Bready To Rumble

Quietly becoming something of a Dubai institution, this discreet bakery is a must for those in the know; the speed at which items sell out is testament to its popularity. Placing my order early so as to avoid disappointment and secure the items I wanted to sample, I had to be extremely patient as the delivery took an exceedingly long time. Whether this was the fault of the business or the courier, I’m not sure, but mercifully the wait was most assuredly worth it.
With bread being the cornerstone of all that this place does, I endeavoured to amass as many varieties as I could so I would to be able provide the most well-informed assessment possible. What I hadn’t quite banked on was quite how much of the stuff this would require me to consume, but I’m not one to shy away from a challenge.
As one might expect, they were all great. So great in fact that they could easily be eaten unadorned. Freshness was evident throughout, and each one was discernibly unique in terms of taste, texture and appearance. Yet while it may be that I enjoyed every variation, there were a couple of real standouts: the ridiculously soft sourdough ciabatta, the airy pizza bianca, and the jam-packed nut slice. The latter of these was - I am convinced - a form of pure alchemy, as I have zero idea how it maintained its structural integrity.
Away from the single slices, there was even more magic to be found. The garden sando was brimming with succulent, sweet, roasted veggies nestled within gloriously fluffy focaccia, the miso hummus was luxuriously smooth and rich with umami, and the avocado tartine was both delicate and delicious.
The run of excellence extended to the sweet offerings, too. The cashew nut butter is apparently a firm pantry favourite among the regular clientele, and with its creaminess and its bold flavour, I have no reason to doubt that assertion. Finally, the double chocolate, banana & walnut muffin - well, how could it be anything but glorious?
The only minor gripe I had (save for delayed arrival) was that I was sent the focaccia laced with honey and cheese rather than the decidedly more vegan-friendly sea salt creation. However, my annoyance at this was considerably tempered by the sheer brilliance everything else that I received.
Blatantly, I can now count myself as one of the ever growing hoard of admirers of this cracking little spot, and I know that I’ll be back for more.
