Overrated restaurant - Edit
I had the Risotto which was good, but not to die for. Visiting Edinburg I thought this was a must, but in my opinion this restaurant is overrated. Maybe I did the wrong choice on the menu. I had the feeling this was going to be outstanding, but I could cook something as good at home. I am also afraid Ibam going to be hungry in an hour. You might want to give it a chance, but if you only have one place to try in Edinburg, skip it.

Classy & Delicious - Edit
My partner and I were deeply satisfied by this restaurant. The quality and presentation was amazing and everything tasted incredible. Highlights were the crispy homemade smoked tofu starter, mushroom bourguignon main and the chocolate brownie. My parter loved the gnocchi! #Veganuary

Boring menu, mediocre food - Edit
I feel like David Bann Restaurant has a lot of potential but refuses to be innovative, follow trends or take risks. The menu has a lot of (seasonal) vegetarian and vegan options, but it’s not special, nor creative. The price is definitely not worth the quality of food you’re getting. The food was 7/10 best.
Read moreThe restaurant is supposed to look like a fancy place for a fine dininy experience but just lack that scenery. The lighting is bad, the design is just,,, ugh.
The best part of the restaurant is probably the service. The staff was lovely and quick.
I would recommend spending your money elsewhere, especially if you want delicious food instead of mediocre.

You won’t be disappointed here! - Edit
So happy we tried this spot! Although more decadent style dishes. The staff were welcoming and the flavors were exquisite! A little more on the pricey side but worth it for a filling, nice meal out.

Absolutely delicious - Edit
Lovely staff, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of vegan and vegan gf options. Every dish was superb, the chef clearly knows how to create a perfectly balanced meal. The desserts were out of this world. Definitely worth visiting and worth every penny ( especially when we paid £20 more here than when we ate at a local vegan fast food bar!!!!)

Fancy pants - Edit
It’s not often you get a fine dining vegetarian restaurant, but this is smarter than average. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Half the menu is vegan or can be veganised. I felt they could try a bit harder with the vegan desserts. Note: the restaurant is in a phone reception black spot and there’s no wifi!

It is broke, fix it. - Edit
Bann's has been around for decades, and they're situated now fairly Centrally in an expensive city, so they must be doing something right, but whereas they were once a rare thing - a veggie / vegan restaurant- they are now just one of many, and they've been overtaken, somewhat. I stopped eating here years ago, after one too many disappointing meals. Returning now, for a work meeting, I was struck with how it was mostly the same old menu. I had the fairly bland mushroom soup, which was a 5/10, the incredibly salty stir fried veg, which was an incredibly salty 5/10 and the chocolate cake which was dry and 3/10. Dry chocolate cake is completely unforgivable. I can only presume it is made in batches and then frozen, which is a crime against baking.
Read moreBut, the restaurant was busy, so I guess other people still love it. I just want expensive, restaurant food to be worth the money, not merely average plates of regret.
Pros: Good staff, Clean, Good coffee
Cons: Food is flat and tired., So many better options out there., Same basic menu for 20 years.

Lovely setting with tasty but unimaginative food. - Edit
Very smart restaurant in the Old Town, but for an upmarket place specialising in veggie and vegan food the menu was strangely boring. Options like chickpea curry, stir fried tofu with noodles and various salads are what I'd expect to get in an omni restaurant or gastropub where vegan options are a bit of an afterthought. The menu leans more veggie than vegan too. However the food was well prepared and tasty, portions reasonable and service very good.

A lot of potential - Edit
All in all I liked the experience at David Bann restaurant. Half of the menu is vegan, the other half is vegetarian. They aim for fine dining and offer interesting and versatile options, unfortunately, they are a bit bland and drowned in oil. But the cocktails are really good and the service is excellent.
