Dampened Spirits

Knowing full well what wonderfulness this local business is capable of thanks to numerous visits to their flagship store in Dubai Mall, I was hopeful of plenty more sweet satisfaction from this locale.
The first noticeable and obvious difference between the two was the size. Whereas the original is a huge, welcoming shop-cum-cafe, this was essentially a display case perched rather unimpressively on the end of a row of vendors. Given this fact, it will come as no surprise that options weren’t extensive and pickings were at a premium. Nevertheless, feeling compelled to make the most of the experience, I gathered up what I could and set about the task of working through my selections.
Of the array of balls that I got – pistachio, PB&J, coconut, and Ferrero – the latter was by far and away the best of the bunch. The preceding three were rather lacklustre, texturally amiss, and without much depth of flavour.
Thankfully, the main element of my dine-in haul, the apple tart, went a long way in rectifying the situation. With its short, crisp case and toothsome, sweet filling, it did a stand-up job of eradicating the sense that this outing was an ill-conceived venture.
Though the story didn’t end there. In what can only be attributed to a rush of blood to the head, I finally found the nerve to purchase some of the rather expensive spreads that I have long coveted. Convincing myself that they must be worth the hefty ticket price, I somehow saw fit to buy four jars: mango jam, cashew butter, hazelnut butter, and hazelnut butter with cocoa.
Fully intending to save these for the upcoming Christmas Day festivities, curiosity (impatience) got the better of me, and I cracked them all open near enough as soon as I got home. I would earnestly love to be able to tell you that I was bowled over by the lot; however, the only one that proved to be worth the excessive outlay was the cashew butter.
I think it’s probably fair to say that I came out the other side of this experience less enamoured with the brand than when I started. Though not a complete disaster, I don’t think I’ll be making my presence known at this particular spot again anytime soon.

Lots of really creative plant based desserts!

I have only managed to try their Dubai tart with pistachio-kunefe; it was very delicious could do with a bit more pistachio and it was a bit pricey but still worth it! Excited to try more from them!
