Delicious food and friendly service

Located on the 2nd floor in Saluhall, this all vegan restaurant is a great find. We had the sampler plate with chick’n skewers and two different types of mofongo cups (impossible beef and mushroom). Everything was so delicious and full of flavor. The hall is clean and light and the service was very friendly and helpful (offering some great recommendations). We will definitely go back.

Pros: All vegan menu, Great flavor combinations, Friendly service

Delicious

It was my first time eating Puerto Rican food, and I loved it! The staff was nice, the food court where the restaurant is located was pleasant, and, most importantly, the food was delicious. I loved the tostones in particular, glad I asked for the side dish. And the portions were very generous. Highly recommended!

Puerto Rican Food!

I loved my side dishes of tostones and rice, and they were more than a complete meal for me! My partner's sample plate was OK. It was hard to find this place, hidden on the second floor of a food court.

Pros: Tostones!, Arroz con gandules!

Delicious

I have never had Puerto rican food before and so know nothing about whether it is good or not. I was attracted by the fact that there was a vegan outlet in a food court.

I took the recommended of the person serving and was not disappointed. Tasted good and filled me up.

I found this place because eating in the ikea restaurant : I noticed it had doors to an adjacent food court and checked it out due to curiosity. As this food court is separate to IKEA I was able to come back the next day. As I am staying nearby I can see myself coming back again.

Pros: All vegan , Very tasty

Flavourful

Heads up: location is 2 nd floor of IKEA in a food court. Nice variety of Puerto Rican dishes, and a few sodas. The chef may be the owner, a small “mom“ shop making food out of love.

Vegan tostones

My first time trying food from a 100% vegan Puerto Rican place and I loved it 😍 after seeing all of the pictures on here, I know I need to go back. I got the loaded tostones.

Perfect fried plantains and pinchos

Casa Borinqueña is next to IKEA upstairs in the food court. The pinchos (BBQ soy chicken on a skewer) and fried plantains were cooked just right. The salad was just greens I could have gotten at the grocery store with an unremarkable dressing, but it complemented the rest of the sampler platter well.

First vegan Puerto Rican restaurant in California

Built up an appetite browsing through Ikea next door, then crossed into Saluhall, a hip eatery on mid-Market where Casa Borinqueña can be found. The Puerto Rican (PR) stand gave major island vibes and reminded me of the food I would find in Little Caribbean, NYC, but vegan.

The sample platter is the way to go with sweet BBQ skewers on a bed of rice and plantains. A PR meal wouldn’t be complete without tostones, topped with your choice of chik’n or beef. While you can get one of each, I have a slight preference for the chik’n. Wash it down with a Malta India, a popular carbonated malt drink from PR. Despite its name or bottle shape, it’s non-alcoholic. It was a nice touch that Casa Borinqueña carried this; it added to the meal.

Unique assortment

Who knew there would be a dedicated place for Puerto Rican food that is 100% vegan. The BBQ platter is a delicious assortment of flavors and very filling. They have vegan Tres Leches! You definitely need to try that -- this dessert is reason enough to visit this place. SO good!

Friendly service and the food court offers plenty of seating. The location is a great, clean, lively respite in a somewhat borderline shady location of downtown SF. Walking distance to all the major theaters nearby.

Vegan Puerto Rican Food in SF

First time trying Puerto Rican food, the vegan pastelillo filled with chick’n’ was tasty and served with a dipping sauce. I liked it, had some herbs/seasonings - I couldn’t make out. Personnel were super friendly!

I wasn’t feeling that adventurous so I’d have to come back to try other items on the menu.

Pros: Fully Vegan/Plant-Based, Friendly Service, Prime Location Off Market Street in SF

Worth a Trip

I found this place through the app. It’s located on Market in a big food court that houses at least one other vegan restaurant (a taqueria that I plan to visit soon). The food was great, I ordered the Pastelillos- the beef and chicken options were great- with rice. I was also impressed with the soft drink collection, all straight from Puerto Rico. Good stuff!

Vegan Puerto Rican food

This was my first visit to the Saluhall. We decided to sample different offerings from the food court vendors. The lions share of our meal came from Casa Borinquena. All was delicious, but the impossible beef pastelillo was the standout with the Relleno de papa a close second. We will be back to try more on the menu.

Pros: Affordable menu, Friendly service
