Curries Contain Shrimp Paste Despite What Staff May Say

TMI Disclaimer: It's the next day and I'm currently writing this review from the bathroom. Yep, the curry had shrimp paste in it.

Went here for dinner last night and the waitress assured me multiple times, "we don't put shrimp in our curries." Sometimes people don't always consider the curry base, so I asked specifically if there was shrimp paste in the curry base they use. "No, there's no shrimp."

After eating half of the Panang Curry I ordered I was slightly suspicious. Then I noticed one of the walls was lined with curry containers so I took a picture to research later (would be cool to have at home if it actually was vegan, or I'd know to steer clear of this place in the future). I remembered the photo this morning when my stomach decided to angrily scream profanities at me for what I had done. Note: curry wasn't spicy, just have been strictly vegetarian for 22 years.

Anyways, I really hate to leave a bad review. The only time I'll do so is if there is blatant misinformation regarding ingredients that I think others with dietary restrictions deserve to know. I get that not everyone understands how to differentiate between "vegan," "vegetarian," "pescatarian" etc. but when it's an allergen that can cause anaphylaxis in those with shellfish allergies, that's incredibly concerning to me. I personally don't think I'd go back as I'm not sure I can trust this establishment when it comes to the types of ingredients used.

Aside: I wanted to try a different Thai restaurant and had read the previous review. I'm not sure if I have bad luck, but I continuously have unfortunate experiences when ordering vegan at Thai restaurants on island. The only Thai I feel comfortable with currently is Olay's Thai Lao Cuisine which has vegan options specifically called out on the menu (just avoid the appetizers).😄

Pros: I guess it's fine for pescatarians?

Cons: Staff isn't knowledgeable of ingredients , Possible confusion over definition of "vegan", Could pose a HUGE risk to those with 🦐 allergies

Cool lil thai place

Kind of thai boat noodles:

My wife noticed this place d we decided to check it out to see if we should add it to the app and i was not disappointed. They had a few naturally vegan options, but the wait staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Most of the dishes that aren’t vegan just need to replace the meat with tofu. The service is quick and the way they cook the tofu for each dish is different and all good in my opinion. I got the pumpkin curry which was very tasty, the fried tofu had a nice texture that you rarely see, and we had a pad se-ew that tasted pretty great as well. Might be worth a try if you like thai food and the options interest you. Parking is a little rough in the area and its a small shop with a good amount of seating. I am rating this a 3.5 to 4 because it tasted very quality and isnt something you would typically have as a vegan.

Improvements: a vegan section on the menu

Pros: Quality, Types of options, Helpful and quick wait staff
