The vegetables and bean curd in Sichuan pepper sauce was delicious, as was the tea made from rice. The waitresses were extremely friendly and managed to overcome our language barrier through enthusiasm to make sure I had everything I needed .

Amazing! - Edit
As a vegan international student in Beijing, this is the restaurant I often go to when I need to dine out with my friends. Reasonably priced, it has a huge number of recipes to choose from, all delicious enough to satisfy people from almost all backgrounds. For new vegans, this is a great place to explore all the amazing vegan alternatives to meat-based recipes that they need to see.

Outstanding - Edit
The amazing food and service left me with a smile on my face and a full tummy of vegan food.
Read moreThe first time I went there I had the tomato hotpot which was very impressive.
My second experience was just as good. I had a portion of rice as well as the cabbage dish, green bean dish, spinach (bocai) dish, and "chicken" nugget dish.
I also took two Veggie burgers take-away because I couldn't bear not to have tried them.
Everything was fantastic! I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant.
Pros: Delicious food , Friendly Staff (speak English), Vast menu
Cons: None!

The BEST in Beijing - Edit
Oh. My. God. This place, hands down, is the best vegan restraunt in the city. Mock meats on point and great flavor in all the dishes. They are the only place with vegan burgers we've found and it was soooo good. There are even mock fried eggs which are legit AF. Blew my mind they were vegan in all honesty. Haven't ever been offered a vegan burger with a fried egg anywhere else other than here.
Read moreThe reviews about being pushy on the hot pot couldn't be more wrong. We were asked if we wanted it (in English) and were explained what it was. Then she told us about the rest of the menu. Nothing pushy about any of the interactions at all. And some of the best english service we have run into. The service was amazing and the prices were even better. We had an entire table of food for about $20. Insane... food that should go for $50 in the USA. A true gem and worth whatever it takes you to get there.
They also have vegan/organic skin care products which we haven't seen any where else in the area. The map location is 100% accurate and why are you even reading this still....just go!
Pros: Entire vegan menu, no meat options which is LOVE.
Cons: Seriously, none at all.

A must if you're in Beijing! - Edit
Hands down one of my favorite places in Beijing! The hotpot is delicious and so is the rest of the food from the menu. From the tomato and fake-egg noodle soup to the fake-chicken burger, everything is delicious! Plus they have kale which is pretty hard to find in Beijing!
Read moreAlso, most of their food comes from their organic farm (in Shangxi) which means you're always eating fresh and organic veggies!

Genuine - Edit
After reading the reviews i was expecting an over priced restaurant for toursits.
Read moreIt is not. The quality of the food is clearly discernable in the taste.
The restaurant is the creation of several students collective vision of making a difference.
The food has the farn fresh taste and their tofu simply tastes better.
For the effort they put in being real, healthy and sustainable their prices are fair.
Pros: Quality ingredients , Friendly and geniune. The feel of a student effort, Pesticide free...most of their foods.
Cons: A littly grubby., Designed to be a hotpot restaurant.

Meh, wasn’t impressed - Edit
Only good thing about this restaurant, they were selling some veggies and goods that was not bad. Food itself, nah. It was greasy want really that tasty. Staff were nice but their English speaking staff was not good with English so had a bit of hard time communicating. Keep forcing us to have hotpot when we didn’t want to have that much food. Bread is okay not the best but then it’s hard to find vegan bread out in China. Considering it’s good enough. But I will not go back there again.

Is food is love! - Edit
This little unassuming Vege & Organic grocer is a buzzing little vegan hotpot and farm fresh food restaurant. My vegan husband and I are in Beijing for work and using the happy cow app we ventured to this amazing little student run shop that makes their own tofu, grow and farm their own vegetables in the Shanxie province and bring it back to this spot for minimal packing and selling. The girls even clip and prune the veggies right next to you whilst you’re devouring dumplings, tofu dishes and the most extraordinary mushroom types I have ever seen and tasted. There is also a funny and amazingly delicious flip side to this little shop and that’s the chicken burger?!? Yep the faux chicken burger that is one of the best chicken burgers I have ever had with a mayonnaise made from soy beans. This place is a definite must taste in everyone’s list vegan or not. I have been back twice now and highly recommend it to you all to try or keep going back for more! Let me know how the hotpot is it’s meant to be one of the best in Beijing! Big love 💚

Delicious food, excellent service - Edit
On my latest trip to Beijing, I was looking for two things: (a) vegetarian hot pot and (b) somewhere relatively close to my work. I found this restaurant via HappyCow, and I'll join the praise of both the food and the service.
Read moreI walked in, and was immediately greeted by friendly staff. While I communicated with them in Chinese, it was clear that they were able to use at least some rudimentary English, and that their menu (computerized, on a tablet) was available in English, as well.
Upon sitting down, I told them that I wanted to have hot pot. The waitress showed me their various options. I've been to a few hot pot places before; sometimes it's all-you-can-eat, but this isn't one of them. Here, you choose a base (flavor + stuff inside), and then add a la carte items to your soup.
I told the waitress that I'm hungry and willing to eat a lot -- and when I have hot pot, I'm very happy to stuff myself. She suggested that I get a single serving of soup, and then let me buy *half* servings of the a la carte add-ins. That saved me money and let me try a few different things. I'm not really sure what some of those things were; there were long tofu skins and some small, black dumpling-type things. Plus I had some green leaves, broccoli, and potatoes. (The potatoes and leaves were unnecessary, in retrospect.) I also got a plate of dumplings.
The dumplings arrived first, and they were among the most delicious I've ever had. (And I get dumplings at nearly every opportunity, when in China.) While I was munching on those, my soup boiled away, and they brought my add-ins.
The servers kept coming by to give me hot pot eating suggestions ("don't put this into the boiling pot," "take the serving spoon out, or it'll get hot," "have the broth first"), but it was out of caring and service, not annoying at all.
If I have one complaint, it's that the dinner was expensive: I paid just over 400 RMB for the hot pot and dumplings. That said, I was absolutely stuffed, and it satisfied my craving for hot pot for this trip. And it was of very high quality, with lots of expensive and delicious mushrooms. Plus, they use organic ingredients, which are always expensive -- and doubly so in Beijing.
If you are looking for vegetarian hot pot in Beijing, I strongly recommend going here.
It's not 100% obvious where their store is. I'm including a picture. Look for the big red Chinese characters and the smaller English sign saying "vegan - organic."
Pros: Delicious food, Fantastic service, English, if you need it
Cons: Expensive

Wonderful vegan place! - Edit
The staff here are all incredibly warm and friendly. I had the hotpot, which was incredibly good. The homemade tofu was a fantastic additon for the hotpot. Highly recommended. The bar of entirely vegan sauces and additions for the hotpot was great. And the greens I chose for the hotpot were grown on their own organic farm (which the staff people told me is also a school for organic farming).

Excellent food and service - Edit
My wife and I just returned from a week in China. This was the last restaurant we ate at and we're glad we did.
Read moreOther reviewers have noted the hotpot, and most other patrons appeared to have ordered that, so I suspect that's their speciality. We opted for a couple of stir fry dishes and dumplings. All were excellent. We especially enjoyed the ma po tofu which was nicely flavoured with Sichuan peppercorn.
Our server was very warm and friendly and spoke perfect English. We chatted a bit after the meal about their organic farm and local delivery service. Overall it seems like a really unique business and I highly recommend dropping by if you're in Beijing.
The restaurant is about a 15 minute walk north from the Xizhimen metro and clearly marked in English in the front.
Pros: Staff speaks English, Good value, Excellent quality food

Some dishes are so expensive! - Edit
I was so excited to eat here after the good reviews, but got so disappointed.
Read moreWe’d been climbing the Great Wall all morning and were starving. We was asked if we where there for the hot pot, without even having a glimpse at the menu. We had no idea. When we saw the prices we where chocked. The small hot pot was 300 or 400 CNY and the big 600 or 700. We tried to figure out if the small one was going to be big enough for the four of us, but it felt like the waitress tried to force the big and the most expensive on us. We even thought the small was too expensive.
We ended up with splitting 2 big plates of dumpling, very small ones (40 CNY or so each) and two burgers, very big (20 CNY or so). None was remarkable though. The only thing sticking out was the burger patty, which our two non-vegan friend didn’t believe was vegan.
I’m truly so disappointed and so genuinely sad I can’t put more stars in the review.
When we where leaving there was a girl handing me tomatoes in a bag and asked if I wanted them. I, very confused, asked if I got them “for free or what?” And she/they just laughed and said “no, they cost of course!”. I said we don’t have a kitchen, she said I could eat them as they where. I turned her offer down and then she said I could have them for free if I wanted. Very very VERY confusing....?

Best Vegan value ANYWHERE - Edit
Wutai Yun is THE total vegan experience that makes you proud to be a vegan! The food comes from their own organic farm north of Beijing. They make their own organic tofu. The staff is totally vegan and cheerfully congruent with the Buddhist/Tao values of the restaurant. Many speak English (ask for Ariel, Olivia or Debbie). Food is crazy delicious. I buy all my organic products there so that when I’m not eating there I can cook their organic food at home. It’s reasonable. They have a loyalty membership program. They’re conveniently located subway and bus-wise. Dumplings, eggplant, braised tofu and hotpot. Everything is absolutely fantastic. Interesting bonus: most of the delightful waitstaff are knowledgeable in Wu Xing, an ancient system of Chinese astrology based on the five elements of earth, fire, wood, water and metal. It’s based on your date and time of birth with a total of eight points distributed across these elements. They will happily give you a FREE Wu Xing reading and also give you information on how to improve areas where you have lack. For example, I am missing earth. To compensate for this I can carry crystals and wear earth colors. It’s massively interesting and uniquely beneficial. Go already! See you there!❤️

More than a restaurant, it's an enlightening experience. Fluent English, menu with pictures and cheaper than it says on Happy Cow - Edit
This is more than a restaurant; as an English ex-pat this place is enlightening and so much easier to eat in. Fluent English, personable and conversational service. And cheap. There's even a room devoted to home-made sauces!
Read moreAll the food is grown on their own farm, they have delivered a TED talk about a new system of sustainable living and all the produce tastes much fresher and more delicious than you would expect.
It's also a wellness centre where you can learn holistic approaches and become part of a community. My flatmate is a strict vegan and joined them many times, even to work on the farm! I myself decided to give it a try and they taught me traditional problem solving methods which helped me out of a work crisis.
After eating, I was asked if I wanted my elements reading based on my date of birth. It's easy to brush this off as a vague reading with open meanings but it genuinely was spot on, even capturing my attention to detail and blunt qualities and identified my health and social precautions. Amazing!
I paid a lot less than I was expecting for a delicious meal, company and refills of calming buckwheat tea. Great for when I just want to chill out and read a book.
It's essentially a straight line from Xizhimen station so it was easy to find, even in the dark. Didn't need to take a bus.
I made friends, learned new things, visited a sauce room, was able to be understood and paid well less than my budget.
Pros: Outstanding service and in English with pictures, Homegrown food and sauce room!, Cheaper than expected

Progressive restaurant, amazing food. MUST VISIT - Edit
Wow. Veggies are self-grown and organic. Staff is very attentive and friendly. English-speaking personnel and menu with pictures (all vegan). The food tastes great. Hot-pot, dumplings and a set of traditional Chinese dishes. For people who enjoy fake-meat they also offer burgers which are easily the best vegan ones I have ever had. And the best: It is surprisingly cheap.
Read moreThey also bake their own bread and have a little store where they sell their veggies, tea and other things.

Amazing hot pot and dipping sauces - Edit
We were greeted at the door by the owners, one of whom studied at the University of Victoria in Canada. She explained that she and some friends started this and two other restaurants in order to develop this farm-to-table organic food offering. The restaurant sources some "fake meat" from local producers. The kebabs were delicious, as were the green beans with "bacon". We had a split hotpot. the spicy half was too hot for us, although we are hot chili lovers. Into the hot pot went a variety of fresh vegetables and mushrooms. There is a whole room with ingredients for dipping sauces that allow diners to be as creative as they wish. The food was delicious and the service excellent. However, the menu is a bit confusing, as some items are just ingredients to be added to the hotpot and others are stand-alone.

Good and inexpensive food, amazing staff - Edit
This restaurant was my favorite during a week I spent in Beijing. The food is simple and inexpensive compared to other vegetarian/vegan restaurants I tried, but the meal was tasty, satisfying, and healthy. Two of the staff spoke excellent English and we had a long and interesting conversation. The products for sale are also worth checking out. I will definitely come here again the next time I am in Beijing.
