A word-of-mouth for mind-blowing run-in with mouth-watering all-vegan Chinese - Edit
I've been about a half dozen times the last few years and have always loved Yuan Su.
Read moreThe food is so delicious that it occupies my thoughts more than I care to admit. You'll always be able to try something new because there's an endless variety of options...if you can manage to avoid the temptation to only ever order the first entree you tried there because it was so good and you could eat just that for the rest of your life.
The taste and texture of many of the vegan imitation meats is so similar to the corresponding animal products that it might have you questioning if *everything* on the menu really is vegan (it is). Fool your friends!
Excellent service from the waitstaff. If the server isn't busy they will have a friendly chat with me from time to time. They're very attentive and stay on top of things like taking your order, explaining the menu ("that dish is spicy, will that be OK?"), answering questions ("the three types of mushrooms are ..."), drink refills, making sure everything is to your satisfaction, and fetching things like chili oil.
It's a great spot for celebrating with loved ones because their dining area has some big round lazy Susans and around a hundred menu options, so it's expansive enough that everyone will likely find what they want. It's served family style, which makes sharing food easy and elevates the experience (for me, personally). It's in a very large building that can seat a lot of customers, so unlike many places you probably wont' be locked out of having a large party seated even during the dinner rush (at least, I didn't have any problem, but I didn't exactly conduct a double-blind randomized controlled trial).
So far I have loved every plate that I've ordered, although naturally I gravitate mostly towards things I think I will like. I'm sure there are many dishes that don't suit my tastes.
My absolute favorite menu choices are:
* Veggie Ham, Mixed Mushrooms, & Tofu with Hot Sauce in Hot Pot. The amount of savory goodness they pack into every spoonful of this life-altering soup still cannot be explained by modern science. They use real Sichuan peppercorns, of course. You can burn your mouth from the hot temperature and the hot spice levels at the same time. :)
* Veggie Ham Fried Rice. Best fried rice I've ever had, vegan or not. The flavors somehow burst in your mouth.
Close behind are the other dishes that I've loved since I was a kid:
* Veggie Kung Pao Shrimp.
* Spring Roll, pot stickers, and fried wontons.
Pros: Delicious dishes with good value and variety, Eerily accurate immitation meat (a con for some), Makes great next day leftovers
Cons: Probably lots of calories and sodium (worth it), Building is old and has seen better days, Addictive

Loved every dish we ordered! We got the crispy wontons as an appetizer, lemon veggi chicken, the grean bean beef, and bbq pork fried rice. All was delicious, flavorful, and well-seasoned. Will be coming back! The staff there was really friendly as well.

I love Yuan Su! I’ve been there a few times, my most recent visit was 12/27/24. I really like their general tsos and find that I can get a lot of classic American-Chinese dishes here that taste great.

I had the Kung Pao chicken lunch special with steamed rice and my bf had the lunch combo with Sweet and Sour pork.
The veggies were cooked just right with the perfect crunch.
This restaurant does not use garlic or onions and surprisingly I did not miss those two at all.

Great comfort food Chinese dishes - Edit
Oops, forgot to review this place several months ago when we ordered takeout from them, so I can't recall exactly which of the dishes we ordered, but it was yummy comfort food. The breaded and fried dishes were especially tasty, and portion sizes were pretty generous. The BBQ pork was great, although the portion on that particular dish was small. I'd definitely like to try more dishes here.

We ordered the lunch special at 1:45pm and it ends at 2:30pm so maybe this is on me. The ham fried rice was dry and crispy. The wontons were just wonton wrappers with no filling. The sweet and sour pork was the best thing on the plate. Can of coke was super icy which was nice. Wish I ordered off the main menu, the lunch just sounded like an opportunity to try more.

We have been regular customers at Yuan Su for years. One note is that every menu item has gone up $/yr, so over 5 yrs it has increased at least $5. This changes how much food we can get and the prices are higher than some places that are making organic meals from scratch, which this is not.
Read moreYou have to know which items are deep fried and which are not. Some veggie dishes are really mostly celery, like a ton of it, or poorly cooked mushrooms. The dumplings are poorly made & greasy and not worth the $10/6, honestly not worth half that.
If you can navigate the menu well, you can get a well balanced meal. I crave and love their soups, which have become expensive.
Generally I think the staff tries their best and means well. Not without issue: if you get takeout verify the lids are completely on. Other issues I will keep private for the benefit of the doubt.
We generally have slowed our roll here, and become infrequent visitors. We'll get soup, but some dishes can be a little bit of deep fried with a ton of celery for $20. Less of a problem when it was half that. So a bit on the hit or miss side of things, whereas prior it felt more 'on'.
Our last few visits have been very good and overall I should affirm that I am glad its here and should amplify it more.
Also curious why there are more than 1 ordering sites, not a true site of their own?
UPDATE: As of 2024, they no longer give the little bit of rice they gave, you have to pay an extra $ for that. It continues to feel nickel-and-dimed, essentially another $ increase for the year, this with the awkward question from waitstaff do you want rice for a dollar more? Seriously it feels like enough with that.

I have yet to eat anything I didn't love from Yuan Su! My favorite is the crispy tofu. It's so awesome to be able to order anything on The menu and have it be delicious, and my non vegan partner also loves it! The fake meats are tasty, and the service is great.

We ordered Turmeric Fried Rice (with peas and carrots) and Veggie Beef Chow Fun. Big plates of food were served within minutes. The fried rice was flavorful, but not oily. The Chow Fun included flat noodles, carrots, bean sprouts, and snow peas. I would have preferred more beef, but otherwise it was good.

The sizzling beef and peppers was excellent. We also had the dinner combo #1. The beef and broccoli was excellent too. Service was very good. Place is huge inside so you don’t have to worry about not getting a table and they have good parking. I asked about anything not being vegan, she reassured us everything was vegan.

The food is class American Chinese food. It's greasy, fried and delicious. The General Tso is to die for.
We love this place and crave it all the time.

This restaurant was so fantastic. I was a bit skeptical at first when I pulled into the parking lot - it seemed a bit run down and there weren’t any super clear signs for the location. The menu was enormous, but we ended up ordering potstickers, chow mein, beef and broccoli, and sweet and sour chicken. The food was SO good. I haven’t had American Chinese food in years, and this brought back so many memories. Tasted absolutely fantastic and I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

Staff were also super friendly and helped make the experience that much greater. Definitely check this fantastic restaurant out!
