Great but a little salty (updated) - Edit
The sampler is a great deal, and there are some really interesting wines available. A few of the items were a little on the salty side but others were really beautifully seasoned so it could have just been an off-night.

Always a favourite - Edit
My wife and I went here on our first date in 1997 and are so happy it’s still open. We’ve been back a few times since, when we’re in Montreal, as it holds a special place in our hearts.
Read moreAte there last night and seems to be better than ever. Adorable staff, great drinks, and the food is so tasty! We skipped the vegan platter and just got our two favourites (the red lentil one and the cabbage-potato one). Yum! Tried some appetizers this time too - sambusas and pureed eggplant (comes with injera). Left full and satisfied!
There’s also a vegan tasting menu that looked like a great choice for a newbie!

Fancy Ethiopian restaurant - Edit
My go to restaurant when I'm craving Ethiopian food. They offer a vegan tasting menu for two people and a vegan platter.
Read moreEven though I usually get takeout, I recommend dining in: the way the food is served is part of the experience. Also, since the place is quite pricy, you might as well enjoy the nice decor and atmosphere!

Everything I hoped for! - Edit
When I went to Montreal on vacation I was very excited by all the vegan options. I only had a couple of days, so I couldn’t try everything. This place was at the top of my list! On the pricier side, but absolutely worth it for a treat. I’d never had Ethiopian food before, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but it was flavorful and there was a nice variety and all came with injera. Vegan options are clearly marked, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated.

Excellent - Edit
You can choose a combo or a sample for 30 dollars, so you can try a little bit of many dishes. It is pricey, but as we can not find easyly Ethiopian vegan food everywhere, it worth once in life.

Nice food, bad service - Edit
Great Ethiopian food in the heart of Montreal. The vegan sampler for two is the perfect way to try a variety of the flavors they offer. From the entrees the hummus with eggplant was absolutely amazing.
Read moreOverall everything was very tasty, however, I felt like their lentil and veggie dishes could have been more flavorful. The injera that came with our meal was also cold to lukewarm rather than steaming hot like it should have been. I also felt like the portions of lentils on the main plate were a bit small. However, I enjoyed the meal and would return.
Service is on the slow side. At least for lunch they seemed a bit understaffed.
Pros: Good food
Cons: Slow service, Unfriendly staff

High Quality Flavours - Edit
Reservation was ready early when visiting on a long weekend in Canada. Service had water on table already and took our order immediately. Service assisted us with menu choices. Seating was very comfortable, and music was a perfect volume, not too loud, not too low. We ordered the Vegan tasting menu. The appetizer was, bouticha, yetimatim, caramélized veggies with Ethiopian spices. The meal was yatakelt watt, yekik alicha, yemesser watt, bedrgan, gommen. My favourite was yatakelt watt with cabbage. The wraps are great too (injera). There was a high variety of quality flavours. I will go back!

Great Food! - Edit
I went there for my birthday with family and friends and ordered a vegetarian group plate for me and also 2 other persons who wanted to try it. The server somehow made a mistake in the order and gave us a meat plate! I ask to change it but the server told me that it was long to prepare and asked me if I really wanted that vegetarian plate?!? I said yes! We finally received our vegetarian plate a bit later, it tasted very delicious! But that order misundertanding was awkward.

Delicious!! - Edit
So many wonderful flavours! I love the little breads too. If you're going with a large group and you're the only vegan/vegetarian, just remember to let them know when ordering that you don't want your dishes on the same platter at the meat dishes, because the concept is that everyone shares from the same platter. It was a while ago that I went, so maybe they now make sure to separate the veggie and meat stuff, but better to ask and be on the safe side.

What is amazing is that you can eat with your hands with the help of some sort of bread/crepe they made. It's fun to try.

Very delicious, very fancy - Edit
If you are vegan and want to try Ethiopian food, the Nil Bleu is the place to go to. The waitress told us all the vegetarian dishes were vegan and we all had the vegetarian platter, which consists of 4 Ethiopian specialties served on injera bread with a small salad. Everything was served on one enormous plate that we shared, the food was separated in four sections (one for each person). You can ask for all the injera that you want. Everything was yummy, but I liked best the yemesser watt (lentils) and the yatakelt watt (potatoes, carrots and cabbage). We were all very full after the meal.
