Falling, With Style

Ethereal is not a word I was expecting to associate with this breakfast outing, but on entering the cavernous dining space, there wasn’t really any other description that would adequately cover it.
Suitably impressed with my surroundings, I cast a longing eye over the spread that lay beyond, and I would love to say that it filled me with as much awe, but that, my friends, would be a lie. At the risk of sounding remarkably prissy, with this being a five-star establishment, I would have expected something far more lavish – certainly other such establishments in the city are much grander. However, looks can very much be deceiving, and when all was said and done, I would very much have learnt my lesson.
My first inclination that this was going to be a decent feast was when I finally laid eyes on the chiller housing the soya yoghurts; having these is always a massive boon, in my eyes, and I took full advantage of them, combining them with lashings of maple syrup.
Another gem was also lurking in the same section; the mango passionfruit chia pudding had an amazing punch of flavour that was wholly unexpected from such an innocuous-looking jar.
From here, things just got progressively better. Deep, rich sambar; delicate, light spinach fatayer; and umami-packed, meaty mushrooms all had me feeling very foolish for having doubted the credentials of this buffet.
As one might expect, the hash browns were another highlight, delicious as they were, but my highlights of the meal came from two very unlikely sources: the noodles and the idly. Normally I would class these dishes as merely auxiliary offerings, but here they were a cut above the norm.
Though I’d be hesitant to class this as a must-visit locale, I would definitely say that if you’re in the vicinity, you could do much worse, and I wouldn’t be upset if told I had to repeat the experience.
