Spacious store, friendly stuff & good organic bakery - Edit
The denn's store is very spacious, the vegan options are good, the stuff is very friendly, and the organic bakery Kaiser (Kaiser Biobäckerei)* at the entrance is very good and has many vegan options, such as vegan pastries.
*Organic bakery Kaiser (Kaiser Biobäckerei) at the entrance:
New sweet pastries spotted. Bought a Spelt Chocolate Nut Swirl (Dinkel Schoko-Nuss-Wirbel), which was one of the best sweet pastries I've ever had. A must try!
PS: On website biokaiser.de you can choose a product category, and then filter "Lebensstil" (lifestyle) - vegan. You can also click on the items to find the respective ingredients. All very transparent and helpful.
There is a little bakery which sometimes offers vegan croissants, which are delicious.
There are a variety of vegan cheeses, faux meats, plant milk products and other products you usually find in a supermarket. Prices are a little bit higher but everything is organic.
As far as I know, they don't have vegan cheese and are in general quite expensive. But it's a nice and big market and I think on Monday there's a students discount of 10%
Centrally located, Denn's offers fresh pastries and sandwiches from a counter which you can access from inside the store and out on the street. There is a large selection of cheeses and produce. The day I went the produce was underwhelming. But the dairy and non-dairy selections are vast. There is a wall of faux meat products. I selected a 'vegetarian mixed grill' and it was wonderful. It had 2 types of burgers and 4 meatballs on a wooden skewer. All were tasty. They have the typical tofu products in additon they sell tempeh, seitan and faux german meat products. There are aisles of pastas, rices and other grains. Canned and bottled vegetables. Organic products. Everything you find in a regular grocery store, you can find here. They have a large selection of lotions and health care products. I'm sure I'm leaving something out, but I will go there every time I'm in Mainz.
