Soooo yummy!

Their sandwiches are huge! The breakfast sandwich was the best I’ve ever had! Got a super flaky delicious cinnamon roll and a slice of artichoke bread. Will be returning on every trip to PIT!!

Limited selection by the time we got there, but the muffin and roll were good.

Obsessed with the seitan melt

I’m obsessed with the seitan melt at Allegro! It is absolutely delicious. Everything here is vegan, and all their pastries are amazing. You cannot go wrong with any choice!

Fantastic goodies!

Got a plain croissant and apricot rugelach to eat—both excellent and well-priced! Non-veg partner said he wouldn’t know that croissant was vegan if he wasn’t told… super flaky! We also had coffee with oat milk 👍

Pros: Variety, Taste

Overwhelming amount of choices

This is a great bakery with some options for breakfast and lunch. The bakery case is a feast for the eyes. Everything was delicious! Staff was great and happy to pack stuff in my containers to limit packaging. I will definitely return again.

Pros: Selection of desserts , Seitan options, Friendly service

Cons: No seating

The best vegan bakery and sandwich shop in Pittsburgh

Every bite of their delicious sandwiches, pastries or bread is simply a joy.

I recommend seitan sandwich ( shaved and roasted seitan with oat cheese, red onions, pickles, roasted tomatoes, sauerkraut and toum). It's an excellent mixture of flavors.

Mushroom sandwich shares almost same ingredients with seitan one. Everything on a fresh seeded whole wheat bread. It's incredibly tasty.

Avocado sandwich is mild but also yummy. Same seeded wheat bread with mixed vegetables, cucumber, red onion, Toum, Tahiti and Shiitake bacon.

As a dessert we tried apricot and chocolate rugelaches. They can't be more delicious 😋.

Get one of everything!

Allegro is top quality. Everything, and I mean everything, is delicious!

As an out of town visitor, this is one of the places you will lament not being in your own city.

Try the breakfast sandwich and an assortment of bakery items if you don’t know where to start.

Just note: this is not dine-in. There’s a park up the street where you can sit outside on a nice day.

Pros: Sandwiches , Cinnamon rolls, Baked goods

An absolute gem.

My wife and I live in California and make a few trips a year to Pittsburgh to visit friends and family. Any time we are in town, making the drive to Allegro is a definite must. I can’t say we have ever had anything from Allegro we didn’t love (and felt the same way when their sister restaurant B52s was around). Our go-to’s are the seitan melt, breakfast sandwich, apple galette, cinnamon rolls, rugelach, cookies…honestly, you name it, it’s probably great. I seriously can’t recommend Allegro enough. One of the best vegan spots I’ve ever been to.

Superb little Bakery/Cafe

If you’re ever in Pittsburgh make sure you visit this amazing little cafe! The food is awesome—we ordered a Seitan Melt and Mushroom Melt on Sourdough bread and they were both so delicious! The flavors were really good and the portions are huge! You could probably share one sandwich with another person. We didn’t get any of their baked goods but everything looked really tasty. The only downside is that there’s zero seating and we didn’t know so we had to eat in our car. The food comes wrapped in foil and it can get messy! Still, this place was a 10/10!

Pros: Friendly staff , Nice variety of sweet and savory foods

Cons: No seating whatsoever , Metered street parking only , Long wait time when they’re busy

Fresh & Authentic

What a gem of a find in Pittsburgh! From ULTRA FRESH croissants, chocolate croissants, raspberry and chocolate rugelach, blueberry danish, tofu sandwich on homemade sourdough, a reuben-esque recreation and a breakfast sandwich with inhouse chickpea tofu slices and homemade sausage. Happy, friendly, welcoming staff with smiles to greet you and the fresh bread aromas fill the entry. Beautiful Eastern European neighborhood just a stone's throw (or drive as you may) from Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. Go early to ensure they don't sell out of your favorites!

Pros: Fresh, Quality ingredients, Delicious

Cons: Parking

Best cinnamon roll ever

So so so good. The cinnamon roll is to die for, best I’ve ever had. I’ve heard high praise for the sandwiches and can’t wait to try them. I wasn’t blown away by the chocolate chip cookie but the chocolate itself was fantastic.

Would be dangerous if I lived nearby

Lovely little bakery with lots of nice options; enjoyed their sweet baked goods more than their savory, but didn’t get a chance to try their sandwiches (which I will next time!)

Unmatched

Allegro’s breakfast sandwich is fantastic. I am honestly not crazy about some of their pastries, but the coffee cake is unbeatable. Best coffee cake I’ve ever had

A must-stop in Pittsburgh

I stopped here a few years back and had their pastries. They were delicious, by the way - but I was never able to come for a proper lunch. I hear recommendations for them often, but don’t often make the journey to Squirrel Hill from where I live in the South Hills. Today, the stars aligned and my schedule allowed me to come in and try a sandwich.

I ordered the seitan melt, and it. Was. Life-changing. Quite frankly, I’m not sure how their grassroots, word-of-mouth notoriety is even possible, because once you bite into one of these sandwiches, you will be too busy stuffing it into your mouth as quickly as your body will allow you to chew. In my eyes, this is a sandwich anyone would love, whether they are vegan, vegetarian, or omni.

There are a lot of cuisines that are easy to adapt when you give up animals: Thai, Indian, and Mexican are all easy enough to veganize with delicious results. One thing that is difficult to find: A good, old-fashioned sandwich. I’m so happy I gave Allegro a try, and will absolutely be back to try other items on their menu.

First time, not my last time.

BUSY. No where to sit, barely anywhere to stand even. Got some little deli fridge items like hummus and cashew cheese, as well as a breakfast sandwich that kicked ass. Delightful and friendly staff.

So many options!

Had some great sandwiches (seitan melt and breakfast at sandwich) at allegro bakery and was surprised at how filling they were! I wanted to try all the breads and baked goods, would go back if in Pittsburgh again. Also really enjoyed the chocolate chip tahini pistachio cookie, thick crunchy cookie with just enough chew. Best vegan cookie we tried in Pittsburg so far.

Pros: Many options, Good tasting food

Cons: Expensive

Frequent breakfast

Allegro Hearth is so good I end up there at least a few times a month. The pastries are to die for, their breakfast sandwiches slap, their soups are great, everything they offer has been truly incredible. This place really proves that pastries can be made fully vegan without any loss of flavor, and arguably better than non vegan versions.

Also do yourself a favor and try the cinnamon bun.

Pros: Everything

Everything is amazing!!

I had the seitan melt and it was the best sandwich I've ever had. I've been a vegan for 37 years. I'm originally from Pittsburgh area and I can't wait to go back again when I visit in a few weeks. Everything about the sandwich was perfect, the shears, the vegan cheese, the seitan was the best I've ever had as well, the pickles. The cinnamon roll was fabulous. It was so big, it took me all day to eat and I shared bites with family. The lamination in the roll and in the blueberry danish was unbelievable. The cinnamon roll was caramelized on the bottom which made it even dreamier. I also had a chocolate chunk cookie that was amazing.

Pros: Seitan, Bread, Cinnamon roll

Cons: It was perfect. I can't wait to go back.

Delicious & Welcoming

I stopped here twice on my weekend trip to pgh and I am so glad that I did. The staff is so friendly and the food is just delicious. The staff recommends arriving early (they open at 8am) and/or placing your order online when they open so that you can reserve the best baked goods, since they sell out quickly on the weekends. I loved everything I tried (chocolate cake, cinnamon roll, chocolate filled cruffin, and the raspberry danish) and I can’t wait to go back!

Pros: All vegan, Friendly staff, Inviting atmosphere

No seating, but otherwise nice

I thought it was a restaurant since I saw they have salads and sandwiches, but alas. Still, the staff were very kind and I went away with a lovely salad, generous on the avocado.

Cons: No seating
