Serves meat, vegan options available. ENGINE SHINJUKU is a dedicated gluten-free and vegan-friendly Japanese ramen dining restaurant located right beside Hanazono Shrine and steps from Golden Gai. ENGINE's journey began in Kyoto when a father from the UK visited Japan with his daughter, who has severe celiac disease. Finding safe food for her was nearly impossible, prompting him to say, "I just wanted my family to eat together in Japan." This profound sentence became the foundation of ENGINE. This space was created so that travelers with diverse dietary needs, backgrounds, and beliefs could sit at the same table and share a beautiful moment. All food items can be made vegan, including authentic ramen and side dishes, as well as specially curated Japanese sake. All ramen dishes can also be prepared gluten-free. Open Mon-Sun 3:00pm-12:00am. Open daily. Last order at 11:15 pm.

Absolutely amazing ramen, I added an egg myself as I’m veg but it was a very flavourful broth (hard to come by here), lovely soy mince, bit of spice and excellent greens. Highly recommended!

Pas facile à trouver, mais une fois sur place, c’est un régal. Le restaurant propose 3 sortes de ramen vegan, et 3 délicieux sorbets vegan (expresso, orange sanguine et fraise). Une belle découverte pour les amateurs de cuisine végétale.

Awesome vegan ramen and more at Engine Shinjuku - Edit
Fantastic modern ramen restaurant in the first basement floor of the HAKUHO Building, Shinjuku Tokyo. I like that every location seems to have it’s own style/flair as well as its own ramen (so far I know Kyoto and now Tokyo).

I went there quite early and it was already packed. Luckily I was alone so that they found a place for me super quickly. When you go there with a group make sure to bring some time or make a reservation. It is definitely worth the wait.
I choose the 'ZESTY RED MISO TOFU-VEGAN' and was not disappointed. It was super delicious and really spicy which is more rare in Japan. Sadly I was already quite full so I took no starter or a vegan gelato for dessert which was looking very tasty.
Clear recommendation and not my last visit.

Il y a plusieurs options vegan, le prix est plus cher que pour les autres restaurants ramens, mais je crois que manger vegan à Tokyo ça n’a pas de prix. D’ailleurs les ramens sont vraiment excellent.

3 years ago we had dinner at engine Ramen Kyoto like 4 nights in a row. It was just so good. So now that we're back in Japan, we obviously wanted to try the one in Tokyo as well.
Read moreIt's in the basement of a sushi restaurant. They have a waiting list where you first have to get on. The problem was that there were already some people waiting in line to enter with their ticket. The staff just came out to shout the number of the next lucky client and then hurried inside again. So it took us a while to actually get on the waiting list (aka get a ticket).
Had to wait about 20mins on a Monday night. They have a lot of seats at the counter and a few tables.
Unfortunately we didn't like the atmosphere very much. Maybe we were just unlucky. It was loud. The staff brought us water and then kinda forgot about us (happened to others too). When I ordered, I asked for an apron which they later forgot. Staff seemed to enjoy talking and laughing with some of the guests but their attention and laughs felt so fake.
As for the ramen I ordered the Shinjuku GB vegan and while it was good, it wasn't as mindblowing as the one I used to have in Kyoto. So we kinda left disappointed.
Cons: Waiting list (hard to get on it), Staff kinda forgot about us, Staff was friendly, but overly fake friendly

This place was just amazing. I went with my meat eating family and they loved it as much as I did. Unfortunately visited on our first day in Japan and compared everywhere else to it afterwards.
Read moreI had a spicy ramen and was only able to finish half of it. There was so many veggies and soy meat and a full block of silken tofu with the noodles. Be aware though that the spicy option is indeed spicy. We were also given a spicy pepper powder which might go well with the non spicy options.
Service was top notch. Went without a reservation and went in right away, tho note that it got busier later and there was a long wait (go before 8 if possible). We did both a plum wine and a sake tasting, the staff were patient and welcoming.
Would 100% go again and so would my family.

Das Angebot ist für vegane/vegetarisch lebende Menschen lecker und abwechlungsreich. Alles war sehr frisch und gut gewürzt. Das Personal war dermaßen freundlich, wir fühlten uns geliebt.🙂 Es werden sogar glutenfreie Nudeln angeboten (Aufpreis 200¥) und es wird bei der Bestellung nach Allergien gefragt.

This place was fantastic, my partner is omnivorous- we have a lot of trouble finding good quality ramen places that will cater for vegetarian and those that need murder in their diet. The dishes were absolutely delicious. They also catered for further food allergies. Truely a wonderful find.

Wir waren inzwischen schon zweimal mit unserer 8-jährigen Tochter hier und sind jedes Mal begeistert. Als Veganer sind wir unglaublich froh, in Tokio dieses Restaurant gefunden zu haben. Im Nachhinein sind wir sogar etwas traurig, dass wir die Filialen in Kyoto und Osaka nicht ebenfalls besucht haben.

Besonders hervorheben möchten wir den herzlichen Service. Alle Mitarbeitenden sind außergewöhnlich freundlich und sorgen dafür, dass man sich sofort willkommen fühlt. Es fällt wirklich schwer, nicht wiederzukommen. Eine absolute Empfehlung!

Kann es nur weiterempfehlen. Es lohnt sich wirklich!
