I had such high expectations because of the reviews, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food at all.
Read moreFrom the eight dishes I chose from the buffet, I liked two, two more were ok-ish, and I did not like four. I only finished half of my plate because I could not eat more of it. Some of it was far too bland, but most was way too spicy, in an unbalanced and strange way (usually I like spicy).
Thus, I can only give three stars, although apart from the food I loved the experience.
The setting is amazing: The outdoor seating is located in a beautiful courtyard next to a church, there’s a fountain and a big tree, so it‘s just so relaxing. It felt like dining in the Mediterranean.
Moreover, the staff had reserved two tables for us, one inside and one outdoors, so we would have a table for both weather conditions and even go inside during the evening if we felt like it. How great is that!
The buffet is huge and there are so many vegan options. You can taste that it‘s all fresh and there are many unusual dishes that are not included in the average buffet.
So, all in all it could have been wonderful!
I must add that my husband wasn‘t a fan of the food, either, but he liked it better than I did.

Hier wird ein sehr umfangreiches Buffet mit warmen Speisen und Salaten geboten. Sehr gut abgeschmeckt und klar deklariert. Es ist belebt aber gemütlich und man fühlt sich sehr willkommen. Das Personal ist herzlich und hilfsbereit. Hier kann man schnell satt werden oder länger verweilen mit Kaffee, Tee und Kuchen . Eine Terrasse und Sitzplätze unter Bäumen bieten jederzeit Sonnenschein und kühlen Schatten.
In the Adelhaus you can get full and enjoy a coffee and a dessert.
A very extensive buffet with warm dishes and salads is offered here. Very well seasoned and clearly declared. It's lively but cozy and you feel very welcome. The staff is warm and helpful. Here you can quickly get full or linger longer with coffee, tea and cake. A terrace and seating under trees offer sunshine and cool shade at all times.

Es gibt zum einen ein Buffet mit überwiegend veganen Optionen, alles was ich hatte war soo lecker😍. Auch sehr viele Vegane Kuchen und Getränke. Wenn es nicht so teuer wäre würde ich hier sehr oft her kommen. Dazu muss man aber sagen, dass alles bio und in super Qualität ist

Every time I visit Freiburg, I cannot wait to have a meal at Adelhaus. It is so cozy, and their staff welcomes you warm-heartedly! I like to order their vegan daily special as I do not have to think about what to choose at the buffet.😉Today they served potato cakes made with herbs and tofu accompanied by apple puree and red cabbage salad for 12€. I liked it very much, but the best part was the tiramisu. It was one of the best vegan ones I have ever had!

Ate here for dinner, was very delicious, but quite expensive. It is pay-by-weight for the buffet, with very nice staff that explained how everything worked! The interior was uniquely designed, with a spacious exterior patio.

We came here twice whilst in our short visit to Freiberg. We were absolutely bowled over by the selection of foods on the buffet - I’m a coeliac vegan and my partner has allergies to some nuts, so eating out can be difficult, especially in other countries. I cannot express how PERFECTLY seasoned everything is, how fresh and inventive the salads are - how clearly labelled everything is. Good price also for top quality food. We both felt very spoilt! The staff were also extremely patient, helpful and friendly. Absolutely wonderful.

Great atmosphere. The daily dish we got was very tasty but we got the impression it was not very well thought of from the start: we went for tempeh discs and, after quite some time, the “staff” warned us that they added polenta to the dish which we were OK with. The thing is, it the dish did not have the polenta, we would’ve left really hungry. The dish contained only 3 small tempeh discs on top of a polenta cream.

Great atmosphere & amazing food - Edit
This is my "go-to" place for lunch or dinner in Freiburg. Love the selection of warm and cold vegan dishes, coffee+tea, and the cozy atmosphere! Just the cakes could be little less sweet (they serve also no-sugar chocolate cake that is really tasty but not vegan).

Adelhaus has a good atmosphere and outdoor sittings. It is a vegetarian (with a lot of vegan options) buffet priced by weight. My favourite is their marble cake :)

Recommended vegan dining in the city centre - Edit
This restaurant is located in a particularly nice neighbourhood in the centre of Freiburg and offers plenty of outdoor seating. Apart from the warm and cold buffet, there are daily specials (vegan or vegetarian). The falafel special I had was a pretty small portion, but it was tasty. So I ended up having a few things from the buffet too. There were enough clearly labelled vegan options and they tasted great. Ended up with a full tummy for about €15, not bad.

Awesome variety, vegan options, a little pricey - Edit
Really delicious, huge variety of vegan dishes because there are only a couple with cheese or butter. The costing is done by weight of the plate and a full (slightly heaped) plate of vegan stuff cost me €14, so a little pricey but not too bad. The food was delicious, the staff were super friendly and the location is perfect. Sitting outside in the summer is basically a fairytail.

Okay place to eat salad - Edit
We ate here near closing time so understandably there were fewer options left in the buffet. The warm meal didn't look/sound too delicious so we decided to with the salad buffet. The buffet had a lot of options but many of then were pretty similar with each other. I've had better salads before but it was OK, slightly expensive. There seemed to be only bottled water available but we asked the waiter for tap water and he brought just one glass for two people, weird.

Ate here 3 times on a recent trip to Freiburg. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Vegan and veggie salad bee options. Hot vegan and veggie dishes of the day as well as a vegan and veggie burger each day. Vegan desserts and glutenfree cakes. Gorgeous outside eating area in a beautiful square. Modern interior. You can also get food to go.

Waaaaaay too expensive. And vegan menu isn't special. A lot of salad available but if u fill the plate u can expect to pay a lot. It's much better to go for some falafel place.

I went there for lunch once and I was pleased with the range of vegan and gluten free options.
Read moreThere is a big salad bar, with a variety of toppings and dressings. There is a much smaller section with hot and organic food- on the day I went there were 2 types of veggies, roasted potatoes and 2 types of veggie patties (1 vegan). Finally, there is a desert section, with mostly mousses and creams- there were 2 or 3 vegan options.
There is also a separate counter with a wider range of cakes, including some vegan ones.
Everything is very clearly labeled, including the list of ingredients used for each dish. It's very convenient if you have any food allergies.
The food was very tasty. The salad bar feels a bit pricey (it's by weight) but the hot and organic food was very reasonable.
There is loads of sitting space- on the square where the restaurant is, indoors and there is also a terrace at the back of the restaurant.
