Flavourful - Edit
Heads up: location is 2 nd floor of IKEA in a food court. Nice variety of Puerto Rican dishes, and a few sodas. The chef may be the owner, a small “mom“ shop making food out of love.

Perfect fried plantains and pinchos - Edit
Casa Borinqueña is next to IKEA upstairs in the food court. The pinchos (BBQ soy chicken on a skewer) and fried plantains were cooked just right. The salad was just greens I could have gotten at the grocery store with an unremarkable dressing, but it complemented the rest of the sampler platter well.

First vegan Puerto Rican restaurant in California - Edit
Built up an appetite browsing through Ikea next door, then crossed into Saluhall, a hip eatery on mid-Market where Casa Borinqueña can be found. The Puerto Rican (PR) stand gave major island vibes and reminded me of the food I would find in Little Caribbean, NYC, but vegan.
Read moreThe sample platter is the way to go with sweet BBQ skewers on a bed of rice and plantains. A PR meal wouldn’t be complete without tostones, topped with your choice of chik’n or beef. While you can get one of each, I have a slight preference for the chik’n. Wash it down with a Malta India, a popular carbonated malt drink from PR. Despite its name or bottle shape, it’s non-alcoholic. It was a nice touch that Casa Borinqueña carried this; it added to the meal.

Unique assortment - Edit
Who knew there would be a dedicated place for Puerto Rican food that is 100% vegan. The BBQ platter is a delicious assortment of flavors and very filling. They have vegan Tres Leches! You definitely need to try that -- this dessert is reason enough to visit this place. SO good!
Read moreFriendly service and the food court offers plenty of seating. The location is a great, clean, lively respite in a somewhat borderline shady location of downtown SF. Walking distance to all the major theaters nearby.

This was the best vegan meal out that I've had in a long time. If you are thinking of going someplace else besides Casa Borinqueña, please don't.

Vegan Puerto Rican Food in SF - Edit
First time trying Puerto Rican food, the vegan pastelillo filled with chick’n’ was tasty and served with a dipping sauce. I liked it, had some herbs/seasonings - I couldn’t make out. Personnel were super friendly!

Worth a Trip - Edit
I found this place through the app. It’s located on Market in a big food court that houses at least one other vegan restaurant (a taqueria that I plan to visit soon). The food was great, I ordered the Pastelillos- the beef and chicken options were great- with rice. I was also impressed with the soft drink collection, all straight from Puerto Rico. Good stuff!

Vegan Puerto Rican food - Edit
This was my first visit to the Saluhall. We decided to sample different offerings from the food court vendors. The lions share of our meal came from Casa Borinquena. All was delicious, but the impossible beef pastelillo was the standout with the Relleno de papa a close second. We will be back to try more on the menu.

Incroyable! Je recommande - Edit
Délicieux plats porto ricains qui rappellent les saveurs traditionnelles. Les textures sont parfaitement reproduites. Les portions sont généreuses et le personnel très amical et passionné par la nourriture qu'ils servent. Allez-y !

Fantastic Puerto Rican food inside of the Saluhall in IKEA - Edit
Phenomenal vegan chickn skewers. Everything else was great as well.

Tasty vegan chicken - Edit
The chicken sampler plate, the pincho sampler plate, and the Impossible pastelillo were all very delicious. The rice is flavorful but not overpowering, and the vegan chicken is tender, slightly crispy, and seasoned just right.

First timer visit - Edit
My order:
Read morePincho (skewer) sampler plate
Arroz con gandules (seasoned Puerto Rican rice), sweet yellow plantains, Side salad with two BBQ vegan chicken skewers.
$20. Recommended for first timers
Nice exposure to cuisine with a sampler. Three tasty sweet yellow plantains. The two skewers had that meaty texture and sweet flavored BBQ sauce. Generous portion of special rice which was tasty. Healthy green side salad included. I hope to try the mofungo cups which look interesting and try the other few menu items. Dined in , the space is very clean, spacious at Saluhall, just wish everything were a bit warmer temperature wise. Saw someone get to go for SF ballgame, not sure how it would hold up at a cold ballgame in the summer??
Thumbs up for my first vegan Puerto Rican try.
Pros: Good flavors, Nice sampler

It's inside of IKEA - Edit
Casa Borinqueña is inside of IKEA on the second floor. It's a food court style setup, and La Venganza is next to it in the food court. This is a lot different than their old location in Oakland. The food is amazing, though. It's the best food I've ever had in a food court. If you love plantains you're going to love the food here. I got the sampler platter and was able to eat sweet plantains, green plantains, incredible rice with olives, and BBQ skewers.
Read moreThere's not much to say about service since it's a low service enviornment, but the food was ready in a reasonable amount of time, and it was a very enjoyable meal.

So delicious! - Edit
The sampler plate with pinchos (bbq chicken skewers) was so good. I really liked the skewers and I could see myself getting a side of those in the future. The plantains were really good, crispy, and hot. Really happy to support a 100% vegan restaurant!!

Really tasty - Edit
Get the meat skewers, they were sooooo good. The platter was a bit heavy on the rice but all the sides were great. I also enjoyed the tres leches but eating all of it was a bit too much sweetness for me.
