great spot

This is a really Nice place in the city centre. Both the atmosphere and food are great. Also very reasonably priced! (10 euros for main dish, 3,5 for delicious chocolate cake)

Pros: all vegan, great atmosphere, very friendly

strongly recommended

we found this nice little café by chance and were amazed by both its food and atmosphere, and also its choice of craft beers. the vegan ice cream is the best I've ever tasted - worth the money! very friendly people, too.

Awesome!

Everything is vegan - even the milkchocolate icecream. Dishes are fairly priced, tasty, made with love and served with a smile :-) Cute and cosy little restaurant. Non-pretentious.

The girl who worked there that evening handled it all on het own: orders, preparing the dishes, provided info, served the dishes and took care of the music. She was a pro!

brunch

Je kan lokaall ook terugvinden op dok te gent waar ze een fantastische brunch geven, veel veggie en vegan. Op dok is het gezellig buiten zitten, veel mogelijkheden voor jonge kinderen om te spelen

Lovely vegan place

This completely vegan place is lovely and light. They cook with the things which are grown locally, so the ingredients of the menu are different every week. I loved my quiche and my hubbie loved the gratin, the taste was both very pure and good. The kombucha which was made locally and the beers were also nice, so were the cakes (see photo) made by the brother of the owner. I would advice to make a reservation if you can.

Pros: Completely vegan, Nice atmosphere, Friendly staff and nice music

everything was vegan

Nice restaurant with lots of greens on your plate with your main course. This makes for a tasty and healthy meal. I loved the fact that there was some experimenting going on with the cooking. Always great when somebody likes to take food to another level and keeping it healthy and simple.

cool vibe

Nice place.
I ate a vegan "gratin" (no cheese or substitute for it) with seitan, sweet potatoes, salad... Healthy and delicious. However, I felt like I paid a bit much for the quantity (10 €, portion as relatively small).
Friendly service. I was told the place was completely vegan... (does this page need an update?)

Not our cup of tea, very cheap though

This is from a visit in 2015.

Sandwich with brussels sprouts and hazelnut cream, 6€ was nice, but rather small portion.

Gratin with carrots, parsnip, red beet, 6€ was a huge portion. But soaked in wine and monotone.

We were here on a very cold Winter day, and just couldn't get warm inside. Very uncomfy chairs. Sanitair in need of renovation (I was afraid ending up with the water tap in my hands).

Selection of teas availble, but we just wanted to leave.
The place was just not our cup of tea.
But it is very cheap!

Pros: very cheap

Cons: comfort, dish soaked in wine

Food made with love and attention

I had a quiche with salad and it was delicious. I'm not one to be enthusiastic about a salad usually but this was beautiful, varied and tasty. We also had tea in really cool teapots with a button to flush the tea away from the leaves when finished brewing. This is the first cafe I've ever been in with a turntable. Enjoyed the chilled out tunes on a quiet afternoon with a sleeping toddler.

Pros: Fresh and lovingly prepared food

great lunch place

Prices are really reasonable, a lot of vegan options available. Super healthy and delicious even if it's not super fancy. Perfect for locals on their lunch break I would say :)

Healthy Vegan meal

First time there, and left happy. Limited menu, but interesting choices, and obviously fresh ingredients used. Went for the gratin which was an interesting mix of vegetables and rice with soft flavors. Like a good home-cooked meal but with those extra touches you usually don't get around to adding at home.

Dish size/portion is satisfying. Not too small, not too big ( healthy)

Very friendly service. Prices surprisingly low,

I like that they had an active facebook page, allowed us to have a look into the place beforehand. ( https://www.facebook.com/LokaalGent/?fref=nf )

Pros: Healthy, Price, Chill place.

Cons: Small interior, limited seats available -> may wan

Lovely vegetarian (but mostly vegan) spot

Went here with two friends and was pleasantly surprised by this fairly recent addition to the vegetarian scene in Ghent. All ingredients are locally produced, before they're creatively turned into a selection of different dishes. It speaks for Lokaal, I think, such vastly different dishes are created with the same selection of ingredients - a quiche, soup, salad, gratin,... The (vegan!) cocoa-apple cake was delicious, too.

The atmosphere of the place is lovely, with plants and original light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, and music from a record player next to the kitchen. I noticed they take reservations, which might come in useful as there aren't too many tables. The owner was very friendly and accommodating, too. When my friend mentioned she is allergic to nuts, he was happy to cater to her and made sure her dish did not come into contact with any nuts whatsoever.

Portion sizes were fairly small but very decently priced. I'd say it's the perfect place for a healthy, delicious and ethical lunch. I'll definitely come back to try some of their tea!

Pros: Cosy interior, Locally produced food, Inexpensive

Cons: Fairly small portion sizes, Not so many tables

Tasty fresh organic food in unique location

Lokaal is located in a tiny spot at the beginning of 'The Glass Street', better known as the red light district. The area is a mix of hip and fancy shops/restaurants with shabby spots, always lively.
The little restaurant is decorated with self-made and second hand stuff, very cozy.
The owner spins vinyl records.
There's a lot of attention given to sustainability.

The food is fresh and tasty, with local ingrediënts from Gent. The menu doensn't offer that much choice but each item changes regularly. The prices are really cheap.

No Lipton here, but lovely cups of fresh herbal tea. I recommend the Serenité.

Pros: Very cheap, Great atmosphere and unique location, Tasty food
