Rainbow roll was amazing. The grilled chik’n satay was also terrific.they said peanut sauce was spicy but it wasn’t which I liked. The cookie skillet with matcha ice cream was delicious and gone quickly between 3 people.

Small but nice decor. The food is as great as the the other bigger locations like the one in midtown (my favorite). The rools are very good. the same chef has a new place in chelsea called Willow and its great!

EASILY My Favorite - Edit
I've only been to 1 other sushi joint, here in SF, and Beyond Sushi is easily my favorite. I know, not much to judge off but as far as coming close to REAL sushi, Beyond hit the nail on the head. Their "spicy jackfruit crab roll"? WOW. So good I had to "run it back" at another other location by the Empire State Building (this one's by Central Park). Also ordered their "spicy tuna roll" and "spicy mang." Price was fairly decent, in comparison to the sushi joint in SF. Premium roll like the spicy jackfruit crab roll prob would of cost around $20 in SF (like real sushi) vs what I actually paid at $14. Spicy tuna was $10 and spicy mang $9. So not bad price point for QUALITY vegan sushi.

Beyond Sushi is a small chain that offers vegan sushi. The restaurants don't have a corporate, chain-like feel to them, however. The food at Beyond Sushi is consistently delicious and healthy.
Read moreI have been to this particularly branch a number of times, and have never been disappointed. I will no doubt return to this branch in the future when I am nearby, since it is by far the best place in the immediate area.
However, this branch is a bit cramped (as are many restaurants in midtown). The best Beyond Sushi branches that I have been to are the ones in Herald Square (which is very roomy) and the Upper East Side (also quite comfortable); I gave those other branches a five-star rating and listed them among my NYC favorites. The food here is admittedly just as good as the other ones; nevertheless, if I were make a special trip to eat at one of the Beyond Sushi places, I would probably pick the roomier locations at Herald Square or Upper East Side.

I stopped by today and see that the restaurant seating has been considerably rearranged to make it much more roomy than before (at least by NYC standards). Now, it is indeed quite possible for groups of up to 6 to have a relaxing meal--I show some pictures with the new layout.

They were having technical difficulties when we arrived, which created some minor headaches for the guests. Not to worry, however, the staff was absolutely delightful and went above and beyond to make everyone happy. To top it off, the food and drinks were the best we had while in New York. We enjoyed it so much, we cancelled lunch plans a few days later so we could return here.

Not once, but twice did I have to ask the waiter if he was sure that it was all vegan. That can be a good thing, or a bad thing. I don't have a "problem" with the taste of meat, I just would like no animal to have suffered and be killed for that taste. So I'm all for realistic tastes. But it did throw me for a loop. It'd been a while since I had tasted something so close to fish. So if that's not your thing, I'd stay clear of things like the zalmon or tuna.
Read moreI'm not surprised that this place was a win for me. I've made a significant amount of [vegan] sushi at home, and it is always delicious. Seaweed and well-prepared rice is already an all star combo. Anything fresh inside of that is going to taste great. All dishes (dumplings, baos, sushi, desserts) had complex and complimentary flavors. Like the black sesame cookie which didn't lean on the sweet side and was paired with ice cream or the doughy bun with crunchy chickn.
Tried:
Dumplings: beef and chickn
Baos: fried chick'n bao, beef
Rolls: rainbow, ube crunch (a favorite), jackfruit, zalmon, "tuna"
Desserts: black sesame cookie and ube cheesecake
The only dish I wouldn't repeat would be the cheesecake, because cheesecakes in general do not do it for me.
