Philly Cheesesteak - Edit
What a cool spot in a historic building right in downtown Halifax. The atmosphere has plenty of character, and it’s always nice to see a venue making good use of one of its city’s beautiful heritage properties.

As a vegan, I was thrilled to see so many plant-based options on the menu. We decided to try the Steak-Out Sandwich and the vegan nachos. The nachos were very good and perfect for sharing—I would happily order them again.
The real star of the meal, however, was the Steak-Out Sandwich. This vegan take on a Philly cheesesteak featured seasoned vegan steak, sautéed mushrooms, green peppers, and onions, all topped with melty vegan cheese and a delicious BBQ sauce. It was packed with flavor and absolutely legendary.
Between the affordable drinks, great service, historic setting, and excellent vegan food, this is an easy recommendation for anyone visiting downtown Halifax. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great for the kids! - Edit
We had vegan nachos with vegan cheese and vegan sour cream. Then vegan burgers (beyond burger), vegan tacos, and a vegan steak sandwich. Good for kids friendly food and drinks for the grownups!

Fave place in Halifax! - Edit
I love the Shoe Shop! They recently upgraded their menu (as of last week!) and they have some really great vegan options, including nachos, steak tacos, and the “steak out” (which is what I got). FYI: the bun that the steak out comes on is NOT vegan, but they were happy to offer me an alternative bread (they usually have hoagies but they were out so I got sourdough instead). Can’t wait to go back and try more items! 😻

Great pub with options! - Edit
The menu was labeled with vegan and gluten free options which is always a plus. I was hoping to get the vegan crispy chicken wrap but it wasn’t available. I had the beyond meat burger instead, and it was one of the better burgers I’ve had in a while! In addition to the usual burger toppings, there was tofu bacon and spicy mayo, which really added to it.

Beautiful Pub - Edit
So I can't judge Economy Shoe Shop on its food but I can say that it's a gorgeous historical building and an awesome pub and bar for social gatherings, dinners or drinks.
Read moreIt is a fairly noisy spot but I guess that's probably normal for bars. I was just in awe of the gorgeous stained glass, historical architecture and beautiful fixtures.
They offers a couple marked vegan options on their menu as well, including the Beyond burger. And the waitress was very good at answering my questions regarding other items on the menu.
They also make a mean Shirley Temple. :)
