Awesome fried vegan chicken sandwich - Edit
I can’t get over how thick their seitan chicken was for their sandwich! It had to be the best vegan chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. All the previous vegan restaurants (or restaurants with vegan options) it’s a thin chicken style patty, this one the other hand is a super thick and juicy cutlet!

Good selection of vegan options - Edit
Awesome food, friendly staff (we were served by Jordan who was super nice). I wanted to try everything on the menu!
Read moreI’d never heard of Fat Hippo before, I was meeting my BF in Liverpool and just browsing on google maps. He’s a meat eater and I’m vegan so this was a great find! We went Friday early evening, it was busy but the friendly staff found us a seat (also seating outside).
The menu was clearly marked up for vegan, vegan options available and vegetarian.
They had four vegan burgers and sides. A couple of vegan starters to choose from too. I had frickles (because I’d never had a fried gherkin before!) massive potion! Then the burgers came, they were EPIC! I had vegan Notorious VFC, a vegan chicken burger made with tofu (I think) with vegan cheese and tater tots. It was massive and tasty and I could only eat half! (Got a take away box to eat later!). We were both so full and needed a walk it all off. Also gutted we didn’t have room for the milkshakes (also can be made vegan). I’d love to return and try the rest of the menu, maybe I’ll take some friends so we can share it all…and try a mars milkshake!
Pros: Great vegan options , Menu clearly marked up vegan and vegan option , Really tasty and staff friendly

Has the menu changed? - Edit
We visited the Newcastle branch of this small chain about 6 years ago and had the best burgers ever, but when we visited the Liverpool branch this weekend it was just, well, ok, I suppose.
Read moreSo, 4 choices of vegan burger, I went for the Notorious VFC (see photo). It was just a dry ch*cken burger, in a bun, with a cheese slice and a bit of lettuce.
My daughter ordered the Sloppy Faux, it has apparently won an award for vegan burger of the year, but again, didn’t live up to the hype, they didn’t have the sauce that was meant to come with it.
Such a shame, doubt we will return, and will seek out a 100% vegan or veggie place next time.
Pros: 4 vegan choices, Staff were really friendly
Cons: Disappointing dry burger

Veel vegan opties! Keuze uit 4 vegan burgers, vegan loaded fries en zelfs vegan ijs. Smaak van de burgers was meer dan ok. Het ijsje was super lekker!

Quite disappointed - Edit
Had heard good things about Fat Hippo but was quite disappointed with the burger.
Read moreStaff were boss, friendly and helpful so can’t knock them. Good location and easy to find, inside decor was dark and cool.
Ordered The Oprah sin-free, double patty stack with onion ring. The chips and frickles were good but the burger bun was properly burnt on the inside (more than chargrilled) and the two burger patties were over cooked, dry and unpleasantly crunchy around the edges.
Pros: Couple of vegan burger options , Couple of vegan starter options , Vegan sauces
Cons: Expensive for burger and chips , No vegan desserts

Great burgers - Edit
Get huge burgers and starters, been to the one in Liverpool and Newcastle and great choices! Great for vegan groups and mixed vegan and non-vegan groups! They have a ‘happy hippo’ hour/s where you get a starter and main and a reduced price
