Close to absolutely disappointing - Edit
So, my partner and I thought we were in for a vegan, delicious treat, when we went to this place earlier today. First of all, the place is not completely vegan, which they advertise accordingly, so it shouldn’t be placed under “vegan restaurants”.
Read moreSecond of all, I ordered the “delish” burger with soy beefs, Mayo, avocado, and lettuce with nachos on the side and a chilli mayo dip. The beefs were quite alright: sumptuous, tender, spicy and plentiful. I hate to say that everything else was very disappointing. The Mayo had no taste, and no grease. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was made without oil. The single slice of avocado was just there, not doing anything positive. Lettuce is, well, lettuce. And, the bun was too small, not crispy, too doey and just unappealing. All in all the burger lacked flavour, togetherness between the different elements, and it was definitely not worth the 9 €, I had to pay for it. The nachos on the side were bland and boring. The dip - which I assume was the same as was used in the burger - had no taste whatsoever, other than it was slightly hot.
My partner had the the falafel salad with nachos and hummus on the side. My burger was disappointing to a degree that doesn’t compare to the shittyness of that salad. First of all, both the hummus and the falafel weren’t homemade. Aside of those two elements, the salad consisted mostly of iceberg lettuce. There were no tomatoes, zucchinis, barely any parsley, and no fancy-ass “cooling yogurt dip” to be found, all of which the menu said that the salad included. The same boring nachos, too. The only plus side was the tahini dressing, which was really nice.
If folks want to spend money in this place, let it rip. But this review is also a wake-up call to all those eateries out there, seemingly with the capacity to bring solid, beautiful, vegan food on the table, but instead choosing to treat paying customers as ignorant fools. I remember 10 years ago when I rejoiced at the sight of something vegan on a menu, at a restaurant. That time is now long gone, and my partner and I will no longer be content with anything less than good (and honest) food, when we dine away from home. There are many lovely places to eat around the world, and this place could be one of them, but not without effort and respect for the people showing up to eat, and respect for the art of cooking vegan food.
