A branch of Hiltl vegetarian restaurant, this one is in the old building of the main Zurich post office next to the main train station. Offers a vegetarian buffet in addition to fresh fruit juices, ice tea, lemonade, coffee, tea, and cocktails. Open Mon-Wed 7:00am-10:00pm, Thu-Fri 7:00am-11:00pm, Sat 7:00am-10:00pm, Sun 8:00am-10:00pm.

Excellent Quality and Variety - Edit
There is a lot of great tasting food in this buffet. There is a mix of dishes from Indian to Mediterranean to continental as well as a lot of salads. I really loved their artichoke-caper salad (and I grow artichokes in my garden, so I am picky about quality of artichokes in dishes). Yes, it's a bit expensive, but this is the kind of place to try out the creative or more expensive dishes (they had eggplant caviar, for instance) versus just to fill up, since it's pay-by-weight versus all-you-can-eat. The vegan dishes were mostly well-labeled, but a few (maybe 2 or 3 out of 70) labels (for the dishes) were either misplaced or incorrect, so be careful I do wish they were 100% vegan, versus just 100% vegetarian--they could easily go 100% vegan (and they did have vegan substitutes for some non-vegan but vegetarian items, such as a vegan egg salad--and, yes, I know not everyone likes vegan cheese...yet). It's worth going--and expect to pay around 25 Swiss francs for a full plate of food.

Ah--I forgot to mention--there are 2 Hiltl's very close to Zurich's main train station, and since this is on the ground floor (and outdoor seating too), this is probably the most convenient for those who just arrived at the train station.

I have been visiting this location of Hiltl at least 10 times and here is my summary
Read more- I end up eating too much due to large variety of options
- I end up paying too much since Hiltl and its main competitor are so crazy overpriced with average portion size
- I end up drinking 2 liters of water afterwords since food is so over salted and would be careful to eat here if you have high blood pressure
- I end up going here again many times a year but also because lack of good alternatives
- I like the terrace, its large enough to find a table even in a nice weather.
- After every visit I think that with that price why isnt more of their food organic and healthier instead of deep fried, over salted, non-whole grain.

I‘ve been there several times and I love it! I‘d say it‘s one of the most famous vegan/vegetarian restaurants because it has several locations and because it has existed since 1898!
Read moreI love that it has a buffet where you can choose from everything (most of it is vegan) and it‘s super delicious! Even though it can get a bit pricey when you‘re hungry I can really recommend a visit there!
My favourites are the „Züri Gschnätzlets“ and „Ghackets mit Hörnli“. And I love that they offer free water to drink.
Here, the location is especially nice, right next to the main train station.

Lots of variety in one of the oldest vegetarian 🌱 restaurants in Europe - Edit
What a great buffet of so many different things to try. All options are vegetarian 🥑 many vegan 🌱. It’s bi-langual so great for English speakers. My friend ordered a burger 🍔 at one of the Hiltl locations and was not impressed. I went with the buffet and was very happy. You pay per weight and of course in Switzerland 🇨🇭 the prices are a bit higher than what most visitors might be used to. We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere.

Tout donne envie , mais genre vraiment envie. Donc on veut tout goûter. Je ne pense pas que ce soit particulièrement ce restaurant mais la vie en Suisse d'une manière générale qui est plus cher. Donc, pour une assiette correcte, on se retrouve à 32euros... Pour quelques choses qui en vaudrait peut être une vingtaine en France. Donc c'est très bon, c'est juste surprenant pour un buffet.

Hiltl is known for being a vegeterian restaurant but they always offer vegan options. This location has a buffet with many vegan options clearly labelled. It is absolutely delicious as you can try a little bit of every dish. You can simply take a plate, fill it up with food and then you’ll weigh your plate at the cash register.
