Though I think there is no sign anymore, you can just ask for uma acarajé vegana. The lady will ask you if you want pimenta. You can also say you would like só um pouco ;)

So, I tried the famous Acarajé but honestly, I didn't like it. Simple in flavor, the mass was also flavorless... but the tomatoes and chili on top were the best part 😅

One of the carts in the main historic square! - Edit
You can find this cart in the main historic square (right where happycow lists it), their menu has a clearly labeled acarajé vegana. It’s really delicious and only R$10, and the people running the cart are super friendly.
