Fantastic! If you haven’t gone…GO!! - Edit
I waited a little while after they opened before I visited so they could get their sea legs. I’m so glad I did! We went on a Saturday right when the opened at noon and got to talk to our host and ask questions. We are a limited meat eater (poultry/seafood) and a vegan-leaning vegetarian - it was so nice to be able to have anything on the menu! We had

Superb!! The pasta was perfectly al dente, the seitan was firm and flavorful, and the pizza was convincing for my omni husband! The prices were reasonable for food that was actually homemade. We were very pleased and will be back.
Pros: Varied menu, Lots of drink choices , Everything was delicious
Cons: Parking , Bathroom is outside and around the building , Cocktails were a bit pricey

The vegan pasta place I've always wanted - Edit
Ever since going vegan I've wished for a vegan Italian place, as pretty much every omni Italian restaurant has literally nothing for me (every pasta has meat, cheese, and/or eggs, even the salads all have cheese). Hence, when I visited Portland I knew I had to try Lilla. We had to walk 30 minutes to get there as the Starlight Parade canceled the bus Google maps told us to take, but it was WORTH IT.
Read moreWe got the potato croquettes as an appetizer and they frankly blew my mind, probably the most delicious thing I had on my whole trip. I got the carbonara (mostly out of curiosity for how it would replicate the egg sauce) and my partner got the basil pesto tagliolini. Both were very good, but I wish I'd tried the Bolognese ragu in retrospect. For dessert we had the Semifreddo which was a delightful send-off. I can also recommend the house-made maple almond cream soda.
The prices are a little high, but it's a perfect date night and you can't find places like just anywhere!
Pros: Amazing food, Creative vegan twists on Italian classics
Cons: Location is in a somewhat run-down area, A little pricey

There hasn’t been anything remotely close to this in terms of quality and presentation since Portobello. The vegan italian place we’ve all been waiting for. Great vibes, modern interior, and high quality food to back it all up. Highest recommendation.

Great Italian Pizza - Edit
We had the Carbonara and Pizza Margherita and enjoyed both. Pasta was decent, a little too smokey for our taste, but the pizza was delicious! True Italian flatbread, just like we had in Sicily - so yummy!

I can no longer in good conscience recommend Lilla - Edit
They told us in order to accommodate our food sensitivities that they would require advance notice, which we were completely on board with. I ate here twice observing this arrangement. We made a reservation, during which time the sensitive items were ordered in advance as well, per the mutual agreement. The other piece of the arrangement is that we would include an email to let them know on multiple levels that a reservation had been made with a rather large food order.
Read moreWe checked all these boxes for a birthday party and in part, shaped our visitors food fun around this excursion. We called a week in advance to reserve the table and food and emailed the same day. They called us an hour before the reservation to cancel. They blamed the staff member who took our order/ reservation. They blamed us. They blamed a catering event they had. To blow off a reservation an hour before coming is outlandish and breaks the mutuality of agreements set in this environment. This behavior is unconscionable and left us out in the cold rain and snow. Their disdain they showed us in this was so disrespectful. They basically told us to F off without using the language, and this was a 180 from the mutuality we had established (it isn't as though we expected food for the first time, we had established a rapport and mutuality). If they needed to break the reservation, advance notice would be the decent thing to do, and doing so with a sliver of decency would have been the right thing to do as well. You can't treat people the way they talked to us in breaking the reservation, it was further uncalled for.
[Insert Seinfeld: That's what a reservation is!]

Cons: uncalled for attitude of derision, broke a week-long reservation an hour prior, inappropriate on multiple levels

Italian WOW! - Edit
This is best vegan Italian food I have ever had. The polenta starter is so delicious and flavorful. The gnocchi with sausage was outstanding. The gnocchi was perfectly fluffy and pillowy. The sauce has incredible depth of complex flavors. Small space and well appointed. I loved it.

Vegan Italian food! - Edit
So nice to have a fully vegan Italian restaurant. I agree with some of the previous reviews about the cook on the pasta, but that’s more personal preference. Everything I’ve ever tried has been awesome, but the risotto with squash was absolutely drool worthy!

Very good but not incredible - Edit
Lilla is an interesting spot. I was visiting Portland from the coast, and was delighted to have some vegan Italian. Service was a little slow and the prices felt a bit high, but all the food was very good. I highly recommend the potato croquettes- I could eat a bucket of them! The Panna cotta was excellent as well. We tried the Alfredo and pesto pastas for mains which were both pretty good.

Good Concept - Edit
Rare to find a fully vegan Italian restaurant. There was a little confusion with pickup as we ordered online (3 pasta dishes) and the wait said 55-60 minutes. We didn’t think that could be right so we called to ask and the guy who answered the phone said that was wrong and it would be ready in 25-30 minutes. We got there about 40 minutes later and went in to pick up the food and the guy said it was set for 55-60 minutes online so we’d need to wait another 10-15 minutes. Food ended up being ready after 53 minutes which was fine, but we wish we didn’t get conflicting info on the phone. No big deal just something to share.
Read moreAs far as the food goes I think it was really good. We ordered the carbonara, Alfredo, and marinara with no sausage. Carbonara had a strong flavor of ham but it was good. Alfredo was good but just tasted like pasta with butter. Marinara was very good. Overall the food was good! Portions are not too large. #Veganuary

Arrived excited, left disappointed - Edit
I was SO excited that an all vegan Italian place had finally come to Portland. I wasn't sure what to expect based on most of the reviews being either really good or really bad. Well, in our group, it depended on what each person got.
Read moreI got the chicken parm, which was insanely salty and I LOVE salty food. The pasta was absolutely terrible. It was so tough and chewy. It wasn't al dente, it was clearly way overworked dough. I didn't eat more than a few bites of it and everyone else at the table agreed it was bad. The marinara was fine, but nothing special.
Fried mushrooms were disappointing. They looked really good in customer pics, but ours were all little broken pizzas, over-fried and kind of tasteless. The "dill aioli" that came with them didn't taste like dill at all - it was bland. It also came with marinara but the portions of sauces that came with the shrooms were laughably tiny - like shot glass size for a big bowl of mushrooms. Weird.
The pizzas were very good. Their crust is amazingly good.
The butternut squash was dynamite. It was also well-salted, but not overly so.
My wife really like the Brussels sprouts salad, too.
The decor and is odd as others have said. I would prefer less "modern casual" and more traditional Italian, but I'm not knocking off stars for that.
The hostess/server (with the blue hair) was very sweet. She was running the whole front of house by herself.
Sadly, the kitchen service was not good. My chicken parm came out pretty quickly, but the server said the chefs were having problems with pizzas (which is what 3 out of 4 of us got). It literally took another 30 minutes for them to come out. So the rest of my group stared at me while I ate my salty, gross chicken parm.
I really wanted to love this place, but not sure I'll go back. If I do, I'll stay away from the pasta, which is a super bummer because fresh vegan pasta is tough to find around here.
Pros: Pizza crust, Butternut squash soup, Front of house service
Cons: Pasta, ew, Kitchen service, Fried mushrooms

Why didn’t anyone think of a vegan Italian place already ?? It seems like a no-brainer, and we are glad Lilla went with it. The dishes are familiar and fulfilling. The portions are just right. The space is cozy clean, but unpretentious. The house-made sodas were delightful. Buon appetito !

Don't believe the bad reviews, Lilla is my partners' and I's favorite fancy date spot. It has never let us down. Food and service are always incredible. When I die, I want to be stripped naked and dipped in their marinara sauce so I can enjoy it in the afterlife like a pharaoh.

Bland and boring - Edit
Cool that Portland has a vegan Italian place, but unfortunately the food here is not very good. The marinara is pretty plain like what you could get from a supermarket and the pizza was super bland. When we came they only had one server and the service was super slow and inconsistent. Won't return.

The whole time I was enjoying the Carbonara, I was taken back to my family's recipe that I enjoyed for so many years. The slight gristle of the bacon, the egginess of the noodles. It was incredible! The polenta mushroom appetizer also impressed with some fantastically deep umami flavor. And the artichoke bruschetta was a beautiful combination of flavors.

So great to find a vegan Italian place as we're so used to making our own pasta dishes which just aren't the same. After reading through reviews I went for the pesto pasta and was not disappointed and my boyfriend had the carbonarra which was lovely and creamy and tasty. My Omni friends hate it when I say this but I'm convinced no one would know it was vegan... To me it tasted just like pasta in Italy!

Great food and great prices - Edit
Really delicious food! It was hot and fresh and homemade. I had the fried mushrooms and carbonara. The tomato sauce with the mushrooms was delish and I believe they fried them in cornmeal for a nice texture. The carbonara was rich and smokey and the pasta cooked perfectly. It’s sad that they’ve had to cut prices in an attempt to bring people in BUT it’s unheard of in this town to get an entree for less than $25. Hand crafted pastas are $11-$15 and full pizzas are $9-$12!! I hope the community starts pouring in so we can keep Lilla around.

Finally, all vegan Italian! - Edit
I’ve been on a quest to find a vegan Italian spot and am so happy Lilla opened up. We started with the fried mushrooms. Very yummy. The gnocchi Bolognese was solid and the bucatini carbonara was great with the past cooked nice and al dente. We will be back soon for sure!
