Perfection, feasting on works of art. - Edit
Land is the ultimate restaurant, everything is perfection. The flavours and ingredients are like nowhere else, extraordinary and wonderful. Each dish is literally a work of art, every one with a totally different set of colours, shapes and textures, confections for the eyes and mouth in equal measure. We’ve been dining at Land since 2022 and each visit has been a fabulous experience. We travel a 5 hours return trip to Land and our effort is unhesitatingly worthwhile. Flawless service from knowledgeable, highly professional staff. Beautiful details, nothing has been missed. Superior in every way to plant based food offered by every Michelin* restaurant I’ve tried. Land has only one rival I know, Gauthier in London. Alex Gauthier DOES hold a Michelin* for his wonderful vegan restaurant in Soho and deservedly so. Land is its absolute equal, however! Each time we’ve dined at Land, whether 5pm on a Wednesday or lunchtime on a Saturday, every table has been occupied. Land is an outstanding example of just how truly stupendous, plant based dining can be, given an evident insistence upon the quality of each component and of course, the exceptional skills and imagination of genius chefs at work.
Read moreThis is fine dining and it feels like a privilege to be able to eat here. The expertise, time and care taken, would cost more elsewhere, the prices are very reasonable, a Michelin* equivalent experience, without the price tag.. and MUCH better food.
A further big plus I’ve noticed is its excellent accessibility to all areas.
Pros: Stupendous quality dishes, exquisitely presented., Flawless service from great staff, Excellent value
Cons: I only wish it was closer to where I live!

Enjoyed the experience - Edit
It's been on my list for an age and only became a reality because a friend was gifted a voucher. It was nice to dress up and be treated like royalty (waiters push chairs out, drinks topped up, open the toilet door!) though I wouldn't pay to go back.
Read moreSome of the dishes weren't for us but then others were delicious.
I much prefer to choose from a menu rather than having to like what you're given.
It's a small venue and if you're placed close to the kitchen it wouldn't be as nice as experience.
Glad I know what all the hype is about now!

Just wow! - Edit
Our first fine dining experience and we were wowed! We had the Chef’s Menu with the Cocktail pairing and it was just perfect. The food was sublime, the flavours and the presentation were beautiful. Can’t understand the people who were still hungry. I’m a big eater and I was pretty stuffed by the end. Yes the portions are small but do take the time to taste them and really enjoy them. The cocktails were something else, beautifully described to us and they paired perfectly with each course. I was worried there would be too much alcohol but over the course of nearly 3 hours it was fine. I have never taken that long over a meal but I just didn’t notice the time, the gaps between courses was perfectly timed. Efficient and friendly service and a wee mention to the young guy on a trial shift who was so lovely and polite. I was lucky enough to have been gifted a voucher but I would happily pay to come again.

What a stunning tasting menu in the heart of Birmingham. Excellent wine list. Took my non-vegan parents who were also blown away. Will definitely go back!!!!!!

Not worth it - Edit
Food was great, but not worth what they're charging. Wine pairing was nice buy again, not worth the price. For £50 a person for a wine pairing, we didn't get what would amount to a full glass of wine.
Read moreWe were sat next to the kitchen. It was very loud, due to the small space and being next to the kitchen, servers base was right behind us, felt like there was no "privacy". Was bumped into multiple times by servers trying to squeeze their way beside me to pick up dishes.
Food was great, but portion and drink sizes too small, venue too small and loud and over priced. Save your money.

4/10 (May 2023) - Edit
We had the vegan 6 course taster menu. The food was an 8/10, but the main issue was that the portion sizes were absolutely tiny. As an example, one of the courses was a single asparagus spear (with sauce). I never thought it would be possible to be hungry after a 6 course meal, but we literally had to go and find another dinner straight after leaving as we were starving (and we're not even overweight). I understand the idea of a taster menu, but a £45 meal per person should never leave you hungry.

Not much to add to the other 5* reviews. I would say the description on Happy Cow that this is a "casual dining restaurant" is a bit odd ... nothing about the experience felt casual to me. Dress up and go for a special occasion!

Once in a lifetime experience - Edit
Writing this review a little late as we went in April, but I have to share how amazing this was.
Read moreAll fully vegan, curated seasonal menu. We went for my birthday this year and it was truly a fantastic experience. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but totally worth everything we paid for it. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The staff is very attentive and very kind. We got the wine pairing with each dish and that definitely elevated the experience. The wine expert was very knowledgeable and explained about the process of how each wine is made, why the chefs chose them, what is unique about them. Truly worth the price. A must for any vegan visiting or living in Birmingham!
Pros: Excellent food, Great experience , Thoughtful staff
Cons: Expensive , Space was a bit small

Amazing tasting menu - Edit
Wanted to try Land for a while and it lives up to the hype!
Read moreThe food is fantastic - the dishes are more robust than some of the photos might seem, with plenty of big flavours and imagination in them. Staff are welcoming and attentive.
Having a shorter tasting menu for £40 is especially exceptional value - my only regret is not having the full menu, which I'm fully planning on returning for!

Perfection - Edit
I went to Land on a whim after skim reading rave reviews on Happy Cow. Prior to visiting, I didn't realize that it was Michelin recommended or a fine dining establishment.
Read moreI seriously have to recommend this place. Beautiful, unique dishes that go above and beyond the usual plant-based offerings. I also think it is incredibly fairly priced for what is offered. For drinks, I tried the Dragons Blood cocktail and the plum sake. The sake was fruity, sweet, and hardly tasted alcoholic. So delicious.
You can either have the short menu which is 4 dishes and lasts 1.5 hrs, or the longer menu which is 6 dishes and 2.5 hours. The short menu was only £40 and more than enough food. This included 3 main dishes, 1 dessert, and 2/3 snacks. The portions seem small but I left feeling very satisfied and not full to discomfort. I liked the freedom of not having to decide for myself and tasting dishes which I might not opt for conventionally.
This is a brilliant restaurant and is a must-visit for any vegans in Birmingham. Number one on my recommendations without a doubt.

Vegan Fine Dining - Edit
Went here for my birthday in December and had the tasting menu. Everything was exquisite, with enough time between each dish to savour what you were given but then look forward to the next course. Plus 2 desserts will always have my seal of approval. Special experience for those looking to make great food memories.

We arrived here with no idea of what to expect - all I knew was it is the only vegan restaurant in Birmingham near where we were staying. So I was determined to visit!
Read moreWe were surprised to find out it is a vegan fine dining (should have read the description) but I was keen to support them!
You get a tart to start, bread with a cashew cheese, four ‘mains’ and a sweet at the end with the £40 course option or £66 for two extra ‘mains’. Personally, I was still hungry after the four course - none of the meals seemed to have protein so this may be why. I would recommend they try to add protein to the dishes. One dish was just two sprigs of asparagus with a sauce, so not very filling. I know it’s all about the flavour, which was amazing, with these experiences - but slightly bigger portions would be great.
I would recommend getting the 6 plate option rather than the 4 plate, if you are hungry.
Pros: Delicious, Beautifully presented
Cons: Very small portions, No protein

Utterly fabulous - Edit
Whilst planning a weekend to Birmingham, we were super excited to discover it had a vegan fine dining restaurant - and it didn’t disappoint. The meal started with two small bites, one with gochujang cauliflower and the other with peas. Out of the 6 plates from the tasting menu, the aubergine one was the standout - so many flavours! The confit tomato was a close second. We went with the wine pairing, one of which was a sake. The dessert Riesling was perfection - my partner went for a second glass with the petit fours, and I had a lovely moscato. Overall the meal was unforgettable and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

My friend treated me to the tasting menu when I went to visit and I was absolutely blown away! We have so much vegan choice down in London but I've never had a tasting menu like this. It was inventive, beautifully presented and SO DELICIOUS. Service was great, and the drinks were great. Would definitely recommend making a trip here!

Outstanding - Edit
This is the best meal I have ever had in the UK. I’ve tried various set menus in veg/vegan restaurants in London and this beats them all by miles. The flavours and presentation are excellent and I enjoyed every dish. We took the wine pairing which was good but not quite to my taste - it was still a good experience. I really recommend trying some cocktails as well as the one we tried was amazing! The 6 course set menu cost £66pp and we left very full. The price definitely reflects the quality of produce, the time spent on preparation of the dish, as well as the fantastic service, so I think it is very reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, it was really fantastic.

Very impressive 8 course fine dining experience with an extra little sweet treat at the end. Really enjoyed each course, some very tasty food! Very reasonably priced at £55 each for such quality food. Very friendly and attentive staff. Nice little touch having a birthday card on the table for me. Will definitely visit again so try the menu in a different season! They also have a Michelin star!

Not a good experience - Edit
An attempt at vegan fine dining that falls way short of the mark.
Read moreWent on Valentines day at 5.30. Service felt rushed as they obviously needed to turn the tables round quickly.
While the food was beautifully presented, the flavours just didn't pop like I expected, and a few things even bordered on unpleasant.
When my partner dared to mention she wasn't too keen on one of the dishes, the waiter made her feel like she didn't understand what she was eating and the menu was too challenging for her!
We have been to a lot of the Michelin stared and recommended restaurants in the area, so we know what fine dining is about, and while we may not have the best palettes in the world, we don't consider what Land has to offer to be outside our realm of understanding.
A very disappointing experience. One mandatory star for being fully vegan, and one for presentation.

We have to agree..when we first went to Land a year ago we were bowled over but the food and the whole experience..so we bought 2 vouchers , one for ourselves and one for myself and my cousin.
Read moreWe were so disappointed l The food was average and as you mentioned some very unpleasant. My cousin and I left some of two of the courses, one was absolutely awful, like the ‘creamy’ part of the dish had gone off . we very politely said when he asked the obligatory question after each course but there was little response from the waiter.
We also sent them a very polite feed back and had no response .
We won’t be going again ..
