Nice place

We ate here twice. We had dinner in the basement restaurant. They only have one vegetarian dish on the menu, which is a selection of various foods. Very nice, but not vegan. We also had lunch in the buffet restaurant. Not bad either, although the vegetarian and vegan options are limited unless you only eat salad.

Pros: Cheap. Lots of different people, both tourists and

Cons: Not many vegan options.

Amazing green venue

Buffet with vegetarian and (sometimes) vegan options. Big portions at a cheap price. The venue is in an inner yard, full of plants around you, feeling like in a garden!

Pros: big portions, variety of options, the amazing venue: inner yard like a forest/garden

Cons: not always have vegan options

Classic salad bar

Chimera is a well-known place with a history in Cracow; even my father remembers it from his student days. The place offers a salad bar and a more restaurant menu. The salad bar is definitely cheap and quick; you can choose from a variety of different salads and other dishes, such as a savoury broccoli pie/tart, which I really liked. They also have pierogi ruskie (dumplings with potatoes+cheese filling). However, the place isn't purely vegetarian, and the vegan options are very limited as well (I believe only some of the salads are vegan). If you only eat vegan, I think it's best to reconsider before going here, because it's quite difficult to find vegan salads in the bar and there are much better options in close proximity of Chimera.

Pros: well-known place in Cracow, cheap & quick

Cons: serves meat, very limited vegan options

Five o'clock tea

This is undoubtedly the best ever tea house in Poznan. It offers a variety of traditional and exotic teas. It opens late at night and then you can have a drink outside in a little garden at charming Żydowska Street. Excellent staff. Vegetarian snacks available.

Pros: tea choice, garden, staff

Ok for Vegetarian.

This place is really nice, located in old beautiful building near to main square. Prices are also good. The only thing is that for vegans they have just salads- rest of food contains eggs or milk, but i still like this place :)

Pros: prices, staff

Cons: just salads for vegan

Food like Welcoming: cheap

If you want just a salad, ok. Vegetables look fresh. But for végétarian meal : only pancakes with spinach and torts to "brocoli". All this food is almost cold. So it doesn't help for a good taste.

The welcoming is low. Depends on the server behind the bar. But for some you have to make your choice quickly...in holidays, for me it's too much.

Pros: Salad

Cons: Service , Choice

nice atmosphere

near the rynek (the most important and famous square) in a typical street with self-service, the staff speaks English. in winter very cosy in the cellar with a burning chimney and in summer you are sittinh in the court like in an old flamish painting - the great atmosphere was suprising me. good to relax and with many possibilites to choise polish food with salads, vegetable cakes etc.

Pros: fine food, good value

just a salad bar

some salads taste great, some are tasteless. all of them are cold though. pluses are you don't have to wait for your food and seasonal soups are awesome. i only saw one or two meat dishes in their menu so i think other reviews could be refering to the restaurant that is in the basement

Pros: good and cheap soups (1 euro), good selection of various salads

Cons: food is cold, only few salads actually taste good

Not for Me - Disgusting

Didn't even go inside. The sign outside said it all (see my picture). Why any vegetarian would eat along side people eating Geese, Lamb, Venison, Veal, Duck and Rabbit is beyond me. There are many omnivorous places in Krakow that have fantastic vegetarian menus, this is not one of them. Leave well alone unless you are happy with your food being prepared in kitchens full of meat.

Cons: meat, exotic meat, flesh

Still going strong

Chimera is still going strong, serving a large variety of vegetarian dishes in its buffet style bar. Staff speak English and vegetarian options are sometimes indicated, although harder for vegans. 16zl for a large plate or 12zl for a small. Good location and nice atmostphere.

Pros: Price, Quality

Chim chim for me

Ate here twice in three days, partly because it's just off the main square. It's not vegetarian as such but has a good choice of salads and a couple of hot veggie choices. You paid by the plateful - so much for a small plate, which would be piled high with four buffet choices, a bit extra for a large plate with six choices. It was all delicious. The restaurant itself has a very Bohemian feel to it with candles on tables laid out on a flag-stoned interior courtyard surrounded by greenery. Lovely atmosphere, partly down to the enthusiasm and good humour of the young staff. Baked potatoes directly from the top of a wood-burning fire just inside the door. Good range of fruit and vegetable juices as well as teas and coffees. English-speaking. Worked out that our basic meals and drinks cost us about £4 each!

Pros: Delicious food, Price, Happy staff

Cons: Not veggy

Excellent, fresh food with lots of healthy options

My husband (carnivore) & I (long-term vegetarian but who prefers to choose vegan food when eating out as get fed up with eggs & cheese) visited here on several occasions for lunch during our 5-day trip to Krakow (Oct 2008) from the UK. The vast majority of the food was vegetarian, and my husband & I both went for the "small plate" option of 1 hot dish with 3 salads; he chose vegetarian on each occasion. The dishes were delicious on each occasion, both the hot & the salad selections - it was quite exciting to have such a great choice of lovely fresh, healthy & imaginative salads, and drinks too, to create a well-balanced and delicious meal. Both of us would definitely recommend here. [We also happened to go to Green Way during our visit - definitely not the same range of fresh food there, there was a lot of pickled-tasting food which we had difficulty adjusting to, plus the "pretend meat" type of food which we don't particularly enjoy.]

Pros: Healthy options., Imaginative salads., Great choice.

a Krakow institution well worth the visit

Great salad bar with many vegan options. Warm and cold options, including many salads with sprouts and other healthy veggies, potatoes, broccoli torte, etc. Excellent fresh nettle juice, carrot juice, melissa drink, kefir coctails. A few things are not vegetarian, like 2 out of 20 salads and 1 out of six warm options. Non-smoking downstairs in the creative cave-like atmosphere complete with fireplace and baked potatoes free to add to your plate. Very nice. Outdoor cafe is lovely, now glassed in for winter. The owners know what people like. We eat there alot especially in summer. It is fun dining outside. In winter, the food is not hot, so we don't go much. For what it is, it is a great find.

Pros: excellent salads, fresh always, food sells out daily, nice atmosphere, no smoke

Cons: need hot food in winter, not completely vegetarian, but mostly

Chimera, Krakow

Definitely not 100% vegetarian. With other vegetarian places so close (Green Way is very near just off the other side of the main square) I don't see any point in a vegetarian going to Chimera unless other options are closed. They didn't seem to be the most clued up about veganism when I asked. Definitely better alternatives for veg*ns in Krakow elsewhere.

Pros: Central location, Not great for vegans

Cons: Not 100% vegetarian
