut être difficile si l’on ne parle pas japonais et il n’y a pas écrit clairement vegan sur chaque chose mais de ce qu’on comprend tout ce qui ne contient pas de la crème sur les photos du menu ou de la glace est vegan. C’était très bon et belle ambiance. Prix entre 600 et 1000 yen environ pour des desserts / goûters.

Very tasty! Good if you know japanese

Great selection of vegan alternatives. Anything without the ice cream is basically vegan as it's made from rice and beans.

I recommend that you speak japanese, or at least somewhat as it is easier to communicate.

This is a chain so you will find this place in Akihabara, Tokyo station etc.

The top one is with ice cream, but there's plenty without. The bottom one is warm mochi (sticky rice) and red bean soup at Mihashi in Tokyo

Bad

I tried to consult using a translator but was rejected because the shop assistant did not speak English.
Finally I left without being able to prove anything.

Helpful staff

There were a few vegan options and the staff checked what was suitable for us (also have peanut allergy).
Not my fave sweets but I think that’s just personal preference!

Unique dessert

The staple anmitsu was quite good. Sweet but not too sweet.

I wanted to try some of the other offerings, but some items were not available for carry out and we were getting sleepy.

I recommend going at night and checking out the bustling shops and restaurant area nearby.

Edit: I went back with my family and ate inside. It was quite nice. There is an
English menu. This time I had the kuzumochi which was quite nice. They bring you green tea when seated.
