Wish I had five stars - Edit
I know this isn’t a fully veg place BUT this is best food I had on this whole trip! The sweet n sour soy meat was phenomenal, I could eat it every day. So, I’d recommend that OR the set. The set came with a veggie salad, rice, soup, and tofu. Very filling and very delicious!

Not too shabby! - Edit
The food here was wonderful, and stumbling upon a vegan menu on a walk through Nara was a rare treat! The vegan set was delicious and covered all the bases while still remaining filling and cost-effective. The manager/owner was even kind enough to give us a coin to wish us a happy new year as we paid and left, which was a sweet touch.
Read moreIt was a tiny bit difficult to communicate, understandably. The main issue we had was with average service as it took us a very long time to be served: while I was more relaxed, my partner almost got up and left due to the initial wait time as waiters walked past our table several times without taking orders or glancing towards us, while still helping other guests. After our orders were taken, however, we had few difficulties and enjoyed our food! My omni partner also enjoyed everything he ate, though the prices were a bit high.
Pros: Delicious food, Filling, Good variety
Cons: Average service, Somewhat high prices

Craveable - Edit
This was a great find in Nara. I had no problem at all getting the vegan menu, there was a clearly visible stack of them right when we walked up the stairs and into the restaurant. I had the vegan lunch set which was delicious and filling. There are also numerous a la carte vegan options, but the set includes smaller (but still substantial) portions of almost all of them, so it’s perfect if you’re an indecisive orderer like me. Happy Cow states cash only, but they do take cards (there is a 5% surcharge though). My omnivore husband was really impressed with his non-vegan dishes as well. I wouldn’t call it cheap, but prices are reasonable by Japan standards, especially for the quality and portion size.

No vegan options and no vegan menu - Edit
I asked the waitress and she said no vegan menu. Used the translator and still the response was no vegan anything. Tried to figure out an option but every single item on the menu had chicken bone broth. It was a very long way to walk from Nara Park to not have anything to eat with my family. Found Cfarm Curry House and thankful they had a all vegetable based Curry.

Surprisingly decent dishes - Edit
We stopped here for lunch and a drink and they do have a separate vegan menu which is awesome! We had the cashew stir fry and fried noodle soup which were both pretty decent. Not the best vegan dish I’ve had, but the mock meat for the stir was great! It’s close to the train station and convenient.

Nice Chinese Food, Menu available - Edit
Cozy place in the 1st floor of an arcade building. I had two courses and 1 pint and came out at 2700Y.
Read moreStir fried soya meat with veggies and swear sour sauce was delicious. Spicy warm "soup" with tofu and chopped soya meat tasted good but I was expecting more. It was presented with a small fire to keep it warm, which looked nice (and worked).
Menü was mit only available, but hangs in A0 size in the front of the shop, put on the street. Stuff didn't speak much English but it wasn't really needed.
Pros: Good food, cosy restaurant
Cons: A little pricey

Inconsistent information - Edit
Like another reviewer, when I got here the staff had no knowledge of a vegan menu and were unable to tell us what was vegan on the menu. We left and went to Kururu, a hidden treasure.
Read moreThere have been other times in Japan where the bigger restaurants have some staff that don't know about vegan options even when we know there are some, so it's probably just the luck of who is working when you get there.
Cons: Staff had no knowledge of vegan menu

good vegan menu - Edit
I visited today for lunch. They did have a vegan menu when I asked for one, and the menu clearly stated that no animal products are used for any of the dishes on this menu. Food was good, staff was helpful.

They no longer have a vegan menu - Edit
We asked two of the staff and even showed pictures of the menu from happy cow and they said they no longer had it. I asked if any of the meals were vegan/could be made vegan. Waitress Suggested two meals, vegetable stir fry and vegetable fried rice. We didn’t want that so we headed to another restaurant on the same road - LBK craft that has plenty of vegan and vegetarian options clearly labelled.

Normal portations that everybody got full from (vegans and meat eaters), friendly staff, quick service, a service bell on every table. Staff spoke little but good English and understood vegan.

Fabulous vegan option Chinese food in Nara - Edit
We popped in here for lunch whilst touring Japan in August.
Read moreThe staff were friendly, polite and helpful, and the restaurant clearly gets the vegan thing as is made obvious by the clearly labelled (English included) menu. I've always loved Chinese food and this was by far the best I've enjoyed since going full vegan. Just beautiful. Try the sweet & sour tofu! I am sure you'll be delighted. And the price was pretty cheap.
Pros: Beautiful food, Friendly, Well priced

Very tasty! - Edit
Was very happy to find this place in Nara. There aren't that many vegan options to begin with, and there are NO vegan Chinese options, so finding this place was a treat.
Read moreWe had some sweet and sour "chicken", ma-bo tofu, and something lovely with cashews in it. It was all very tasty and not too pricey to boot.
The vegan menu is a separate menu from the "regular" menu, so that was helpful too.
I should add that the first time I visited this place, it was during the o-bon summer holiday. I say the vegan menu sign and immediately rushed in--BUT they said that during holiday season they don't serve items from the vegan menu. What a bummer! Honestly, I got pretty angry and wasn't too eager to return--but my craving for Chinese eventually got the better of me :)
Pros: Tasty, Separate vegan menu, A good number of options
Cons: Not cheap--but not that expensive either, No vegan menu during "busy season"

Loved it! - Edit
A gem in Nara. As the description says, there were several vegan options and unlike generally in Japan, they gave us our food to share. It was really good and reasonably priced. One note: the "main dishes" are relatively small (though full of flavor) so make sure to order rice separately as well to fill your stomach.
