The best teriyaki tofu you’ll ever eat in your life! - Edit
I’ve lived in JP my whole life and my family goes to this restaurant about once a week, it’s so good! The teriyaki tofu is vegan and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever tasted in my whole life, such a gem! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the teriyaki sauce is so flavorful, not your ordinary store-bought teriyaki. At dinner they serve a giant portion on a hot steaming plate with some vegetables on the side. I often order take out and it’s still pretty good by the time we get the good home, although a little less crispy than in the restaurant. They also serve teriyaki chicken, and my omnivore parents used to get that but the tofu is just so good they switched over to getting the tofu everytime! If you go at lunch you can get it in a bento box with avocado maki, rice, salad, vegetable karoke, ginger, and dumplings. Not sure if the dumplings are vegan since I think sometimes they change the fillings but they’re definitely vegetarian (ask to make sure if you’re vegan, the staff are very friendly and accommodating). And it always comes with a miso soup to start which is also vegan.
If you don’t know what karoke are, you’re in for a real treat. They’re like little fried mashed potato patties with peas and carrots inside, served with a tangy plum sauce. It’s also one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, I could eat four orders of them in one sitting! The seaweed salad is another amazing vegan starter, super fresh packed with flavor. They also have a good number of vegetarian sushi, but last I checked the tempura ones are not vegan because there’s egg white in the batter. Items are not marked vegan on the menu so just ask if you want to be sure. And the menu is pretty expansive so if you go with meat eaters or picky eaters they’re sure to find something.
Again, I love this restaurant with all my heart and anytime I meet someone in Boston who’s never been there I feel so sorry that they’ve been missing out on this amazing food all this time! I’d give it 5 stars if it were possible (4 is the max for restaurants that serve meat). Teriyaki tofu 4 lyfe ❤️
